  • Does my heat pump have a problem?

I just bought a house with an older heat pump and was checking the heat portion of it and was concerned about how hot the air temp in the plenum was getting to. With the heat pump on (no heat strips) the temp in the plenum was getting to 140 degrees Fahrenheit and at the vents in various rooms it was at 120 degrees. Is this normal? What is the max temp I should see for fire safety concerns in the plenum before I call someone? Outside temp was 69 degrees...........

  • 47" TOSHIBA LCD TV SCREEN PROBLEM?

I have a 47" Toshiba LCD screen TV in my bedroom that has developed some sort of screen problem. Its about 4 years old and up til recently has had no problems. The TV works fine with the exception of a wavy shadow that is about the area of the screen where the different screen formats would meet.

What I mean by this is on cable the screen format might be normal and the TV will black out the unused portion of the screen, but while watching some dvds the whole screen will be used. Where this black out area would be is where this problem approximately runs. When the whole screen is in use the center part of the screen is slightly darker shading while the outside part of the screen is the lighter shading. The two meet around the format line in an uneven wavy spot that seems to follow that format zone line. The problem is not screen burn, it is there from the moment the TV gets turned on (cold) and does not get worse as the TV is used and heats up. It has been on ups surge protection since first in operation 4 years ago. The problem is there and the same no matter what video input is used, RCA, HDMI, S video, PC in, still there. Has anyone have any experience with this problem or the possible cause?????? Thanks for your input

  • Can you make a 220 volt motor run on 120 volt?

I have retrieved a blower motor out of an old air handler. the motor is specked to run on 208/230. I would like to have it operate on 120 volt if possible. Is there a way to do that successfully without a step up transformer? If so how would I do that.

I have already wired it using the motor common as a neutral and the hot leg to the High speed leg and it spins but slowly.

  • Aluminum branch wiring/ AFCI's?

I'm aware that aluminum branch wiring has got a bad rep because of bad connection and the possibility of those bad connections causing fires. would AFCI's be a good defense against those bad connections if placed on aluminum receptacle/lighting branch circuits? I also heard about load testing circuits. What is that process all about and how is it done typically? Thank you for your input......

  • Does the "Raid Fummigator" leave an odor on things in the room in which its used?

We have an outside storage building "climate controlled" in which some bugs got into. We have treated the perimeter and spots inside and believe the problem is taken care of but were thinking of using the Raid Fummigator inside just to make sure. We have unopened toys and other products inside of the building and want to know if after the fumigator does its job if everything inside will smell like the fummigator. Or if there will be no noticeable effects on the products afterwards. The products are either hard plastic or in boxes or rubber.... Thanks for any advise.............

  • HELP!!!! xp security tool virus. How do I remove?

My wife picked up the " Xp security tool virus" on her computer last night. Before she did anything she came to me and I recognized that it looked fake so no steps were taken on our part so no files that I know of were deleted. The internet connection was disconnected immediately after the virus surfaced. I rather not wipe and reformat the drive and reload the OS if there is a free or inexpensive alternative for removal. Any ideas? The computer will reboot and I do have access to safe mode and bios. I also have access to the internet via other computers for downloads......

  • Problem loading OS onto computer "Memory overflow error"?

the computer had windows xp pro before and loaded fine but was not my computer originally. I reformatted the hard drive externally with another computer like I have done with other computers and reinstalled it in the computer. I set the bios to boot from CDROM and first came up with a "NTLDR is missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del for restart" error where the cdrom drive doesn't seem to work correctly (I Guess). I put in a USB external DVD rewritable drive and set the bios to boot from that drive and it does but now its got another problem. Now it comes up with a memory overflow error and then goes back to the ntldr missing. Does anyone have any ideas whats going on and how to fix it..............

  • Electrical service for spa?

I have an existing spa that uses a double pole 50 amp GFCI breaker in which runs to an outside disconnect in which is only for a local means to disconnect power for servicing. The new spa in which is going to replace the current spa calls for a service of two pole 50 amp breaker ( non GFCI) to feed a sub panel and then off the sub panel come off with a double pole 20 amp gfci and a double pole 30 amp gfci to feed the two points in the new spa. My question is: can I put a sub panel downstream from the existing double pole 50 amp gfci with a double pole 20 and 30 amp regular branch service breakers in for the proper circuit rating but still have the GFCI protection as called for? It seems to be the same type of setup they want but merely reversing its location of the GFCI. The existing spa service is 6awg strandand copper and has 2 hots, neutral and a ground and runs only 75 ft from main panel.

  • 2001 chevy 1500 rear brakes dragging ?help?

I have a 2001 chevy 1500 2wd pickup with rear disc brakes. For some reason both rear calipers will not fully release and drag. The truck was fine at one point and then the other day it started dragging. Here's what I know. It appears to be isolated to the rear caliper brakes only and is not related to the separate parking brake malfunctioning. The clamping force on the rotors is minor allowing me to rotate the rotor using bare hands but requires a lot of force. The grab is about equal on both sides. Caliper parts seem to be free moving with no binding. It does have vacuum assist anti lock brakes. Any ideas???
