I am a 57 year old former truck driver. I have been a handy man all my life. There is nothing I like better than remodeling. I am on my third house and have remodeled all three. My wife is ready to sell my tools. I do all my own plumbing, electical work and carpentry. I have installed windows, doors, kitchens, bathrooms, rewired two homes, and plumbed one. I ve never had any formal education in construction, just learned by watching others, reading and trial and error. My favorite motto is: "If it ain't broke, I can fix it anyway." My wife calls me Mr. Fixit.
My printer is offline?
I have a HP 6122 Officejet printer that has always worked fine. I am away from home for three weeks at a time because I am a truck driver. When I came home last week the printer would not work. It is on and shows no faults (paper or ink lights flash if there is a problem). When I checked my control panel it shows the printer being off line. Do I need to delete the printer and reinstall it to get it to work?

1 AnswerMarketing & Sales1 decade agoWill an under the sink vent work with a garbage disposal?
I own a house with a small kitchen. We have a disposal that is un-vented. When we run the disposal water always cones up in the second sink. I know this is because there is no direct vent to the outside. Putting one in is impossible because the building is stone and the entire wall behind the sink is glass so the roof is not possible either. My question to an experience plumber is this. Will a under the sink vent work to alleviate back wash into the second sink? I have installed them before but never where there was a disposal. I am a so nothing is too hard for me to do. Any ideas?

15 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoLaying 16" x 16" Ceramic Tiles in my kitchen?
I am a handyman by nature. I do all my own plumbing, electrical work, carpentry and painting. One thing I have never done is lay a ceramic tile floor.
I own a 50+ year old house with a small kitchen, about 200 sq ft. The floor was originally white ceramic tile that we did not like. Several were broken. I removed them only to find that the person who put them down, placed them directly on top of the original hard wood floor. Many of the hardwood boards were so rotton I could push a screwdriver right through with little effort. I removed the hardwood floor only to find that the toung & groove floor is all dried out, cracked, split and weak.
I plan to replace the subfloor with 3/4 or 5/8 plywood, then place a layer of 1/2 hardboard (already purchased) then the tile. Since I hace never done this before (brave guy I am) I have some questions.
Do I need to put a layer of cement between the plywood and hardboard and screw it to the studs? If so what size trowel notch is needed? Advice
10 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoI am building a deck for as friend. What is the proper pitch so the rain runs away from the house.?
I will be building a deck that will be 12 x 49. The 49 ft side runs parralell to the house. He wants a closed floor made of pressure treated 2x6's. I want to pictch the deck enough to let the water run away from the house, but not enough to make it seem that you are walking up hill. I live in Missouri and we get a lot of rain. I was thinking of 1" in 10'. Does this sound about right?
8 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoDoes any one know something about rear projection Televisions?
I have a Hitachi 54" rear projection TV. When we turn it on we get a screen full of horizontal lines. This happens after the TV has been off for a while and it is cool. The TV is over 11 years old and always has given us great service. After the TV has been on for a while most of the lines disappear. Can this be repaired? I would not want to spend a lot of $$$ on a 11 year old TV? Comments, please no stupid answers.
4 AnswersTVs1 decade agoI have some trim boards that have not been painted in years. If I scrape off the dry rot can I paint it?
This home was built in 1951. Believe it or not the trim boards are all full size 2" lumber. The facia boards are starting to dry rot. Can I scrape off the dry rot and put on a good primer and top coat and stop the rot from spreading. It is only rotting of the bottom outside edge. Is there a product I can use to retard the rotting. Please no silly answers
5 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoKitchen Cabinets?
I have a 50+ year old house. In the kitchen I have the original cabinets on the wall, that are solid oak. The cabinets are showing their age. Some of the joints are seperating. I am a handiman by choice. My question is this, has anyone ever sucsessfully removed wall cabinets, reglued the joints, refinised (we're thinking a painted enamel surface) and rehung them. Please no smart butt answers. I already know I can have them refaced or replaced.
8 AnswersDecorating & Remodeling1 decade agoDoes anyone have any Marketing Advice?
I own a small cash register and POS system business. I've tried the news paper, the radio, yellow pages and want ads. I'm trying to grow the business. I've owned other businesses, but this is the first one that really doesn't service the general public. In the mid-western city I'm in I have one large competer who has high priced POS systems. On the other side of the spectrum I have to compete with Sam's Club and Staples.
My company sells, programs and services cash registers and POS Systems, from 149.00 to 2600.00. Lately sales have bottomed out, and we are in trouble.
Can anyone give some advice or tell me where I can get some
9 AnswersSearch Engine Optimization1 decade agoDoes anyone know how to clean a crocheted table cloth.?
I believe it is cotton. It was made by my mother 26 years ago and is not replaceable. I hate to ruin it. The reason that we never cleaned it before was because my wife kept it in a cedar chest inside a storage container. We have been using it lately just for decorations and now it looks soiled.
9 AnswersCleaning & Laundry1 decade agoI am putting down a laminated floor in my kitchen?
I am putting down a laminated floor in my kitchen.
Does the floor have to be perfectly flat and smooth? The floor there now was covered by ceramic tile and was put down incorrectly. Therer is a lot of the cement on the floor and I have had to patch several places with plywood to remove rotton boards.
