New PC, but making 'shut down' noises when in operation.?
I got a new PC about a month or so ago.
Its a quad core AMD Phenom II, 4gb, Nividia GeForce 7600 GS graphics card.
It has one small fan that comes with the casing and 2 more small ones - one of them is on the motherboard.
Now the last PC I had had its motherboard melt because it overheated when the computer fan shut off. It was a huge fan and there was another fan on the motherboard which stopped working as well.
I asked the seller to put additional fans and he said it shouldn't be a problem with overheating.
Now its been about a month since I'm using the PC and every now and then when I am using it to surf the net (no gaming, heavy intensive PC tasks) I hear the sound of the pc 'shutting down' although it is still 100% working.
It just makes that noise as though the motors/fans have shut down.
Any ideas why this is happening, and how can I fix this?
Thanks in advance.

4 AnswersDesktops1 decade agoRemoving data from a PC hard drive to an external HD?
Problem:
My pc runs on Windows XP.
It hangs from 3 minutes to a few days randomly upon start up and has to go through several manual resets before it does not hang. It gets the occasional blue screen of death error.
Usually it takes 2 - 3 start ups before it operates normally without hanging for the next few days.
Recently I've been getting more of these and more blue screens of death very early upon switching on the pc. It takes more than 2 - 3 resets after hanging consecutively a few minutes after the start up.
I'm planning to reformat my PC but I need to get some valuable data out.
I tried to burn the data onto DVDs, however, because its been hanging a few minutes after starting up my pc I'm barely even able to get it to burn 10% before the PC hangs.
Question:
Is there any way I can remove data from an internal HD without actually turning on my computer so that I can transfer my data onto an external HD?
Or can I unplug my internal HD and plug it into another PC and get the data out?
How can I resolve this problem?
Any tips, suggestions or alternate solutions?

3 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoAny tips for driving from Melbourne to Broome?
I'm planning to drive from Melbourne, across Alice Springs to Broome around mid - end of December.
I've never driven across such a long distance before except from Melbourne - Sydney or Melbourne - Adelaide but I'm a little worried driving across the continent.
Are there any tips on driving long distances? Outback tips?
Do I need an 4X4? Should I go via car or would a campervan be better?
Does anyone know if there will be plenty of petrol stations along the way?
Any attractions to stop by half way along the way and at Broome?

Will your family approve of it?
Thanks.
13 AnswersOther - Cultures & Groups1 decade agoWhy do ppl place the responsibility of their own search of a meaning of life on e shoulders of others opinions?
Why does a religion have to be 'bad' because someone decided the few followers they spoke to were stupid or blind?
Why does a book deemed holy by others obviously written by the hand of man have to be read literally and not analysed logically with consideration that it might have been inspiration by the divine and written with the understanding of a person living thousands of years ago and no knowledge of anything beyond his or her own society and societal norms?
Why does there have to be a black and white line drawn in the face of humanity's origin and search for truth - there either is a God or there isn't.
There is no proof of either so how can there be an absolute drawn?
Why do you have to decide something is wrong just because you disagree with of the opinions and beliefs of a few people - are your convictions so weak they require the validation of others and pending their beliefs you reject something completely before exploring it on your own?
Why must this "god" you reject be of the 3 major faiths and not a "god" that simply exists, a force, an energy within the universe whereby willed or created the universes which we humans have not even begun to explore nor understand.
Why is it rejection of an Abrahamic God render the non existence of ANY god absolute in your minds?
Is the mind that fallible?
In time when you are questioned about your beliefs - does it not seem childish and foolish to say that the 'others' believed there were two people on this earth in the beginning, you disagreed and hence just decided there was no God?
Its like deciding not to eat meat simply because there are many factories that abuse and torture animals. You can choose to do research and eat meat slaughtered humanely instead of just rejecting it altogether and say that humans weren't meant to consume meat and eating it is 'wrong'.
Why does science have to be distinct from religion not with religion? Some of the greatest things discovered in humanity and many things you use and believe today came from scientists working within the premise of religion in tandem, to discover what they believed was a wide world created by a god for them to discover.
When did science somehow discredit religion when science itself is an ongoing experimentation of discovery by human beings of the world around them through various methods including route testing, trial and error and random tests to procure and establish various theories which seem to explain the phenomenon?
Today something can be discovered which no one thought possible and tomorrow something else might have been discovered which completely discredits and overthrows a current theory in use.
How is it any more credible than religions that attempt to discover the meaning and origin of life through explanation, exploration and belief of the 'supernatural' (spirits, God, energy, etc) which science itself might not have discovered nor understood.
How can we say that science has discredit the concept of God when all that can be discovered has not been discovered.
I would like to know the honest views of everyone - atheists, agnostics and religious people.
If you're going to be rude or offensive you know where the 'back' button is.

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago"Double standards much?" What does adding 'much' to a word mean?
I've seen people write in forums and online adding 'much' to their words.
For example, the topic is about men and women:
Bill_02: Women are clingy and manipulative.
Jane31: That coming from the guy who wrote about his girlfriend dumping him after he stopped her from going to a party. Double standards much?
How is the "much" supposed to add context to a word?
I understand more or less the context of it - but what does "much" amount to in terms of meaning and on its own?

1 AnswerWords & Wordplay1 decade agoHow to tell if rice is just stale or gone bad?
I left a pot of rice for about 3 days without putting it in the fridge and it has a very slight funky smell, but otherwise texture is perfectly fine.
Should I use is for the next meal in fried rice/biryani or should I chuck it and make a new batch?
Just seems like such a waste to throw a cup of cooked rice.
5 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoWhat side dishes go well with 4 cheese pasta?
I'm cooking dinner in a couple of hours and have decided on a 4 cheese pasta.
However, there are no veggies in the pasta and I can't think of any veggie side dish which will go well with a 4 cheese pasta!
Any ideas or recipes?
12 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoHow is Jesus God?
(Firstly, I'd like to apologize in advance if what I've written is offensive to anyone. I'm an honest seeker of faith and the question disturbs me deeply.)
1. The Torah and the Bible's 10 commandments state that we are not to make any graven images or likeness of God and worship it.
By worshipping Jesus, who was Jewish and preached a continuation of the Jewish faith which later became known as Christianity - are we defying God's order?
2. Many of my fellow Christians have told me Jesus is the son of God. Some tell me, Jesus is God. I don't understand, nor can I put into context, how he can be the son of God, and God at once. Can you show me texts from the Bible that explicitly say that Jesus is God?
3.Then there's the holy spirit, which serves even more to confuse Christians and non-Christians alike because it's right up there with God.
4.Why not just "God"? Why does it have to be a trinity which is confusing and gives people ample fodder to say we worship idols?

Read somewhere that Christianity allows Polygamy.
It disturbs me that some Mormons practice Polygamy. If it's allowed, what valid, progressive difference is Christianity from Islam?

17 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow do I set up a small VOIP business?
Hi,
I'm an intern with a small company who's contract with a VOIP provider has ended. We're looking into setting up our own VOIP systems because our VOIP provider has been giving us less than proper service.
As an intern, I'm given the task of finding out how to achieve this, but I have absolutely no idea where and how to start. The net doesn't really offer anything except adverts on VOIP business plans on VONAGE, which is completely irrelevant...
What do you need to set up your own VOIP system to offer for commerical use to the public? Some kind of server? What about softwares?
Any help, will be greatly appreciated.
1 AnswerComputer Networking1 decade agoWhat are some of your greatest bloopers?
It can be anything stupid, or braindead that just slipped out of your mouth, something you said which was so ridiculous it left everyone standing that in great stupor.
Mine was when my fiance and I were watching a movie, and there were these Spanish guys who got offended by a racist slogan yelled at him by a black guy.
"Isn't so ironic that Columbus was Spanish?" My fiance commented. "Spanish?" I blabbed absent-mindedly while watching the movie. "Isn't he American?"
I swear, I've never said anything so stupid in my life.
6 AnswersOther - Society & Culture2 decades agoHow do you deal with people who are obsessed with victimising themselves?
Not only do they care about victimising themselves in virtually any situation where they are at fault, they cannot see what fault they have to play in it, nor do they care or realise whatever they do that might have had an impact on others much more than it did themselves!
How do we deal with such people when you can't just 'walk away' or 'ignore' them, because they're for example, people you work with, or your housemate, etc.
In such situations, no amount of explaining can do anything (like a 5 hour drama I was put through with one of those people and we came right back to the beginning), these people can't see anything that isn't from their side only.
They just can't or won't understand and you go back an entire circle where you started, literally.
8 AnswersOther - Society & Culture2 decades agoHow do you beat the study blues?
I'm supposed to be studying right now, but I don't know why, I've got such a short attention span. EVerytime I sit to study, I can't focus for more than 5 seconds on my work!
Don't get me wrong, I love studying, but I can't bring myself to sit and focus.
There's always procrastination, there's always something else more "pressing" to do like 'the kitchen is dirty,' or 'my notes isn't here, I can't study,' and all kinds of other excuses.
Worse still, my exams are coming up in a week's time.
Any tips or suggestions on how to avoid all that, how to focus myself and just how to not get so bored when studying alone (I prefer group session or actual lectures)?
Thanks.

11 AnswersMarriage & Divorce2 decades agoWhat is there to know about the Jewish culture & their faith?
I'd like to know more about the Jewish faith, as I've read up about Christianity and Islam and realised that many of their beliefs and practices stem from Jewish practices.
One of my Muslim friends told me, "If you want to find truth, look to the source."
I know he means Islam and the Qu'ran, but to be realistic and fair, the Torah is the original source and I realise before I can learn about Christianity and Islam further I must know about Judaism first.
What does their beliefs entail?
Why are they such elusive people?
How is their culture like?
Why is it that almost all Muslims and some Christians hate the jews so bitterly?
(To the point of jews being called "sons of monkeys and donkeys?" and "Jews as in the Qu'ran should never be trusted!" by my arab friends?)
Did Jews kill Jesus? (I myself don't really believe this.)
I'm fascinate by orthadox jews as well, their women cover like Muslims.
All opinions, strong and neutral, and very welcome! Thanks!

9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality2 decades agoProblems in quitting smoking.?
We've decided it's better for my Fiance to quit smoking or it might harm our baby in the future (though we're still in college, it's better to prepare ahead) and his health.
He's on his 3rd day, and this is his 5th time in quitting.
We're working really hard to compromise - his mood swings, hunger pangs - but since the day before he's been complaining of:
- Problems breathing, his breathing is contricted.
- Problems sleeping, he keeps waking up halfway.
- Chest pains and body aches. This one in particular is worrying me alot.
- Dizziness
- Inability to concentrate (it's affecting his studies. He studies everyday and this is affecting him. He can't concentrate!)
Please help, he's really suffering alot and it pains me that we have to go through this just because he made a big mistake of smoking in the past.
How do I make him more comfortable and eliminate the problems his facing above?
9 AnswersGeneral Health Care2 decades agoWhat is the hbpoth07 virus?
I have a strong feeling it's a virus. This hbpth07 replicates itself attaching it to my image files and spread all over my PC, and it's hidden, so I can't search for it and delete it using the search function!
How do I delete this virus, because it's duplicating itself in my PC as pictures and eating up all my PC memory!
5 AnswersSecurity2 decades agoWhat's wrong with my kittens?
My cats are less than a year old but are old enough to sire kittens. They're house cats, but during their first mating season one of my housemates' left the window open, and both of them ran out.
I suspect my kittens are pregnant, but I can't tell. Besides that, they have been making horrible yowling and meowing sounds in their kitty room, and especially when they're on the staircase.
What's wrong with them? They meow from in the morning and at nights, and the sound they make is so horrible, like a wild cat in pain.
Also, how do i tell if my cats are pregnant?
