  • websites for lonely people to talk to each other?

Hello, do you know of any websites for lonely people to communicate with each other? I now live alone, am busy during the day (mostly volunteering - I'm 69), am healthy, and with a good optimistic attitude to life. Female, with two adult children, both happy with their own lives & friendships. I've moved around the world a lot and 'best friends' are thousands of miles away. But the long evenings on my own, with no-one to share thoughts with, are never ending. And sometimes whole weekends, too. All the websites I've tried to find are dating websites - not what I'm looking for. Online 'pen friends' of either sex would be terrific. Thanks for reading xx

  • British football Cup Final ... what happened?

When did the Cup Final stop being the most important championship in the year, and the (hooray!!) end of football during the summer, until the dreaded next season began? Was I asleep? Doesn't it count any more?

  • Do pheasants eat goldfish?

Hello. I was thrilled during the freezing weather when a male pheasant appeared in my back garden, shovelling down the seed I regularly put down for the smaller birds. But I've now noticed a complete lack of goldfish in my pond!!! There were five glossy fat fish, even after all the ice. Do pheasants eat goldfish? - I wondered if that was how he repaid my hospitality.

  • Yahoo won't allow me to use apostrophe?

For the past month, completely suddenly and out of the blue, I have been unable to use the apostrophe in Yahoo emails - I try to type, for example, don't, and a box pops up in Notebook at the bottom left of the screen, and I cannot continue to type. I have to avoid the ' and use some other symbol. The system just DOES NOT allow the '. symbol.

Why?????? How can I fix this?

    Cheers,

    sue

  • American mid term elections; candidates for the Tea Party?

Help, please, for an ignorant Englishperson. I presume individuals vote for their choice of party on the electoral paper. I understand the categories Republican - Democrat - Independent. My question is, is there a separate party called Tea Party, with an individual place shown on the voting paper? Separate from the Republican Party? Do parties in the U.S, have to put forward a certain amount of money to pay for a candidate to stand? Does the electoral paper in the U.S. have numerous candidates to choose from, & vote for, or does the voter have to make just one selection from the ballot paper?

    Many thanks, helpers!!

  • why are dusters yellow?

Whilst idly debating whether I could bear to do some furniture cleaning, I wondered why the traditional soft dusters are always yellow? Whenever they're washed all the colour comes out; so it must be dye, not a natural hue. Anyone know why they are this colour?

  • stainless steel harpic stains?

Stupidly I squirted some strong Harpic lavatory cleaner overnight on my stainless steel sink. There are now unsightly long marks, as well as a propensity to rust. I've tried cream of tartar & lemon juice paste as a remedy. Does anyone have any suggestions for restoring the stainless steel depth and appearance? I'm happy to buy a commercial product but want to make sure they work. Many thanks.

  • who is lending U.K. the money?

I'm probably dim; but I can't find this information anywhere. The U.K. (and many other countries) are hugely in debt and keep borrowing billions of pounds. Every country seems to be in debt. Is the money 'borrowed' from the IMF? If so, where does the IMF get the money? how is it financed? Is it real money, i.e. based on gold or products, or just printed money? Please help!!!

  • PayPal - how to talk to a human?

Hello, I've had this nightmare before & had to make an official complaint about them. Basically the question I want to ask IS NOT included in any of their 'choices' on their website, therefore I cannot send them an email. When I telephone them, once again because the specific question (an enquiry about a charge collected by a seller, when we reversed a purchase) is not one of their recognised patterns, I get stuck in the automated system with a male voice increasingly loudly going back over the few choices they allow me to make!

PLEASE - does anyone have an email address to their customer services? I did have this a few months' ago but long since deleted the address.

And, an early happy Christmas to everyone ... HoHoHo x

It is generally believed that Jesus' language would have been Aramaic - closely aligned to Hebrew.. It is also believed that the Gospels attributed to (but not provable by) Matthew, Mark, Luke and John were written in Greek. Why is this please?

  • Microwave glass plate - any alternatives? Can any thick glass be used ...?

Having had an exciting few minutes with the microwave (left on for 10 minutes without food in the cooking vessel...), the glass turntable plate and the plastic food heater fused together! they shattered, when force was applied to separate them.

Does anyone know if it is absolutely necessary to use a thick glass plate especially made for microwaves? - or an another type of plate be used? (weirdly enough I had a spare, from a previous cooker, which I bequeathed just two weeks' ago to a charity shop).

    thanks for your help.

    cheers,
