Credulity is not a virtue.
How do Catholics feel about their church invalidating baptisms due to a trivial grammatical choice?
Specifically, the question was whether baptisms conferred with the formula, “We baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” rather than the traditional, “I baptize you…”
The church is insisting that all baptisms done with a formula other than a strict following of the Church’s liturgical books are invalid.

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 months agoDoesn't the story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5 show that God frowns upon lying about real estate holdings?
If that's enough for church officials to have been sticking dead on the spot, why do some people today find it acceptable for their political leaders?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 months agoIs the bible sending mixed messages about weapon ownership?
Some pro-gun people I know frequently point to the following verse.
Luke 22:36 ► He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
However, when the sword Jesus explicitly instructed his disciples to buy was used, he instead says:
Matthew 26:52 ► "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

Five centuries? Two millennia? What's the cutoff? At what point can you no longer say 'soon' is a correct adverb?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality3 years agoDo you think it is possible to choose what you believe?
If you see me set two coins on a table, can you choose to believe I set only one and sincerely believe that was the case? Or, can you merely lie, saying I set only one, but you'd still believe it was two? Do you choose to believe something, or is it a passive result of your observations?
12 AnswersReligion & Spirituality3 years agoWhy would allowing priests to marry help the situation if there wasn't a rash of priests having consenting age-appropriate relationships?
I've heard the argument that priests should be allowed to marry, but I don't fully understand it. It isn't as if raping children at any time was more acceptable than finding a consenting adult relationship, or even getting a hooker. If they were going to break rules, why didn't they break them in that way? Why are we to expect allowing marriage would alleviate a problem if they were never tempted by consenting adult relationships in the first place?

16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality3 years agoWhy do Christians say the lion shall lay down with the lamb?
I've seen a number of Christians claim this as prophecy, claiming to to be scripture. But, the closest verse I can find is Isaiah 11:6, saying the wolf will live with the lamb, and the lion shall eat hay. Does a verse saying lion and lamb shall lay also exist elsewhere? If not, how did this notion spread through Christianity?
