  • Why won't my laptop start after I installed more RAM?

First, I need to admit that I'm far from a computer expert and have been trying to learn how to service and maintain my computer without professional help. My laptop came with 4 gb of RAM. I ran a scan on Crucial and it indicated that I could upgrade to 8 gb and the recommended Crucial RAM kit. I ordered a kit of 2 chips of 4 gb each from Crucial. I just installed it and now my laptop won't start - I just got some beeps. I'm sure I installed the RAM correctly. Ispecifically noted the positions of the RAM chips when I removed them by pushing the wire clips aside. I carefully installed the new RAM in the same positions as the old RAM and made sure the clips were in place.

The only thing I can think of that may have caused a problem is that I didn't remove the battery before I went through the procedure and as I was inserting the RAM there was a little spark. I also noticed that after sinceI replaced the cover and the screw, the edges of the cover are not flush with the bottom of the computer.

Is there a way to resuscitate my computer? If so, please give me step by step instructions. Thanks in advance.

  • Should I remove quarantined items from SuperAntiSpyware?

FIrst of all, why does SuperAntiSpyware (i'll refer to it as SAS) remove some malware and put others in quarantine? SAS shows 7 items in quarantine and doesn't identify them. There is an option to "Remove All"? Should I remove them or leave them alone? Is seems odd that SAS would require me to take an extra step to remove them rather than just remove them along with the other items it removes. Thanks for any responses.

  • What is wireless WAN adaptor?

I use my HP laptop exclusively on a wireless connection. Every morning when I start it up, I get a message from HP Assistant that my wireless LAN is working properly, but my wireless WAN is turned off. Since my laptop is working just fine with the settings as they are, I have left them alone. Can you tell me what these settings are for (both LAN and WAN) and whether I should turn WAN on? How will th any changes affect my wireless connection? Thaks in advance.

  • Do lots of bookmarks take up space on my android phone?

I keep getting notifications that I have low space on my android phone. For several months when my computer crashed, I used my phone like a computer and I bookmarked a lot of websites. I intend to bookmark the sites on my laptop and delete them from my phone when I get a chance, but there are so any that I will have to do that over weeks or even months. My phone only has 2 gb of internal memory. I upgraded to a 16 gb micro sd card. I transfer every app to my sd card when possible, but apparently some of them still take up some of the internal memory. Until then, I just need to know if many bookmarks could be the reason I keep getting these notification. Thanks.

  • Is it ok to use an old fish tank as an aquarium?

A friend of mine bought a used boat and the people who previously owned it left a lot of stuff behind on it. One item was a fish tank that looks like it hasn't been used for awhile, which my friend gave to me. It's rectangular and the dimensions are 20" x "10 x 12 1/2" tall, so it should hold about 10 gallons. I'm not sure what it's made of - it seems like it could be plexiglass. I've always wanted an aquarium and thought this would be good for a starter aquarium, but if previous fish that lived in it died of some disease, maybe it would be passed onto new fish. If there's any risk of that, I would prefer to use it as a reptile habitat for a couple of lizards or turtles or even as just a plant terrarium.

Walmart carries an aquarium kit that includes " size 10 glass aquarium, aqua-tech 5-15 power filter with bio-fiber biological filtration and EZ-change #1 filter cartridge, full incandescent light hood (complete with bulbs), water conditioner sample, tetra fish food samples, easy set-up instructions and tetracare support information; ideal for goldfish and other coldwater fish" for $37.67. That seems like a really good deal but it's out of stock right now, probably due to seasonal demand. I'm sure it would cost me a lot more to buy all those items individually.

If you have experience with aquariums, please let me know what you think. What would you do in this situation? What is the best way to thoroughly clean the aquarium without using harsh cleaners that could poison fish or reptiles or plants? Thanks in advance.

  • Is there a way to fix this electrical conflict?

We have a houseboat with electricity that comes from the dock and it's only 110v. We have DirecTv and there is some mild but noticeable static on the TV. It gets much worse when I plug in my laptop (the battery doesn't hold a charge for very long). We think some amatuer builder must have built this houseboat in his backyard due to the low level of construction techniques that were used. There are minimal electrical outlets. We have electrical cords draped on hooks to run on top of doors and windows. We don't want to put much money into this boat as we hope to get rid of it in the next couple of years. Is there any way to fix the problem with the computer causing static on the TV? Thanks.

  • How can I make my dressing less oily?

I am a beginner at making dressing. I sauteed the onions, garlic and celery in olive oil (we use olive oil exclusively because it's healthy). Several times the oil almost disappeared from the skillet and the ingredients were in imminent danger of burning so I had to add more oil. When I got to the point of adding the raisins, etc., there was hardly any oil left in the pan - not even enough to pour it off. I added the bread and some other ingredients When we ate some of the dressing later, it became apparent that there was jus way too much oil. Is there a better way to prepare the ingredients to avoid this issue the next time I make it? Thanks.

  • Do you have to file a Fictitious Business Name Statement for a website that making you money?

I want to set up a website and sell advertising on it (not Adsense). My plan is to contact adverstisers directly and sell ad space. Does Los Angeles County require a Fictitious Business Name in this situation? All government entities want as much money as they can get so it seems they would find some twisted rationale to force people to file it. Thanks.

  • Is there a way to allow cookies on one website only?

I need to buy something on Ebay and Ebay is telling me that my computer is not allowing cookies. That seems strange because I run Malwarebytes at least every other day and it comes up with tons of tracking cookies (which I remove). I do lots of web surfing and have done so for the last year and a half since I got this computer and this is the first time a website has notified me that my computer is not allowing cookies.

I didn't do anything to change any setting to prevent a website from using cookies on my computer so is it possible a security program I installed, such as free versions of Avast, Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot or WinPatrol changed a setting? Yes, I know I have too many security programs installed on my computer but I've had computer issues with malware in the past and want to do everything I can to protect it. I haven't experienced any problems yet as a result of all the programs and I've had them all for about a month.

    Here are my questions:

    1. How could a setting have been changed to prevent websites from using cookies on my computer?

    2. Is there a procedure that will enable me to allow cookies on just one website? Is so, what are the steps I need to take?

    Thanks in advance.

  • What is the correct charger for my laptop?

The charger for my HP Pavilion dv5 burned out yesterday. It is a 65 watt charger that came with the laptop. A friend told me I should not buy a charger with either more or less watts because that will cause problems. Is that true? If not, is there any advantage to buying a charger with higher watts? Thanks.

  • Are dogs' bodies capable of making use of nutrients from vegetables and fruits?

We have an Alaskan malamute who is a food junky - she eats just about anything. She really likes steamed carrots and broccoli. She'll also eat fruits such as apples. These foods don't cause her any stomach upsets. I'm just wondering whether her body can actually utilize any of the nutrients in these foods. If wolves don't eat any kind of fruits and vegetables in the wild, then their bodies likely did not evolve to eat vegetables and fruits. If that is true, it would seem that these foods just go through our dog's body without contributing to her health. We'll probably continue to feed them to her because over time she has put on weight so we had to feed her a lot less of her dry dog food so I think she gets really hungry. Our theory is that the vegetables and fruits will help to satisfy her hunger yet not put on weight. Any helpful responses will be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Could any of these programs be causing a conflict?

I downloaded the free versions of the following programs onto my computer: Avast!, AntiMalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybots, Spywareblaster, CCleaner, WinPatrol, and Puran Unilities. Could any one of them or a combination cause a conflict on my computer? When I go to websitse on IE, Chrome or FIrefox, it takes 10-15 seconds for them to open but that is the reason I downloaded all the programs in the first place, the programs aren't causing that problem. The programs have found some PUPs and a ton of tracking cookies which I've removed, but that hasn't sped up my computer. I'm thinking the problem is my wireless connection. Anyway, could these programs be causing a conflict? Thanks.

  • Is it really that dangerous to use Internet Explorer?

People keep saying you get viruses when you use IE, but it's my favorite. When I use it, my Avast antivirus gives me a notice if I'm about to go on a dangerous website. Yahoo has hijacked my Chrome and Firefox and I haven't yet figured out how to get rid of it, but even when I do I really want to continue using IE - I just like it better. What is the risk?

  • How can I remove a program when I can't find it?

A year and half ago I thought I downloaded a program called Sticky Notes to my computer. I forgot about it and never used it. A few days ago, I came across it and tried to open it but apparently I had not actually downloaded it because it went through some process where I had to run it. After using Sticky Notes I decided I don't like it so I looked for other similar programs. I downloaded Stickies but I couldn't open it so I uninstalled it and installed PNotes which I also cannot open.

I think Sticky Notes is preventing me from opening other similar programs and I want to uninstall it, but I can't find it in "Uninstall Programs." It comes up when I go to "Start" and do a search, but there is no "Uninstall" option. If I right click, there is a long list of choices, including "Delete" and "Cut" but I am concerned that if I chose either one of those the program won't actually be uninstalled and completely removed from my computer. Yahoo has hijacked my computer since I opened Sticky Notes and I suspect that Sticky Notes did that. Is it possible that Sticky Notes was actually on my computer as a zip file? Is there a different method to uninstall programs that were opened from zip files? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

  • Is it illegal to download music from YouTube?

Is it legal to convert music from YouTube to MP3 format then download it to iTunes? The music companies are always trying to prevent free downloading so it seems ridiculous that they would allow downloading from YouTube. Thanks.

  • Is there a reason not to enable Javascript?

I'm running across a lot of sites that want Javascript enabled. I checked out how to enable it and the instructions were to "Click the Security tab, and then drag the slider to High." That indicates to me that if you enable Javascript you are putting your computer at risk. I'm happy with my security setting and don't want to change it. I was thinking about enabling Javascript in all three browsers that I use: IE, Chrome and FIrefox. Is this a bad idea. Should I just live with the website notificaions to enable it? Thanks.

  • Is there a free comptuer program for this purpose?

Over the time I've had my laptop, I have downloaded programs and then later uninstalled some of them. I understand that when you uninstall programs, bits and pieces are left behind. Is there a free program that will scan my computer for the bits and pieces and remove them? Thanks for any responses.

  • Why is one of my hands colder than the other?

When the weather is cold, I always seem to be colder than other people around me. I remember once being at a relative's house for Cristmas and the windows and sliding glass doors leading to the backyard were kept open (this is in Southern California). I was freezing and miserable, but everyone else seemed to be just fine. I'm puzzled by the fact that my right hand is always noticeably colder than the left when the weather is cold (I'm right-handed in case that's relevant). The temperature here right now is 64 degrees Fahrenheit, which I consider to be very cold - I'm bundled up with several layers of clothing and have a couple blankets over me but I still feel cold.

I was diagnosed at age 10 with mild anemia and as an adult two doctors years aprt told me I had mild anemia, but I never took medication or changed my diet to improve the condition so I assume I still have it. I really don't feel tired or have a lack of energy usually associated with anemia so I'm sure my anemia is very mild if I still have it. The possible mild anemia doesn't explain the difference in temperature between my hands. Neither hand has ever had an injury that would account for it. Does anyone have any possible explanation? Thanks.

  • Where can you go to get paid to donate your blood or blood plasma?

I've been out of work for awhile and need to find legitimate ways to earn money. I've done a lot of computer searches and found a lot of useless ideas (filling out online surveys, telemarketing, online juror) , but one of the ideas that keep coming up is to donate blood or blood plasma and I thought I should at least check it out before rejecting it.

Is it true that you are paid more for blood plasma than for blood? Is donating blood plasma a more invasive, painful procedure? I've never donated blood or blood plasma because I'm very squeamish and nearly fainted once when a lady was telling me about the procedure she went through when she donated blood. I think I can overcome my squeamishness if I concentrate on the fact that I'll be getting some much needed money for it. When you get money for blood or blood plasma donations, is it considered income that is taxed?

Where in Los Angeles can you go to donate blood or blood plasma and get paid for it? How much do you get paid per donation? I saw something on the internet where someone claimed that your first donation pays $30 and every time you make a subsequent donation you're paid $50. I find it hard to believe that the pay is that high. Is it true that you are allowed to donate only twice in a seven day period? I'm sorry to ask so many questions, but if you know the answer to just one or two of these questios, that would be great. By the way, I'm sorry if this question is in the wrong category but I couldn't find a category pertaining to making money. Thanks for any responses.
