  • Looking for an affiliate program for desktop software, anyone have any experience with any?

    I have written desktop applications for years, but have always been paid to do it. I've had a lot of success with my ad-supported android applications and decided to give it a shot on desktop applications. Much to my dismay, adsense doesn't allow this so I need to find an affiliate program that does. I also work with Amazon and read through their terms, they allow it. But I'm hoping to find a PPC or PPM program. Anyone have any experience with any?

    Thanks!

  • Religious friend shunned after divorce, what was he supposed to do?

    I have a friend that was born and raised baptist. His parents homeschooled their children for religious reasons and all that fun stuff. With that kind of background, he decided that when he grew up, he'd become a minister and went to bible college for it. He completed it, all set to go. He found a girl, got married, she became pregnant, had the baby. After about a year or so, she became physically abusive to him (hitting him, throwing things at him, etc) and cheated on him multiple times with different people (according to her). He ended up filing for a divorce which got him pretty much disowned from his family, his eligibility of becoming a minister was revoked, and he was chased out of his church that he had been going to his entire life.

    I'm not a religious person, but I really want to know what he was supposed to do instead. He married someone he dated for a few years and after she had a child, she completely changed. I understand that when you get married, you make a promise to God. Also, a paternity test showed that the child is not even his but because he was still the child's father for the time they were together, he still supports him financially and emotionally (which I cannot believe but I guess he's a better person than I am). I feel terrible for him, his whole life has been turned upside down and I'm trying to understand why he was shunned so badly. I get it, he and his wife both made a promise to God when they were married, and I'm assuming that he "should have kept his promise to God even though she broke hers" but what was he supposed to do? Buy a house with a room over the garage away from their family so she can procreate with strangers and he can raise those children as well? While being assaulted whenever she feels? What's the alternative?

    She also came from a religious family, but probably not to the extent of his.

    Please be serious, I don't want to see catholic people bashing baptist people, atheists bashing christians, etc, etc. Thanks.

  • Are these termites or winged ants?

    We went to open our windows today and found a huge surprise. After pulling back our curtains, we found about 50-100 winged insects crawling all over the inside of the windows and curtains. We quickly went to the internet and looked up termites. It doesn't match up to what we're seeing in the pictures and descriptions. They say if the antennae are straight, it's a termite. These antennae are straight. But it also says if there is a "waist" (or a non-straight abdomen), it's an ant. Well our infestation has "waists" so now they're not termites.

    I've included a couple pictures. One is an upclose shot and the other is the top of one of our windows, where the largest collection of the instects are gathered.

  • If my tenant causes damage before they move out, do I charge them for it or take it out of their deposit?

    Let's say that I have a tenant with a 1 year lease. They move in and 2 months later, they break the glass in a big window and it costs $300 to replace. Do I charge them the $300 to fix it or do I take it out of their deposit? They broke the window, but they can't afford to cough up the $300 in one shot. Should I have them make payments to me for it until it's paid off or is it just taken out of the deposit?

    There is no lease, it's a theoretical question. I'm considering purchasing a property from someone I know in order to rent out. I know it's a lot of work and a hassle being a landlord, but it would help out my friend and might put a little extra money in my pocket. I've gone through my state's laws, but it really only discusses damages after a tenant moves out of the property and not when they are still living there. I couldn't really just leave the window broken out until they moved out...

    Thanks!

  • Why does my car sound like it's popping popcorn made out of steel? Also runs rough, no relevent OBD codes.?

    2003 Intrepid ES - 3.5L

    It does it whether the car is hot or cold. I start the car up and it immediately starts making this noise. It seriously sounds like it is popping metal popcorn inside of a metal can. The fluids are all fine. The first time I noticed it, I drove home from work and it was running just fine and quiet. Minutes later, I got back into my car to run to the store and it made the noise and idled roughly right when I started it. I tried starting it this morning and it does the same thing so engine temperature is unrelated. It starts right up, no smells, just runs rough and makes the noise.

    I am getting OBD codes, but that's for the EVAP system. Had those for a couple months and haven't gotten around to fixing them yet, and won't until the popping issue is resolved. The popping frequency does increase when the gas is applied whether in gear, neutral, or park. Any ideas on what it could be or where I should start checking?

  • 2003 3.5L Intrepid ES, Shuddering idles, error codes galore (6 of them, including misfires)?

    I have a 2003 3.5L ES. I love the car, but it's been parked and rarely driven for the last year and a half. It's probably been driven less than 50 miles in that time. We've moved and now my wife and I need to drive separately, so I'm driving my car regularly again. Today, my car started and then died in the driveway with a flashing CEL. Error codes: P0300 & P0302. Engine misfire, cyl 2 supposedly. I'll check it out more when I get home from work. But I have also had 4 other error codes for awhile. Here are all of my codes and descriptions I've found online, does the combination make anyone think of anything specific?

    P0300 - Multiple cylinder misfire

    P0302 - Cyclinder 2 misfire (which one is 2?)

    P0456 - Evap small leak

    P0440 - Evap system malfunction

    P0582 - Speed control Vacuum solenoid (my cruise doesn't work)

    P0586 - Speed control vent circuit

    Reading about my misfires and possible solutions, I've found vacuum leaks mentioned, is it possible that all 3 of these (evap system, speed control system, misfires) are related through leaky hoses?

    Acouple more things:

    1. When the heat is on, I can smell a little bit of exhaust inside of the car

    2. I have discovered a small transmission leak. Overnight, I will lose a little fluid up under the hood. I'll find 2 spots on the ground, one on the driver side and the other on the passenger side. The driver seems to drip a little more, I'm assuming the fluid is dripping onto something and travelling out until it drips.

    Any help or direction would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Reading a file with C++ using a function.?

    I'm having some trouble with a C++ function i created. I can read from the file just fine, but when I put it in a function (read_file, in this case), I can't compile. Is there something I'm missing? it looks correct, but I'm really new to C++ and could use a little assistance.

    I'm trying to return a string from the read_file function. I have tried going the read_file(string s) route by giving a string ("Boat.txt") and using ifstream file(s) but it gives me similar errors.

    Error:

    Files.cpp: In function 'int main()':

    Files.cpp:22:25: note: synthesized method 'std::basic_ifstream<char>::basic_ifstream(const std::basi

    c_ifstream<char>&)' first required here

    Files.cpp:22:25: error: initializing argument 1 of 'std::string read_file(std::ifstream)'

    Pastebin: //http://pastebin.com/8gmEfVta

    Code:

    #include <iostream>

    #include <fstream>

    using namespace std;

    string read_file(ifstream file)

    {

    string s;

    if(file.is_open()) {

    while(file.good()) {

    string l;

    getline(file,l);

    s = s + l + "\n";

    }

    }

    return s;

    }

    int main()

    {

    ifstream f("Boat.txt");

    string s1 = read_file(f);

    cout << s1 << endl;

    return 0;

    }

    Like I said, if I do this in main(), I have no trouble. It's just when I put it into a function and try to return a string from it, it stops compiling.

    Thanks for the help!

  • Can I force windows installer to install without passing ie check?

    I have an old application that I am trying to reinstall on a windows xp computer. The xp machine has Internet Explorer 8 installed. However, when I try to install the software, it returns a message stating that IE 4.02+ must be installed and then it aborts the install. Obviously, 8 is a greater version number than 4.02, but it just won't install. I know the software is compatable, because it is running on another computer with the same hardware/software. But when it was oroginally installed, xp SP1 wasn't even out yet. Since then, the computers' software has all been updated and now I can't install this old application on a fully updated system.

    The application will work on the computer, but I can't figure out how to make it force the install even though the criteria "isn't met" (which it is, it's just that the old installer doesn't detect it properly). Thanks for your help!

  • Car is randomly having problems starting, what could be the problem?

    My wife has a 2003 Taurus that is having some issues starting. It's very inconsistent so it's been hard to figure out what the problem could be. The car will start up fine for a few weeks, then suddenly it won't turn over. The battery is fine (horn honks fine, power windows/locks work at normal speed, headlights and dome lights are as bright as they always have been) so I really don't think it's a battery problem. After trying to start the car a few tries (and there not being any indication that something is actually happening besides the lights on the dashboard changing), it will either start perfectly or turn over very slowly. One time when it was turning over slowly, I tried to jump start it with my car, which resulted in the car no longer even turning over. Then I pulled my car away and came back to her car and tried it again normal, started up perfectly. I've followed the connection from the battery to the starter and it appears to be a good connection. Does this sound like a starter issue? I've never seen such inconsistencies on a bad starter, usually it either tries to start or it doesn't instead of randomly trying/not trying/trying very slowly/etc.

    We bought the starter from O'Reilly and it's still under warranty, but it's a pain to change - especially during the winter months. Also, this is the second warranty replacement starter so far. If it IS the starter, we'll be on our 4th starter from O'Reilly, and our third warranty exchange.

    Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks.

  • Father passed away. What happens to the house?

    My father passed away in the last few days and I have 3 siblings (all 18+ years of age) that were living in the house with him. He still owes money on the house, but it is only a few years away from being paid off. None of my siblings are in the position to buy the house, which is why they were living with him in the first place. I do not want the house, nor does my sister. We want to go along with my father's wishes (no legal document) and give the house to my brother(s) that grew up there. My brothers are talking about what they'll be doing to the house cosmetically and have already gotten into doing some improvements to get their minds off of losing our father.

    But I am worried that they're getting too involved with the house before we even know what happens. Is it possible for the mortgage company to just transfer the loan to someone else to pick up the payments (again, none are in the position to buy the house but they could afford the current payments)? Or does the house go back to the mortgage company with "no owner" and then somebody would have to buy it?

    I have not yet spoken with an attorney about the situation, I have an appointment later this week. Really, I'm just hoping to get an idea on what may happen. I don't want to tell my brothers to lay off of the work and risk them getting angry with me if I don't have to. And I really do want them to do some work on the house to be together and keep busy in this time of sadness. But I don't want to see them doing this work and feeling better just to see the mortgage company come back and tell them to get out of their house.

    As I stated, I have not yet spoken with an attorney and will be this week. I have spoken with the mortgage company but they would not release any information to me without first receiving some paperwork and the death certificate. I don't even have the certificate yet so I can't push that direction.

    If anyone has been in a similar situation, I would like to hear what happened so I can better prepare my brothers for bad news if it is coming. Thank you.

  • Have some hex (I think) that I'm trying to figure out how to convert?

    I have a list of hex (I believe) that I'm trying to figure out what it is. I know what it is directly related to, and the values, but I don't know how it comes to the conclusion. I've been googling for 3 days and the obvious "convert hexadecimal to ascii/decimal/whatever" websites are not of any use. I don't know if it's converted to float, or if there is some kind of middleman treatment that is making it come up with the result it does. Sadly, I do not have a for-sure match of 1 hex to 1 result. But I do know that all of it comes out to be in the range of 1.9 to 2.1.

    I don't have enough information, I'm kind of shooting in the dark. But maybe there is something obvious that I am missing. Here is one of the lines (out of 44) of the 80 characters of hex.

    004C8346005284460060854600688646

    00708746007E8846008E894600A48A46

    00B28B4600CC8C46

    That is all on one line, but yahoo doesn't care for that many characters with no spaces.

    I notice there is a "00XXXX46" pattern. All of the lines contain this pattern, except it also does "00XXXX47" I believe it is raw output from an Analog to Digital converter. Any numbers figured from that string would be in the range of 1.916416 - 2.074627.

    The ADC chip on the board is ADS7809U. The datasheet I found on it says it outputs straight binary or two's complement binary depending on some option. This is WAY far away from my area of expertise, but it's kind of been thrown at me to see what I can make of it. Any ideas are much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • how do I display the error codes on a 2003 Dodge Intrepid?

    There is some combination of things to do that will display the engine error codes on the digital odometer. I do not have the manual in my possession (it's at home, I'm at work) and the check engine light came on as I was on the way to work. I have done this in the past, just can't recall how to do it. I've been searching the web, but all of the results have been about "I have error code x, what do I do?" and all I want is to find out how to get those error codes.

    Thanks!

  • Can no longer access computer on network - Windows XP?

    We have a computer that we can no longer connect to across the network. My account is an administrator on the computer and trying to access anything at all on the computer does not work. \\computername brings nothing up, \\computername\data (a shared directory) doesn't work, and \\computername\c$ doesn't work. Last week, all of these worked.

    No new software has been installed, the computer is on the network and can be pinged just fine, the firewall is disabled, file sharing is enabled, like I said, it worked last week and had for over a year before that. We have restarted the computer many times.

    I've tried creating a new share as well but, of course since I can't access it at all with \\computername, that doesn't work either.

    Anyone have any additional ideas that I can try?

    Thanks!

  • Police speed trap = entrapment?

    A coworker of mine rides with me to and from work. I drive down a divided highway and there is a certain spot that they always set up speed traps. I find it hilarious that people still get caught speeding there because they have this little operation going on about 5 times out of the month when I'm on my way to work. I noticed that they only do it in the morning.

    They usually have a car parked on the inner shoulder on the northbound side of the highway (our side) as the spotter and the pursuit cars on the on ramp on the southbound side. Today, the spotter car was a totally unmarked vehicle. Generally, the unmarked cars are still the same style of the rest of the force's cars and have the special plates and lights inside of their car. Today, it was a mid 90s short blazer with no lights anywhere and civilian plates. As we drove past, we looked in the car and, sure enough, there was a police officer in uniform inside of the vehicle. At this point, my passenger was saying that they couldn't do that. I told him it didn't matter anyway because the people are still speeding and are therefor breaking the law. If they didn't want to get pulled over, they should be driving the speed limit. It's a chance they take. Then he said it was entrapment. I was under the understanding that entrapment is only if the police somehow coax you into breaking the law. I told him that having the blazer parked there didn't press everyone's gas pedal farther down, but he was having none of it. I'm sure there are some police officers that will be reading this. Please help me convince my coworker that what they did was not wrong, just tricky.

    Thank you!

    Also, another quick question for you police officers. Why do they only do this in the morning? Do they do it because people are more likely to speed in the morning because they're running late for work? Or maybe to inconvenience people to MAKE them late to work? If you get a ticket as well as get in trouble at work, it might make someone less likely to speed again in the future.

  • Dell Inspiron e1505 laptop doesn't boot/post.?

    I have an e1505 laptop and it does not boot up. When I press the power button, the numlock, capslock, and scrolllock leds light up for about 2 seconds and turn off. The power led lights up and stays lit up. The laptop also warms up so I know it's getting power and the cpu and gpu are both getting power (this is confirmed because I opened up the laptop to reset the bios). I reset the bios and the same thing is happening: nothing shows up on the screen. I also attempted to connect it to an external monitor and still no joy, BUT the monitor will leave sleep mode when I first turn on the laptop and go back into sleep mode a few seconds later. So again, there is power and it has nothing to do with the battery or the AC adapter that is so often the problem. Nothing ever happens on the screen. It is always black. Also, the activity light never lights up. Pressing the power button again turns the computer off immediately. The cpu and gpu get pretty warm but the fan doesn't kick on at all.

    Any other ideas for me to look into?

    Thank you!

  • Windows XP: Your account is configured to prevent you from using this computer.?

    I have a laptop that when I try to login with any user that is not an administrator, I get this error and it will not login. I've searched the web and pretty much all of the results I've found point toward network groups and active directory issues. This computer is not connected to a network. I've also seen the security logging mentioned. I have disabled it according to what Microsoft suggests and I get the same error.

    Thanks for any input you may have.

  • Rounding is MS Excel?

    I know how to round using formulas, but can rounding be done without using individual formulas? Like Round items in place.

    I have an excel file that goes from A1 to ET917. Each cell has a decimal in it that I want wounded down to 6 points. I would like to be able to do this without creating a new column next to each column to use the rounding function. I tried out the copy/paste special but was unable to find anything of use there.

    Does anyone know an easier way than using new columns for each column combined with a formula? There are 150 columns, possibly 10 different files.

    Thanks!
