5 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoHow do I find the partial fraction decomposition of this?
How do I find the partial fraction decomposition of (-4x+31)/(x^2-10x+42) ?
Since the denominator can't be factored, I tried to complete the square, which left me with (-4x+31)/(x^2-10x+25-25+42) = (-4x+31)/[(x-5)(x-5)+17]. I don't have any idea what I should do with the +17 now though, or if I even started this correctly. Any ideas?

I can't really get to the dentist for another 4 weeks, so does anyone have an idea of what's happening and what I can do about it?
