Do police need to find the body to prosecute for murder?
This is probably a dumb question, but I'm writing a movie and wasn't sure how this works. In this scenario, the killer is seen assaulting the victim and driving off with her against her will. He's found the next day with lots of her blood on his clothes, but they don't find the body and have no other evidence suggesting she's dead, except that she can't be found.
Would they try to prosecute him for murder right away, or would they at least wait some amount of time before going for the murder charge? I'd prefer the immediate murder charge, but won't do it if it's unrealistic.
4 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoHow long are you hospitalized after a coma?
I'm writing a movie in which a guy is beat up really badly and goes into a coma for two months. What's the shortest reasonable time they'd let him leave the hospital, assuming he seems ok otherwise? Like two days, or more like two weeks or something?
I'd like it to be as short as possible, but don't want it to seem unrealistic.
1 AnswerInjuries1 decade agoHow do I convince my kitten to poop outside?
I love her a lot. I don't want to kill her or nothing. I just want her to stop pooping in the litterbox and start pooping outside, now that she's old enough. She goes outside all the time, but keeps coming inside to poop and it really stinks. Help!
P.S. Yes, we've tried removing the litterbox. She just poops on the floor where the litterbox used to be. Not a good solution.

6 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoAre shotgun blasts traceable?
I'm writing a movie and need to know if the police could somehow trace a shotgun blast back to the shooter and/or weapon. I would assume not, but know nothing about guns, so any help would be nice. I want realism.
And if it helps, I'm thinking it's some sort of sawed-off shotgun or something, just because they look cooler that way. And if it makes a difference, things being hit could be vehicles, people, etc. Thanks.

8 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoCan you explain to me why my computer works in safe mode but freezes in regular mode shortly after XP starts?
Hint: I think it has something to do with the time my heatsink got clogged with lint and my computer got too hot. And yes, it's a Toshiba Satellite laptop.
2 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks1 decade agoShould I toss out my broken blender?
I've had a $40 blender for several years now that I really like, but I think I burned out the motor when it was having trouble with some ice cubes (no margaritas for me). I smelled a slight burning smell and then it just stopped working completely. Is there any reason to keep it, like getting it repaired? Or should I just throw it away?
18 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoI'm filming a movie at my house that I'd like one day to see in a cinema: Do I want to use 16:9?
My brother says we should film in the 16:9 setting on our fancy Sony camera, while I say we should film in the "Letterbox" setting. Last time we used 16:9 in a movie for a short film festival and the movie looked squished up on my computer and looked squished up at the theater. But my brother says that it was because the guy running the equipment was an idiot and that we were supposed to do it in 16:9. I say Letterbox. Who's right?

I've got a great idea for a daily inspirational calendar that's so good I won't even tell you what it is, but don't know how to go about to get it published. Any ideas?
2 AnswersBooks & Authors1 decade agoWii Question: Mario Olympics or Super Smash Brothers Brawl?
I'm giving my daughter a Wii tomorrow for her 7th birthday and she wants Mariokart, but I can't find it anywhere. I'm going to go looking for it tomorrow, but if they can't find it before the party, which game should I get her instead? She really liked Super Smash Brothers Melee on the Gamecube and also asked for Brawl, but I thought Mario Olympics looked more fun. Any other suggestions would be nice.
And shhhhh, don't tell her I bought her a Wii. It's still a secret.
And yes, I'm planning to play it more than she will.

21 AnswersOther - Food & Drink1 decade agoWhat exactly is the state of welfare, as we know it?
I'm writing a blogpost on welfare, but really came up short in figuring out exactly what welfare is these days. I know about food stamps, Medicaid, TANF, and that kind of thing, but wanted to know if there was still straight-up "welfare" like what used to exist back in the day. I tried doing some research, but guess I came up short because I couldn't find any straight-up "welfare" program that gave unemployed people enough cash to live on. Or is TANF the only real welfare left? I'm confused.
One reason I ask is because I recently read a prominent conservative railing about how the "working poor" make as much as people on welfare, but couldn't find a welfare program that paid that much.
