  • in near to sub-zero temperatures why does your tongue stick to a metallic object?

Im serious. Though it has never happened to me I am led to believe it has happened to others. I'm sure it has something to do with sudden temperature changes but would love to know the scientific explanation. While I am at it would a fillet of chicken at body temperature do the same? If not, why?

Thanks in advance for all answers and a rude finger gesture to those who choose to abuse...

I mean looking at something whilst walking down the street, all of a sudden, bang!

  • What is the difference between a frog and a toad?

Yeah, I know frogs are meant to be prettier than toads, but is there a scientific background to this delineation between two very similar species? Does it have something to do with their place of residence ie. amphibious or non-amphibious, or is it a moniker (namely the toad) borne from folklore, as in toads are 'evil' and used by witches, warlocks and the like.

  • Has anyone used Zyban or Champix to quit smoking?

If so, what sort of side-effects did you have? I have looked at a few forums already but find many of them are out of date, so I figured if anyone on y!a has taken it recently or has commenced taking it I would like to get your opinions on

    a) it's efficacy;

    b) it's side effects; and

    c) whether these side effects outweighed the benefits of being on a strong medication to give up an evil habit.

I am determined to become a non-smoker as I hate to be bound by addiction. I hate cigarettes and everything they stand for.

    Thanks for your consideration...

  • What happened to the dish and the spoon?

You know 'hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle....'. I believe the dish ran away with the spoon in the end. Where did they run to? Where are they now? Why did they run away? These questions have been vexing me since childhood.

  • Why oh why did I do that for?

Why in blue blazes did I consume that for?

I mean, yes, I was hungry and yes the pizza did look oh so inviting as did those chips. So what do I go and do? Hmm? Bung it in the oven and then devour it like some ravenous supermodel coming off a 'no food' bender.

The long way round to a question, but it is thus: when was the last time you went postal on something unhealthy and then regretted it?

  • What in god's name is 'queefing'?

I swear I have never heard of the term and know it has something to do with sex. I thought I knew it all but this one has me puzzled. Please humour me, I need to know this haha

  • Have you thought about dump trucks lately?

I mean they don't really carry dumps around do they? They just carry dirt and old rocks . Is it because they dump their contents and hence the name 'dump' came about? I don't know, I am terribly confused.

  • Do you like witty insults? Read on...?

I mean anyone, especially here, can blurt out an insult that denotes their bottom feeding, mouth breathing status and I have copped a few.

But I do relish in those insults or comebacks that knock your socks off with brilliance. Do you have any faves?

    Mine include:

-I can tell you are lying; your lips are moving

    - He made enemies as naturally as soap makes suds

    - She's been on more laps than a napkin - Walter Winchell

    - He had double chins all the way down to his stomache - Mark Twain

I'm going up there in a few weeks and would like some info on some good centrally located motels, maybe around Potts Point, Glebe etc. All answers get a point, thanks

  • What makes you wetter?

Running in the rain or walking briskly? Some argue that by running you expose yourself to more drops than you would by just walking. What is your opinion on this?

  • How many times a week do you 'inspect' yourself?

Not the full manual inspection with serious intent, just looking down there and pondering, thinking, hmmm...I wonder if I....?

  • How did superheroes go to the toilet?

I mean with all those costumery on them, like body suits, outside undies and the like. It would be quite traumatic especially if they had a case of the trots wouldn't it? Maybe they wore adult nappies? Any ideas?

  • Has anyone else noticed this form of sentence structure?

A lot of questions here will begin as statements such as 'So...this girl' or 'So...anyway I was...'.To a lesser extent they begin with 'Well...' or 'Ok...'. Am I noticing a change in the way the sentences, specifically questions are posed on YA?

I have never heard this before. Maybe it is a cultural difference. Maybe it's an age thing.

I am a bit of a language vulture and enjoy looking at how words are put together, so to use a term like 'So..' before a question assumes that we are all familiar with the writer's situation. We are not. Any thoughts?

  • Is it a case of the harder the better?

Oh, do get you mind out of the gutter haha. I am talking x-words. I love them and enjoy the challenge of doing those weekend ones that have a gazillion general knowledge q's.

The question really should be would you rather an easier one whereby you know that you can complete it or a harder one that really challenges you?

I'm am in the latter camp on this one I think
