  • What sort of camera do I need for portrait-quality shots?

I need a camera in order to take my own headshots. I want one that will give me the quality equal to a professional photographer. Ideally, it would be one that I can connect to a monitor so that I can see myself and take the shot by remote when I have the look I want. Any suggestions?

  • Hard Drive Volume is suddenly "RAW"?

I have a hard drive with two volumes on it, G and H. Both were formatted in the NTFS system. Recently I have been unable to access Volume G. I get the following message:

    G:\ is not accessible.

The wrong diskette is in the drive.

Insert (Volume Serial Number: ) into drive G:\.

When I right clicked on the icon for Volume G and clicked properties I saw the file system listed as "RAW".

Can someone please tell me how this happened and how can I get it back to NTFS? The other volume (Volume H) is perfectly fine.

  • 80s pop song "Up & Back" or "That's Gonna Get You Back" or something.?

There was this 80s pop song where the chorus started with something like "Got to get up and ba-ack" and ended with something like "that's gonna get you back." Then the backing vocals came in with "Back... onnnnn, track!" In the video, the backup singers were these real ugly women in chicken suits who puckered up to the camera. At the end, they laid a giant egg from which the guy who was lead singer burst. Who were they and what song was that?

  • Identity of the girl in the video for Heart Shaped Box?

Is there anyone who knows the identity of the girl who wears the Ku Klux Klan costume in the video for Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box? I was just looking up info on the "Bee Girl" in Blind Melon's No Rain video (Her name is Heather DeLoach and she is an actress now.) and I wondered if anyone knows who the girl in Heart Shaped Box was. What is she doing now and what does she think of the video's impact after fifteen years?

  • Why won't my camcorder videos play on any of my computer's players or upload to YouTube?

I just bought a Sony Handycam and made a short video which I successfully uploaded from the camcorder's harddrive to my PC. The video is 1m42s in length, 88.9 MB. On "Properties" the file type is listed as "MPEG" but the file name ends in ".mpg", (I don't know if that's important or not.)

None of my media players are able to play this file correctly. Windows Media Player plays it at what appears to be higher than normal speed with no sound at all. Also the video is patchy, that is ther are little squares popping up all through it.

When I try to play it with Realplayer it gives me a message--

"Some portions of this file cannot be played. Would you like to see if there is an update for this file?"

When I click no it plays just like the Windows player-- no sound and patchy playback. If I click yes it then tells me "Realplayer needs to download new software to play this clip." So I clicked Ok. After searching, it then informs me that there is "no software update from Real to support this content."

Quicktime player won't play it at all.

Finally, when I tried to upload it to YouTube it started trying to load it but it was very slow. After about 10 minutes of uploading (finishing only about 10% of it) it finally quit and said it couldn't finish because of an "unknown error."

What is wrong with this file? What do I need to do to get this file to play like the hundreds of other MPEG files I have on my harddrives? None of them give me any trouble. Why is this one different? I installed all the software that came with it if that has anything to do with it.

  • Can anyone tell me the chords to this George Strait song?

This is a little known song from George's album "If You Ain't Lovin', You Ain't Livin'" called "Don't Mind If I Do." Track #4. It's sort of jazzy and, being a genuine hack on guitar, I can't figure out what the chord progression is. I'd be very grateful to anyone who can tell me how to play this.

  • Can someone place this accent from Band Of Brothers?

In the first episode, Malarkey has an encounter with a British solder dressed in a German uniform to familiarize the troops with the look of the enemy. When this fellow speaks he has a particular regional English accent which is very pronounced and makes him virtually incomprehensible. Can anyone tell me what sort of accent this is and, for that matter, what is he actually saying? I can't make it out to save my life.

  • Why do we still refer to "Einstein's theory" instead of "Einstein's law"?

Einstein's "theory" of general relativity is one of the most rigorously tested tenents of science and all modern physicists accept it as valid. It is highly unlikely that it will ever be disproven. In fact, the very fact that television sets (at least the old cathode ray tube sets) and global positioning satellites function the way they do depends on the predictions made by Relativity. Why do we still refer to it as a "theory?" Isn't it high time we started refering to "Einstein's Law?"

  • Italian speakers, Italian dialogue from The Godfather?

I'm in an acting class where I have to perform a scene from a movie or play and I want to do one with some foreign dialogue. I particularly wanted to do the scene in the restraunt with Michael, Sollozo, and McCluskey. I don't speak Italian but I can fake it if I have the dialogue written out. I just can't find it anywhere. The IMDB script database has the movie script but it skips the Italian parts, saying only "SOLLOZZO now begins in rapid Sicilian. MICHAEL listening..."

Or if any Italian speakers can just tell what it if from listening I'd be grateful.

  • Is the exposition on Beethoven's 7th Symphony supposed to repeat?

This was the first piece of classical music I ever took any interest in. I was maybe 12 at the time. I didn't know jack about "expositions" or "sonata-allegro form" but I seem to remember the first portion of the first movement "coming around" again.

Years later when I decided to take up classical music again and started learning this stuff I listened to the 7th and it seemed like the first movement was cut short. I finally realized that the first recording I heard must have repeated the exposition and susequent recordings did not. How is it supposed to be played? That is, how did Beethoven originally mark it?

I located Franz Listz's piano transcription of the 7th symphony and he had the exposition repeating. Are there any recordings of the full symphony where this is done?

  • Where can I find some clips of obscure, hard to understand English accents?

I've heard English people speaking English, but with a regional accent so pronounced that it was virtually unintelligible. I don't necessarily mean "Cockney." In one video clip I saw, it looked like it was shot out in the country somewhere. I've heard places like Lancashire and Cornwall have pretty difficult accents. I would love to find some more video clips like that, preferably with subtitles.

  • Is it important for historical movies to be accurate?

I personally get annoyed with movies that claim to be based on historical events but then don't come close to presenting an accurate picture of the events they claim to portray. In "Immortal Beloved", there is simply no way that the person identified was the intended recipient of Beethoven's letter. (She was nowhere near Karlsbad on the date in question; she was, in fact, in jail.)

I realize there may be some "deeper message" that the film is trying to send, and that the filmmakers are trying to create something that people who knows little about history will like, but I personally think that the true story could be every bit as entertaining.

We in the U.S. are horribly ignorant of history. Much of what people think they know is from movies like Braveheart. Most Americans really think it's stupid to have to know about things that happended so long ago. "We're living in the present! Why worry about what happened hundreds of years ago?"

But I say it matters. Am I right?

  • How do you make cream cheese pie, as opposed to cheesecake?

I'm trying to make a cream cheese pie, not a cheesecake. One difference is that the cream cheese pie is not baked. It has a different consistencey, about as firm, as ice cream, but smoother and not frozen. It dosen't have the cake-like consistency of cheesecake.

Anyway, I'm using the following recipe:

    INGREDIENTS

1 (9 inch) prepared graham cracker crust

1 (21 ounce) can light cherry pie filling

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk

    1/3 cup lemon juice

    1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    DIRECTIONS

Beat cream cheese until light and fluffy. Gradually add sweetened condensed milk, and continue beating until smooth and combined. Add lemon juice and vanilla; mix well.

Fill graham cracker crust evenly. Refrigerate until set; this will take between 2 to 4 hours.

The end result? Cream cheese soup! Does anybody know how I can firm this up? Or am I doing something wrong?
