  • Computer repair information software?

I repair computers on the side, and I am looking for a software to keep track of a computer's specs, the repairs that were done on it, and the customer's information. I would like it to be searchable by barcode, because I print barcodes on small address labels and place it on the devices brought in to easily keep track of everything. I have been using Inflow Inventory but its not.. in-depth enough for what I use and I can't see spending $300 on it. Any suggestions? I checked google, and apparently no technicians have ever run into this. My tablet runs Windows 8, and I do not always have an active internet connection, so it will have to either be an app or a software. I was looking into Microsoft Access templates, and haven't really found what I am looking for, and it seems like a lot of work to create one. Any suggestions?

  • Installing aftermarket stereo 2003 eclipse?

Just bought a 2003 mitsubishi eclipse, it had an aftermarket alpine stereo older than I am, and it was a piece of crap. I pulled it out, and tried to match up the mess of wires. I'm installing a pioneer deh-p80mp, hooked the 2 red wires up to the red wire on the stock adapter, the yellow wire to the yellow on the stock adapter, the black (ground) is disconnected because there is no ground on the stock adapter. The power antenna wire is connected to the stock adapter (for the built in stock amplifier). It worked fine from the start, I pulled it all apart to hook up the amplifier for the subs, I tapped the remote wire for the amplifier into the 2 power antenna wires, making 3 wires, and hooked the 2 RCA wires from the stereo to the amp. After turning the car on, and even starting it, the stereo will not turn on, as if there's no power. I checked all the wires, including the reds, yellow, and power antenna and all the fuses in the fuse panel and the stereo's wiring harnace, everything is hooked up properly, I don't know what the hell is wrong with it. The stereo works, so it's gotta be a wiring problem. What am I doing wrong?

  • Dell poweredge 2600 trips gfci outlet?

Just got a dell poweredge 2600 server (used) and the first time i hooked it up, it all started up fine, and after unplugging it to shut it off, it trips the gfci outlet about 3 seconds after plugging it back in. A bright red light also comes on during that 3 seconds on the back of the server. Is there a problem with the server or is it just because of the outlets in that room?

  • Install Windows XP on a desktop *LEGALLY*?

I have a stack of about 20 desktop computers that all need Windows XP installed. Here's the thing. You can buy a copy of Windows XP, but it'll only activate on 3 computers, correct? and the copy of windows xp costs around $100. The problem is, the computer is only worth about $40-50 on ebay (plus the cost of shipping). Is there any way I can get a copy of windows at a lower price, and have it pass WGA activate correctly? Or can I use the product key attached to the side of the computer?

  • Does the kenwood KVT-516 require an amp?

  • How does the DirecTV receiver work?

Alright, I have some questions on how the whole satellite tv thing works through directv. When you sign up with them, they provide a receiver, the dish, and the cables and stuff. In the receiver is a.. smart card? right? What determines if your paying for your satellite TV package? Is it based on the actual satellite or the card inside the receiver? If you were to change packages, would they send you a new card, decrypting the new channels you are purchasing?

  • oreck air purifier scent cartriges?

I have an oreck professional air purifier, and it has a tray on the side where you can put these scent cartriges. What type of material are these made of? And how long do they last before the scent fades out? I have an idea but i need to know the basic properties of these and at $10+ per pack and old-people scent options, i see them as a waste of money. Please be serious with answers. Thanks.

  • oreck airpr air purifier collector cell keeps sparking?

Ok, so i have an oreck xl professional air purifier and every 2-3 days it will start sparking to the point where the "check collector cell" light starts flashing. Its getting to the point where it wakes me up in the middle of the night with its stupid sparking sounds. I then take out the collector cell, wash it, and dry it off. Once it has dried, i put it back into place and turn on the air purifier. Once its turned on, it will either immediately flash the "check collector cell" light, or itll sit there and spark, then after about 10 seconds itll flash the "check collector cell" light. On rare occasions, itll work perfectly for about 3 days like i mentioned before. If its dark in the room, i can see where its sparking, usually on the right side along the whole plastic column of the collector cell. Does oreck have a lifetime warranty on the collector cell? Is there some way of getting it to work again? Please be serious with your answers. Thanks.

  • Selling electronics and computers on ebay?

How do I go about doing this? I have an ebay account, and I am working on finishing up my paypal account. I made a "sample" listing (without publishing it to ebay) just to see what options I would have. For the most part, I have it figured out. What would be the easiest way to ship items such as DVD players, smaller electronics like that, and computers? And how do I package them and send them off without them getting damaged during shipping? Especially computers and laptops, considering they are very delicate. Thanks.

  • Acronis TrueImage backup software for technician?

I get a lot of computers in which all require a reinstallation of windows and some other software I preload on them. I tried using Acronis TrueImage to back up the computer after finishing it, then restoring the image to several other computers. The problem is that when I set up windows on the "master" computer, it automatically installs the drivers for that computer, then causes problems on other computers unless its the same brand and model. Is there any way around this? or will I have to go back to installing windows and all software on each computer? because it's very time consuming. And please be serious with your answer. Thanks!

  • Sony KDF-E42A10 Projection TV problem, lamp?

I just got a sony 42" projection tv. When I turn it on, the LED light on the front flashes green for about a minute, then turns red, and blinks continuously at a slower rate. I did some research, and was able to determine that it could be the bulb. I am the second owner, and do not have any previous information as to what could have happened with it. I got it as is, not working of course, but am hoping to get it fixed. I removed the lamp as soon as I determined that it could be bad, and it has some dust on it, so I'm assuming its the original one. The TV is about 6 years old, released in January, 2006. Any idea what the problem could be? I don't want to purchase a lamp until I know that's the problem. I looked into it, and can buy one for about $35 on amazon. Thanks. And please be serious with your answers.

  • Computer trade-in form?

I repair computers as a side job, and want to offer a trade-in service, either as credit toward a computer I have for sale, or just as a way for people to donate their old computer. What would I need to include when making a trade-in form, just so I have a signed piece of paper saying they gave me their old computer?

  • Replacing capacitors in flat-panel TVs?

Im starting to get into fixing flat-panel TVs. I actually have a few questions. I have 4 of them which have power supply issues due to capacitor failures. My first question is how do I know which capacitors to replace? I know if they are bulging or leaking, they should be replaced, but what do I do when they all look okay? My second question is how do I kill the capacitor before removing it? There is one 400V capacitor in a visio plasma tv I'm currently working on, and i crossed the prongs on it several times to drain its power, and it still sparks every time I tap it with a screwdriver. Is there some other way of killing these? I already found out the hard way with a 19" lcd tv that these capacitors are very powerful. I'd rather not find out with this 400V one. My 3rd question is where can I purchase these capacitors at a cheap price? I pulled a few of them out of the visio I'm working on, probably going to check radio shack tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I checked ebay, and they sell a kit for this specific board which was in the visio, and its a capacitor replacement kit, and its $12. Does this sound right, or can I do better? And is there anything else I should know? I'm assuming I'm on the right track by replacing the capacitors in the visio, as some of them were bulging and starting to leak. The TV was completely dead when I got it. I plugged it in and nothing happened. No sign of power whatsoever, no noises or anything. The power cord is good.. The only other thing I can think of is the fuses on the power board, which would have to be soldered in as well, and they are covered with this white paint from the manufacturer, so I have no way of seeing if the fuse is blown or not.

I am looking for a serious answer from someone with experience. Thanks.

  • My XBOX 360 won't turn on?

My xbox 360, the white 2008 model, will not turn on. It's plugged in, and the light on the power supply is orange. I also checked all the usb ports, the plastic is broken on one of them, but the 4 brass pins are not touching anywhere. What could be the problem? people keep saying it could be RROD but that's never happened to me so I don't see how its possible. Any ideas? other than get a new one? Thanks. And please be serious with your answer.
