Hi. I'm Joe/Tom. I'm not going to fill this section with insane ramblings of odd facts you'd never find out about me otherwise, a stupid bio that leaves 99.9% of my life out, pictures of people who mean something to me, or a little emo "feel sorry for me" rant about how my life sucks. I simply am. Cliche and annoying is a point of perspective, so if you think this is either, I'm sorry. If you can't analyze my personality from what I've given you, there's two things to be said; the first of which being that your analytical skills suck. I've given you a lot to run on. And second, message me. We'll talk.
Computer doing sporadic hard-shutdown?
After turning on my desktop computer, anywhere from 15-45 minutes later, it does a hard shut-down on itself. There's no bizarre noise before it shuts off, and it still shuts off in safemode, while offline, or even if you try to start the computer back up too soon after it shuts down.
Personally, I think it's a power source issue. What do you think?
5 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoSoda/Beer specialty stores on the West Coast?
Hey, looking for a soda/beer specialty store like Galco's Soda (http://www.sodapopstop.com/) on the West Coast. A store with hundreds of different specialty and novelty drinks.
Where might I find such a magical place?
(Note: Yeah, I know, Galco's is in LA, and LA is on the west coast... But I'd like to not go to LA if possible. Thank you.)

3. Frasier
4. The Office (British and American)
5. Chuck
6. 24
7. House

9. The Simpsons
10. Wings
Also, I hate reality TV and most HBO shows. I started watching the Sopranos, but it never caught with me.
4 AnswersComedy1 decade agoPS3 with HDMI issues?
My anger knows no limits now that my PS3 has arrived.
I have an HDMI cable hooked up. It's a half-year-old Monster HDMI cable running from the brand new PS3 to a half-year-old Onkyo 7.1 surround sound system.
The video? Clear, pretty, sharp. The audio? Wouldn't know, it's NOT THERE.
I have tried every God damn thing I can think of to get this audio to work. I've tried multiple different codec combination, different output options, and different cables. I even ran an optical cable to it, and it worked. But I DON'T WANT 5.1 SOUND. I have 7.1 and I want to actually HEAR 7.1
Can anyone tell me what the hell is this thing's problem?

3 AnswersPlayStation1 decade agoQuestions regarding the PS3?
Alright, a few questions.
1. I have a 720p 50" LCD TV. It's a few years old, and I'm not looking to upgrade, so let's not mess around with that. I'm obviously not going to get the full effect of 1080p video... I have acknowledged this and moved onward. However, would the difference from standard DVD to BluRay be substantial on even a 720p display?
2. The PS3 has 7.1 surround sound. This is awesome. I have a 7.1 setup that's never been properly used because we've never had a BluRay player, or anything that handles 7.1 before. Question 2, part 1: How AWESOME is that going to sound while playing games and movies? Question 2, part 2: To get the full audio effect, should I use the digital-optical sound output, or the HDMI sound output?
3. The PS3 has the capability of downloading and streaming movies. Does this include BluRay movies? If this is a stupid question, is the quality degraded in any way by downloading them instead of having the DVD? Also, how much is the movie service? Is it a monthly charge, or just a flat charge per movie?
I already own an Xbox360, so don't get all up in my face about that.
If there's any other useful info you can or want to throw in, please do. The more the merrier.

2 AnswersPlayStation1 decade agoHP Pavillion dv6000 won't turn on/won't charge?
I have an HP Pavillion dv6000 that I purchased in May of 2007. It's been riddled with problems, but nothing that I couldn't fix.
Recently, though, it seems to have bit the dust.
My laptop won't turn on or charge. I plug it in, and the blue LED on the side doesn't light up. The power jack and the pin all seem fine.
I'm about ready to drop kick this damn thing through the window. To anyone considering buying an HP product, I advise against it. Customer service is rude, and they won't even talk to you if you don't have a warranty. I know this because I've had to call them over twenty times for problems that I did not cause. This computer was used for writing and watching DvDs. Not much else. How it managed to accumulate so many problems is beyond me.
Thank you for your help.
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoAudio receivers for optimal gaming?
I've got a job, and my old sound receiver from 2003 is looking a bit disheveled and shabby. I'm looking to upgrade the receiver (and receiver only, the speakers are fine) to something newer that is optimal for gaming; specifically, an Xbox360.
Looking to spend up to $250 on a receiver, but the less expensive, the better.
Thank you.
2 AnswersHome Theater1 decade agoHors D'ourves and appetizers?
I'm throwing a massive two-night party in November. It's going to burn a big hole in my pocket, and I'm probably going to be hung over for a week.
But the first night is a little more up-scale. I, being co-hosts with my best friends, are serving some Hors D'ourves and appetizers with some wine and mixed drinks.
My question would be, what should I serve as the appetizers? My friend and I are the only males at the party, so we're trying to semi-impress the large population of opposite gender. I'll be serving:
Trisket with mozzarella, tomato, olive oil, and a garnish of fresh basil.
Turkey/Tomato/oregano sandwich rolls.
Everything else is on the fence. Any suggestions?
And if you have suggestions for a nice dinner/dessert, that'd be okay, too.
7 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoInternet connectivity issues?
My computer (2007 HP Pavillion) has recently been having connectivity issues. It will connect to any wireless network, or local area network, but the speed of surfing is embarrassing. It took 10 minutes to load the Comcast.net home page. Even P2P file sharing is limited to about 1.5kbps download. And this is with COMCAST, man. The rest of the devices on my network run at a smooth speed, though.
I've uninstalled any programs I've downloaded, and tried a system restore. I've run virus scans, spyware scans, and file cleaners. I have tried everything I can think of, including messing with internet options and getting programs that tweak it to maximum efficiency. Nothing has worked.
Are there any suggestions how to fix this?
2 AnswersComputer Networking1 decade agoUpgrading old computer: what should I fix?
I'm trying to make my computer optimal for a media center: movies, music, etc. Basically, I just want it to start-up faster, and run media files smooth.
Here are the stats:
Dell Dimension 8400
Windows XP Professional
Processor: "x86 Family 15 Model 4 Stepping 1 GenuineIntel ~3192 Mhz (3.2 Ghz processor, single-core)
Total Physical Memory: 1024 MB
Available physical memory 511.48 MB
Total virtual memory 2.00 GB
Available virtual memory 1.96
Page file space: 2.40 GB
Sound card: Creative Audigy Audio processor (WDM)
GPX Card: ASUS EAH3450 Series (512 MB RAM)
Hard drive: 144.31 GBs
Free Space: 54.46 GBs
I've already upgraded the sound card and the graphics card. I'm thinking about upping my RAM to 2 Gbs of 1024MB-667MHz DDR2-667 PC2-5300, 240p DIMM, 1.8v (by Elixir). Any other suggestions?
1 AnswerOther - Hardware1 decade agoGetting an Alaskan Malamute/German Shepherd mix; are we right for it?
Hello.
We're getting an Alaskan Malamute/German Shepherd puppy this fall, and I was wondering if we are right for it.
There are three of us in the household (no children), we have four cats, and live in the suburbs. I am willing to walk the dog and pay for toys and such, but I was wondering if this dog would be too aggressive to have around cats, or if the suburbs is not a place for this dog.
Also, any specific characteristics of this specific mix would be very nice to know.
Thank you.

7 AnswersDogs1 decade agoDoes anybody know what "Vector" business is?
I just received a letter in the mail for job opportunities for "Vector." It's a company dealing with customer sales and service.
Here's what the letter says:
"Vector is an international company established in 1981. We are currently expanding locally and have summer customer sales and service positions available. These positions will offer several unique advantages for those students accepted."
It offers $12.25/hr wage. I called, and already have an interview for tonight.
One problem: I don't know what the heck this company is or what it does. Can someone help me out?
1 AnswerCorporations1 decade agoGarry's Mod, Source Content, and other things?
So, I have a friend. My friend wants to install the Half-Life package (Half-Life source, Half-Life 2, Half-Life 2: Episode 1, Counter Strike: Source) on my computer because he says that I can get this awesome game called Garry's Mod 10.
I've played it before. It's really good.
I'm more than willing to buy Garry's Mod 10 from my own money, but the thing I worry about is the other content. He said I can't have Garry's Mod without the other stuff because it uses content from those games. Since it uses the content from the game I'm borrowing from him, is that illegal?
We both want to play Garry's Mod online at the same time, too. So if we're both accessing that content, even though only he paid for it, is that bad?
If it is illegal, I'd have no problem going out and buying my own copy (if I can find one of the packages) I just wanted to make sure.

2 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoHow much would you pay for a 2001 Buick Century with only 50,000 miles?
Like I said, 2001 Buick Century, white, only 50,000 miles on it. Driven by an old lady. Most use it ever got was when I took it from Portland, OR to San Fransisco, CA and back. It never had a problem. Only one tiny dent, no bad smells, no chips in the glass. Comes with full and clean oil. Power seats, power windows, seats six, HUGE trunk, and drives very smooth.
I'm selling it because my grandmother has been diagnosed with dementia, and doesn't want to drive any more. I get to sell it, and keep the profits for college tuition.
Thanks.
3 AnswersBuying & Selling1 decade ago2-player co-op Xbox360 games?
Just got done the other day from playing Resident Evil 5. A decent game, but the remarkable thing about it was that it had LOCAL MULTIPLAYER. Online is cool, but I actually have friends that come over. Online does us no good then.
I'm looking for some games that have a multiplayer campaign function that don't totally suck. Resident Evil 5 is a shining example.
Specs:
Must be for Xbox 360
2-4 players, though only usually need 2
Campaign co-op is a must
4 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoCodex Gigas: Can you buy a translated copy?
If you've never heard of the Codex Gigas, it's a book written in medieval times. It was supposedly written in one night by a man who sold his soul to the devil.
It was written in Latin in excellent calligraphy, and contains very interesting tidbits of Jewish and Christian history.
Now, I was wondering if there are any translated copies for sale anywhere? I've searched for a while and turned up nothing.

6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoResident Evil 5: Infinite Ammo, Professional Mode, and You?
Hey.
I'm gunning to get that achievement on Xbox360 for beating the game on Professional mode, and it'll be all-too easy with infinite ammo turned on. Oh, how I love my awesome infinite RPGs.
However, before we set out on this, we want to make sure that beating the game on Professional difficulty with infinite ammo turned on will still unlock the achievement.
Answer?
Thanks.
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games1 decade agoSurround Sound issues with Xbox 360?
Hey there.
I have 5.1 surround sound in my room, and an optical/digital Monster cable running from my Xbox to the receiver. I get sound if, in the Xbox console, I enable "digital stereo," but that means I lose my precious 5.1 (as stereo only means left and right channel). When I enable Digital 5.1 Surround, or Digital 5.1 Surround with WMA, I lose all subwoofer. I love my sub. It's a beast.
So, you see my issue. I've had to make the choice between awesome and accurate sound, or gut-busting subwoofer that make children cry. I would no longer have to make this decision.
Does anyone have a solution?
2 AnswersHome Theater1 decade agoOld school: StarCraft map question?
I have Brood War, however my friend does not. We're going to be playing online, and I've been searching for some maps. I found a lot, but there's an important question I have before I start downloading...
Are brood war maps and original maps interchangeable? Meaning that if we're both playing SC original, are there some maps we can't play?
Thanks.

2 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoIce-breakers, Get-to-know-you games, ETC?
Hey, I'm in a Educational Occupations class, and our assignment is to find the best and most effective icebreaker, and demonstrate it with the class.
If you don't know what an icebreaker is, it's the games you play on the first day of class to help you get to know everyone in the room.
I've found a few examples, but I need more to share with the class. Help is very appreciated.
