  • Good places to live so you can commute to Herndon, VA?

My husband was offered a job in Herndon, VA... we would prefer to live in a smaller town. More quaint or old fashioned. We can't afford a lot (middle of road I guess) but would like to live in a nice town, good for kids and all that. Smaller towns are great.

Would like communte of 30 minutes (around there or so).... prefer VA southern to going further north or in MA (as we're from FL lol).

    Any suggestions?

  • Several years ago there was a series about modern people living as if in the Stone age...anyone know the name?

I can't remember if it was PBS or BBC... they took modern people and they lived in huts and were restricted to ancient ways of doing things....

Anyone know the name of the program?

  • What do you do with old pictures and frames?

I don't want to be a pack rat but I have a hard time getting rid of old photos in frames or even albums.... sentimental I guess. Also some things I saved from my childhood.... my family is always giving me more things and I don't want to be rude but I just wonder what you do with it all. My husband saves nothing which doesn't seem to be the right answer either... and I don't want to be one of those people in an overflowing house.

Just wondering how other people decide what to save or not and how.... thanks :)

  • I have a sixty year old hand painted scarf from WWII, how do I get out the wrinkles?

My grandfather brought it back from Japan. It's beautiful and is in good shape, I want to frame it but over the years it's gotten VERY wrinkly.... I don't know what to do. Ironing seems bad, steaming seems like a good bet.... any ideas?

  • If my period is irregular how to I calculate fertility dates?

I'm 31 and I recently just went off the pill because my husband and I are trying to have a baby.

My period varies between 24 and 26 days apart. Sometimes when it starts it will start for a day then stop for a day or even two days and then restart.

    I have two questions:

    1. is this normal?

    and

    2. if we are trying to figure out our most fertile days do I count from the first day or the day it actually starts?

    Thanks

  • Anyone have tips on potty training a blind dog that is also a bit deaf?

We adopted a blind dog in March. I think he must have been in a puppy mill because he doesn't know any commands and doesn't seem to be very trained. We're not sure of his age (He was found in a dumpster back in December)... could be anywhere between 4 and 9. He is making messes in the house, he doesn't tell us when he needs to go and only does well when we take him out every three hours or so. But i have to go back to work soon and I'm worried about him. My husband is getting frustrated.... any tips?

  • We have a friend who's husband is kind of a jerk, our husbands don't want to hang out with him...?

she wants him to have male friends but none of the guys want to hang out with him. They would have before even though they weren't crazy about him.

But the new problem is that a few months ago he cheated on his wife ... that doesn't bother them, they can let that go bc it's not their business. But since then he went through a phase where he would call us (her friends) and interrogate us rudely. All but accuse us of lying. Very agressive about it.

My husband (and the others) are angry with him, especially since he never called to apologize or mentioned it.

My question is should I be really honest with her about why we aren't hanging out couples....or just keep making excuses?... we're afraid if we're honest that we'll just get a fake apology from the husband (which won't help) or she'll be angry with us... but it's hard to make excuses when she keeps wanting to do couples nights.

  • Any movies that would be appropriate to show an SAT Prep Class?

I teach SAT Prep and they worked really hard and got ahead and would like to watch a movie. I can't show just anything. It can't be R and can't have nudity.

I have never seen Cheaters and wondered if it would work... any other suggestions about movies that are linked to not cheating... the SAT... test prep or other?

  • I purchased a home about 6 years ago. And I just found out they lied about something in the house, can I do..?

    something?

I was told, and I believe it's in the contract that the piping had all been replaced because they knew the pipes were a particularly bad type (involved in a class action lawsuit and all). We just had a pipe burst and the plumber told us these are the original class action pipes.... what do we do?

  • My biscuits keep coming out really flat and flaky...?

    1 cup all-purpose flour

    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

    1/4 cup cold butter

    1/3 cup milk

    1 teaspoon honey

Those are the ingredients... mix the dry ingredients and than cut the softened butter in... than add the dry ingredients, knead a few times and than cut.... they taste wonderfully but keep coming out flat and very flaky and delicate, you can't cut them in half at all....

someone suggested I remove the cream of tartar but it made no difference... any ideas?

  • Does Feliway really work?

My cat keeps marking and there doesn't seem to be any reason for it anymore, I think originally it was anxiety of a new house and frustration that I would not let him go outside until he knew where home was.

I am considering buying Feliway.... does it work?

does it stain carpet? (our house has light carpets, not by choice)

does it bother or affect dogs? we have two....
