I'm a huge fish fan. I've been keeping fish for about 8 years now. My favorite are bettas and guppies. I have 13 bettas and 80+ Japanese Blue Swordtail guppies (message me if interested in these). I can answer most questions about bettas and livebearers but I am by no means an expert. I can also answer questions about other freshwater fish too. Aside my fish, I also have rodents. I have 3 wonderful gerbils. In the past I bred but now they are just pets. I've had gerbil for the past 5 years. I do breed bettas. Mostly marble or dragon HM and HMPK.

  • Economics: Inflation and Income?

If I make $1,000 a month, and I expect 4% inflation rate over the next year, what will my monthly income need to be next year to keep up with inflation? (In order for me to have the same real income?)

  • Aquascaping a divided tank?

I've only been keeping plants for a year now, and I'm not too good with aquascaping. I'm trying to down size the number of tanks I have by selling fish and moving tanks around. I'm keeping only bettas now so I thought I could have a divided tank for males, one for females, a couple spawn tanks, and a few condtioning/hospital tanks. Right now I want to figure out my males tank, which will be a 30 gallon divided in 6. I want to do a moss carpet and have some midground and background plants. As I mentioned above, I'm new to plants, so bare with my stupid questions.

I don't want to spend a ton of money on this tank, so to save money I want to use all the plants I have now. I'm not sure if having different plants in every section of the tank would look sloppy, though. Any opinions? I don't have a ton of plants. Epescially not enough to fill a 30 gallon. What other plants would you recommend? The plants I have are 1 Amazon Sword, 1 Water Wisteria, 1 Argentine Sword, about 15 Java Ferns (some are still small), a plant whos name I always forget, a baseball size portion of Java Moss, and Naja Grass (I don't plan to use this in the tank). I'll be using black Eco-Complete substrate. I'm not sure what lighting I'll have in the tank.

I have java moss, but I keep it in my spawn tanks, and I'd rather experiment with a different kind of moss for the moss carpet. I really like the look of Taiwan moss and similar mosses, but I'm not sure how well it would work as a carpeting or if it will have the look I want. What other mosses would be good as a grassy type carpet? Also, where can I buy the materials to create a moss carpet (the mesh and netting)? What's the best way to create the carpet? I want it to grow fairly fast.

I'm still debating whether to use a CO2 system in the tank. I want my plants to be as healthy as possible but I don't like the look of the DIY ones and don't want to buy one.

That's all the questions I have for now. I may think of more later.

Thank you to anyone that answers!

  • Name for a female betta?

I know this same question is asked daily, but this has been bothering me. She the only nameless betta I have, and I've had her for about 2 months.

She's a Metallic Green Halfmoon Plakat. Out of all my males and females she is by far the most aggressive (Except when breeding). She'll jump out of the water and bite me when I feed her. Today I stuck a Q-tip in her tank and she destroyed it in 2 seconds. So, what should I name this little girl?

    Hiding in the Java Moss.

  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe?

Does anyone know of a good chocolate chip cookie recipe? I found a few on google, but I don't know which one to try. I would prefer it be one that's simple. I'm limited with some of the ingredients.

  • Building my own agility course?

I believe my dog would make a great agility dog. I've looked up prices for agility course kits and they're very expensive. Would it be any cheaper to build a small course myself? If I were to build a course I would make 3 different sized jumps, weave pools, tire jump, and a small pause box. The dog park I go to has a A-frame and a dog walk, and I've already practiced those with my dog. How much would it cost to set up a small practice course for my dog.

  • Why do people pronounce betta this way?

Why do people pronounce betta like bay-tah? Where did this come from, and why do some many people say it this way? Almost everyone I've met pronounces it this way. I've just always wondered where this pronunciation came from.

  • Feeding/Switching to a raw meat diet?

I've been thinking about switching my dogs, or at least my yorkie, to a raw meat diet. I know a raw meat diet is the best things you can feed a dog but I have some questions about it.

    1. How much meat should a yorkie be given a day? What about a German Shorthair? What about a Cocker Spaniel/GSP mix (30lbs)?

    2. How much would it cost a month to feed the yorkie? What about all of the dogs combined?

    3. Where do I buy the meat? <-- That's probably a dumb question.

  • Bugs found in filter cartridge?

I was going to use the filter cartridge from my cycled tank and use it in my new tank, but when I took it out of the filter there were bugs crawling around on it. I'm 99% sure they were daphnia (water fleas). How did they get into my tank? I've never fed any of my fish daphnia before.
