  • can you wash thin knit sweaters in the washer?

the washer has a handwash setting, with extra slow agitation and slow spin cycle. i've seen wash bags in the supermarket and the labels say you have to put delicates and knit sweaters in them before throwing it in the washer. any experience you've had with this situation will be much appreciated. thanks! • If I always use cold water for laundry, what is the least number of loads I can separate colored clothes into?

I know darks and lights are the general distinctions, but colors don't really fall neatly into those two.

    I'm thinking about three piles:

    1) Reds, oranges, and pinks.

    2) Yellows, Greens, Light Blues, Lavenders, Grays.

    3) Royal to Dark Blues, Purples, Blacks.

Is there a way I can have just two piles?

Or can I even put all the colored clothes together? I only use cold water and the gentle cycle of the machine, so that's the most I can do to prevent bleeding, right? None of the clothes are new. I also put vinegar into the final rinse so I don't use fabric softener sheets in the dryer.

  • If I always use cold water for laundry, do I still have to separate whites from coloreds?

I've been reading up online on how to do laundry, and these are the things I've learned:

Hot/warm water is not necessary to kill germs/bacteria. The detergent will do that already. Hot/warm water will increase solubility, but if you use the recommended amount of liquid detergent (or less) and ensure that it dissolves completely before adding the clothes, again it's no longer necessary.

Therefore, since cold water won't make colors bleed together, can I just wash all my clothes together in one load? So I can wash everything together once a week and not have to wait for enough darks to do a separate load.

  • should i get a touchscreen phone or one with a qwerty keypad?

i'm looking to get a new cellphone, but i'm not really a techie and there are now so many to choose from. first of all, i don't know whether i should get a touchscreen phone or a qwerty. i've been using my old nokia phone with a number keypad for so long so i'll have to adjust either way.

i would like a phone that can do email, yahoo messenger, facebook, and net searching capablities so i can look up dictionary words online. a dictionary app would be even better.

i don't mind a crappy camera, but i do want to use the phone as a movie player and mp3 player, so i guess a relatively large memory is in order.

    suggestions, anyone?

  • What does the Italian expression "A riguardar" mean in English?

In the song "Funiculi, funicula," there's a lyric that goes, "E non ti corre appresso e non ti struggi, A riguardar."

I've figured out that the first part means, "And it doesn’t chase you and doesn’t destroy you," but online sites translate "A riguardar" as "about it" or "in regard," but they don't really make sense with the previous line.

  • Is the German word "blass" related to the French word "blasé"?

Do they have the same root word in an older language?
