Do I need a 1.1 2.0 or 3.0 USB port?
I'm looking into buying a UBS hub and I have seen some with 3.0 ports while the less expensive ones are marked as compatible with devices that require 1.1 and 2.0 ports, now I'm fairly certain that at least some of the USB ports on my computer are 3.0 (I remember seeing it in the specifications when I bought the computer and wondering then if that was something I really needed, until then I hadn't realized that there were different types of USB ports) so what I want to know is...
1. How likely it is that I'll run into problems if I buy one of the cheaper hubs that only have 2.0 ports
2. What sorts of thing would require a 3.0 port &
3. If I shell out for a hub with 3.0 ports and use an extension cable is there anything I should watch out for there.
Also unless I can find a hub with a fairly long cord I'll have-to use an extension cable with any hub that I get and I'm typically going to be using it for things such as a web-cam, thumb-drives, my phone, and maybe my wireless gaming headset when it needs to be charged, so the web-cam is probably the big thing and it's what I'm buying the hub/extension cable for.
1 AnswerAdd-ons3 years agoIf I clean my teansitions glasses with ammonia free windex will it damage them.?
I ve looked at several sights that say not to use windex to clean your glasses but first of all some of them say that it s because the ammonia will damage them, and second of all they all they all say not to use things like your shirt or a tissue to clean your glasses either, I m not interested in babying my glasses like that, I m not asking if I might start to notice some negative effects in a few years or something, I figure I ll probably need new glasses in a few years anyway because my prescription will chage, my question is will ammonia free windex do serious immediate damage to my glasses.
Also incase it matters my glasses aside from having transitions lenses are also scratch resistant and glare resistant.
2 AnswersOptical4 years agoQuickest way to transfer Pokemon from Pokemon Platinum?
I have a copy of Pokemon platinum that I'm afraid is soon going to stop working completely, I do not have black, white, black 2 or white 2 but from what I gather they are the only way to get my pokemon off of platinum and you have-to finish the game in order to do so, so my question is which is shorter version 1 or version 2 or is there another, faster way to get my pokemon off of platinum?
1 AnswerOther - Games & Recreation4 years agoCan volunteering at an animal shelter open the door for paid careers such as becoming a dog trainer?
It's not really an option for me right now because I have no transportation but a month or two ago I started thinking about volunteering at an animal shelter, originally the idea was just, I like animals, I'm good with animals, and I have nothing to do with my time so why not volunteer at an animal shelter if I can find a way to get there, but lately I've been thinking that if volunteering could open the door to eventually getting a paying job then it might just be what I need in order to finally get my life moving so my questions are.
A: Is this a realistic idea?
B: If so how long would it be before I've acquired enough experience that I should start looking for a paid job?
C: How would I go about making the transition, would I need to apply someplace else or can a volunteer get promoted to a paid position.
D: What are some positions that I would be qualified for?
E: Any other suggestions?
2 AnswersDogs8 years agohow to use the if function on Excel?
My problem is that when you use the rounddown function it doesn't really round down it rounds to the number closest to zero so if you're working with negatives and you want it to round to the number with the least value you have to tell the computer to round up so what I want to know is how I can use the if function to tell the computer to round down if the answer is less than zero or round up if the answer is greater than zero.
If it help this is what I'm using now =ROUNDDOWN((A1-10)*0.5,0) or =ROUNDUP((A1-10)*0.5,0)
so if it would work better to tell the computer to round down if A1 is less than 10 or round up if A1 is greater than 10 that would work too.

3 AnswersHomework Help9 years agoBroken headphone jack on an acer aspire, windows 7?
Well I was sleeping my mom was on our laptop using the headphones and one of our cats jerked the cord, now the headphones will only work if you hold the cord just right and even then only one ear works and the built in speakers aren't working at all, what it seems like to me is that something on one side of the inside of the jack got crushed and now aside from that obviously not working I suspect that it's telling the computer that the headphones are still plugged in even when they're not, I've already done a little research and found the possibility of getting a USB headphone adapter, so what I want to know is (1) is there a way for me to disable the headphone jack so that hopefully the built in speakers will work, (2) will the USB headphone adapter work for my particular problem and (3) will there be any conflict between answers 1 and 2.
Additional Details
First just to clarify everything sound related (in fact everything in general) was working just fine until the cats jerked the cord and broke the headphone jack, this is a fairly new computer and this is the first thing to go wrong with it.
Also I tried GreyHawk's instructions on how the set the speakers to default, speakers was the only option and it seemed to already be set to default. I thought the fact that the headphones didn't show up there might mean I was wrong about why the speakers aren't working, so I plugged in the headphones and held them just right so that the one ear was working and looked again as I was listening to music coming from one ear of the headphone and there was still only the one device and it was labeled speakers but it indicated that that was the device that was being used.

My sister's taking care of her boyfriend's guinea pig and she's noticed that it's claws are getting "all long and scraggly" and we were wondering if
(a) it's ok to clip a guinea pig's claws at all and
(b) if so is there anything we need to know to watch out for.
8 AnswersRodents1 decade agoI need a band name for a story?
It should be something to do with birds, it's 5.5 girls and one afterthought boy, it doesn't really matter all that much I don't plan on ever getting the story published (I doubt it will ever even get finished) but I've been working on it for years and I just can't find anything I really like, I've resorted to using "Phoenixes Under Fire" but for one thing it seems like I got that from a movie or something though I can't remember and I haven't been able to find it any ware and even though it's just for me I don't want anything that's a real band or in someone else's story.
3 AnswersOther - Entertainment1 decade agowhy do people always think hamster only live two years?
Ok I'll admit this isn't exactly meant to be a question, so I'll just make my point, I've had hamsters my hole life and I've had very few that have made it threw the first two week and not lived at least four year and the oldest hamster I had was five when he died, and the few that died between two weeks and four years had obvious illnesses, I was just reading some of the other questions and answers and felt I needed to say that but it didn't seem right with the questions themselves, sorry if this is some sort of mis-use of the board/site whatever you call this thing.
12 AnswersRodents1 decade agoI have a older cat playing to rough with the new kitten what do I do?
The older cat is not that much older and he's just trying to play but he's so much bigger then the kitten I feel like when they start playing I have-to watch them every second, I don't want to discourage them from playing together until the new kitten this cat was sort-of an outcast among the others (I now have six) and the other cats haven't really accepted the kitten either. Another problem with it is the older cat is a little skittish and usually runs when I try to separate them, dose anyone have any ideas on how I can get them to play nice.
