  • does my insurer have to pay the full amount for a covered item if the price rises after a claim?

I had a fire and my insurer sent me a final list of the items they would cover and their actual cash values and the replacement cost of those items. It has now been about nine months and I recently replaced one of the major covered items, the price of which has risen dramatically since the estimate, now they are claiming that they only have to pay the amount they initially estimated it to cost. I had a replacement cost policy, and the additional cost on this item doesn't put me above my policy limits.

  • has anyone noticed some strange flights around eastern minnesota or west central wisconsin?

for months now, my wife has been mentioning a strange light appearing on the southwestern horizon, toward minneapolis saint paul, appearing to be coming directly towards our home, and then dissapearing at some point. One night about a month ago she pointed it out to me and I observed what appeared to be a very bright(meteor-like) object. I thought it to bright to be an airplane, however, on another night, at about the same time, the bright light appeared again and this time I had the binoculars handy and decided it was an airplane. This was confirmed on yet another night when the light did not disapear, but instead became apparent to be part of a larger "flight" of aircraft of various kinds. The first one i could confirm was a low flying and rather slow large aircraft that looked like me to be a large passenger craft, lit up with what appeared to be stadium lights. After this I paid more attention and found that the large, brightly lit craft appeared to have what I would only assume to be a contingent of fighter escorts, which I could not confirm as these smaller, faster craft never flew close enough for me to view them as clearly as the stream of large low flying craft. The larger craft were flying on what appeared to be exactly the same line of flight as one another, with a fairly good space between each craft(many miles each). Just wondering what was up with this, and if anyone else had noticed. Just one more comment, the night that I got the good look at the large craft was a very cloudy night, on the clear nights the planes all just seem to dissapear at some point.

  • what types of waste wood may a manufacturer of wood pellets put in their pellets?

my employer recently decided to go green ( hah ha ha ha ha) and one of the steps they took was to convert the waste wood products from our fixture manufacturing plant into wood pellets for home heating and animal bedding. I can't believe they are allowed to use all of the types of waste they are currently using in either of those products. The bedding cannot be safe for animals, and the pellets I don't believe would meet emission standards or indoor air quality standards.

  • Why do we spend thousands of dollars a year per student on education, only to have to "help" them do the job?

My second grader came home today with math homework and I proceeded to try and "help" him with it after letting him wind down for an hour after school. I asked him to read the word problem to me and we would figure it out, of course he could not read it well enough to understand what was expected of him. I am totally confused, as his mother and I are avid readers and have read to him since birth. Also, the child has an extensive vocabulary in his daily life here at home and loves to use words that make us wonder where he learned them. When asked to spell out the words he easily does, but when asked to try and pronounce them he just freezes up and makes little or no attempt at all to do so. What are these teachers doing with our children for 7-8 hrs. a day, five days a week that leaves them so confused and scattered when they get home?

  • Why would Ford motors be financially okay unless GM or Chrysler go under?

When GM and Chrysler said they would go under unless bailed out by the early part of 2009 Ford Motor Co. reps stated that they would be alright unless one of the other two went under. Would this not have the opposite effect? If Ford had one(or two) less competitors would they not do better instead of worse, or are they going with the GM version of economics where the job losses would so injure the U.S. economy that even the auto maker that stands after the others fail would not have enough customers to stay afloat?

  • why was a federal law needed requiring the conversion to digital over analog television transmissions?

I have tried to look up info on this but thus far have had no luck. I am merely told that first an fcc. decision was made to allow broadcasters a second "channel" so that they might set up a digital format while continuing to broadcast analog and that later the law was made to require the total switch to digital this coming year. What I really am interested in is WHY the government thinks they need to require such an arbitrary and total changeover. Security? Power savings? Bandwidth? Control? Do analog signals possibly interfere with some military communications? Or does a digital signal allow big brother a more complete and direct control of all the news and programs we may recieve? Just really curious about this and any responses or discussion would be appreciated.

  • How can the supreme court still need to decide on the right to keep and bare arms ?

with the recent washington d.c. case possibly coming before the court i find it hard to believe that they will do the proper, legal thing and declare gun rights both a state and individual right. The constitution makes it pretty clear, as do the individual writings of many of the framers that while the states do indeed need the right to a well organized militia, that those militias historically and today are made up of un-enlisted free individuals and that historically (both at the time the constitution was written, and today around the world) those individual brought thier own weapons to battle. All of this is particularly easy for the court to decide in this day and age as currently the federal gov. controls the states national guard units, they are only headed by an officer appointed by the individual states. Under the constitution this would make the militias arms of the federal gov. and therefor not militias. federal troops not likely to fight fed troops!

  • Put a near perfect running engine in car, now it runs poorly. Also, what type fluid in manual transmission?

I have had 4 festivas, and this is the first time that I have had to swap a motor or anything major on any of them. Took the motor out of a festiva that was ready for the grave yard due to excessive rust and just plain worn out(shocks, struts, brakes, door hinges, fuel lines, etc.) the motor in that peice of junk ran like new, smooth as can be and no oil burning. Now, in the new body, it runs poorly. I don't have the exhaust hooked up yet, but otherwise everything is the same. Any ideas?

  • I was wondering why the terrorists from 911 went to flight schools in the United States?

With so many nations with schools similiar to ours, why would they risk exposing themselves to the scrutiny of the very country they planned to attack. My personal guess is that they would be found out in countries with less stringent laws than ours and put summarily to death.

  • why do so many people insist that we are in Iraq for the oil?

With all of the various cultural, moral, political reasons we could find to be in Iraq a large number of people instantly answer oil when as what we are there for. How about some supporting information? I mean, if oil was the main reason we were there I believe that the United states would find it much cheaper to just commit to all out war and destroy the country of Iraq in less than 6 months. If oil was the real reason, which really means that money is the real reason, then politics wouldn't matter very much and therefor we would not hold back in applying our military might in a manner that is better suited to than the current manner it is being used. I don't have all that much faith in our politicians, but still I just can't fall for what appears to be a childish, simplistic response to the issue of the war on terrorism.

  • why do we still have/allow regular tv sets to be sold in america?

we live in a country that mandate what emmissions are allowed to power producers and scrap yard and sewage treatment plants and such. Yet we still buy tv's that take far more material to build, cost the manufacturer more, and create a larger amount of waste at both the manufacturing and post consumer stages. Why do we not outlaw the manufacture and importation of any further models of these. The smoke from all the poor idiots still smoking cigs will dissapate, but that giant landfill of crap you find your new house built on will create problem now and well into the future.

  • purchased dis. ins. on mortgage and was then diagnosed with cancer, how to get them to cover?

shortly after purchasing disability ins. i was diagnosed with testicular and lymphatic cancer that was very aggressive. while in chemotherapy I contacted the insurance co. to claim. I was totally involved in staying alive long enough to beat this cancer and was obviously seriously unable to keep track of finances and such. My wife did not realize this was one of the few things we had any coverage for and therefor did not deal with it. It has been almost two years and i just recently realized we had not recieved any benifits from this insurance during my year long fight with cancer. what can i do to get them to pay? The insurance was purchased with the mortgage and I thought that even though the claim is made that the insurance is a seperate issue the mortgage company is the legal servicer of all matters on the mortgage, such as ins. taxes if there is an escrow acct. etc.?
