How can I graph the trajectory of an object that is launched from the surface of the Earth at escape velocity?
I know the Earth's escape velocity and I can calculate the acceleration due to gravity at any height above the Earth. Now, I would like to graph the position, velocity, and acceleration of a launched object over time.
I could use standard equations to find the height of the object after a certain amount of time, but my problem is different, because the acceleration due to gravity decreases as the height increases.
I would really like to know if there is a way to take into account the change in gravity when making a position-time graph, no matter what the initial velocity is.

I don't think I made this up, but I couldn't find the exact wording or the author online. Does anyone know of a quote like this?

"Trust the man who searches for answers, not the man who claims to have them."
I don't know the exact wording and I couldn't find the quote online.

5 AnswersPhotography1 decade agoHow can I prove that this function is differentiable at x = 1?
It's a piecewise polynomial function:
f(x) = x^2 + 1 if x <= 1 and
f(x) = 2x if x > 1
It's a parabola that turns into a line. It doesn't have any gaps or corners. The limit of f(x) as x approaches 1 is 2, and the limit of f'(x) as x approaches 1 is 2.
This was a problem on a test, but I my calculus teacher took points off because she says that the function is not differentiable at x = 1. I need to formally prove that this function is differentiable at x = 1, so I can get those points back.
Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoCan a piecewise function be continuously differentiable?
Here's a specific example:
f(x) = x^2 if x <= 1 and
f(x) = 2x if x > 1
It's a parabola that turns into a line. It doesn't have any gaps or visible corners. The limit of f(x) as x approaches 1 is 2, and the limit of f'(x) as x approaches 1 is 2. But my calculus teacher says there's a corner at x = 1, and that piecewise polynomials always form a corner.

6 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoIs there a problem with the YouTube player?
I uploaded this video today, but when I watch it, it stops playing before the end, at 35 out of 37 seconds. So the share and replay buttons and the related videos don't pop up. Does this happen when you watch it on your computer? Here's the video:

5 AnswersInternet1 decade agoWhy can't I log in to YouTube?
I just signed up for YouTube, got the confirmation email, clicked the link in the email, and it just took me to the login screen. There, I type in my username and password, but it says that that username doesn't exist. I try to sign up again and it says that that username is taken! I can't get in!
I did log out of youtube before I opened the confirmation email, and this could have messed it up, but there has to be a way to log in anyway, right? I don;t want to have to make another account.

After doing some research, I am almost certain that I have dry-socket where my wisdom tooth was removed a week ago. I will visit to the oral surgeon tomorrow, but I'd like to know now whether there will be any lasting/permanent effects from dry-socket and not treating it sooner.
