  • DOGS LEFT IN CARS? OPINIONS NEEDED?

I take my dogs on quick errands, like running into dunk's for a to-go coffee. I have a remote starter, so my dogs are in air conditioned comfort while I'm away from the car. Usually I am back in under 5 minutes from any given task.

Here is my question- my car doesnt make much noise while running, and i worry people will think there are dogs left in a hot car... should i make a note "AC IS ON" and stick it on the window? something else? or do nothing different?

  • Why do I constantly hum?

I realize I am humming a lot of the time. It is always either Yellow Submarine or the Superman theme song. It hasn't bothered me so much until last weekend.

I was at a party and everyone stopped and looked at me. I said what? They said, we thought you were talking... you were making humming sounds.

This was the first time I became aware the humming occurs even if I am not conscious of it. I was embarrassed to be making odd noises during others conversation - to the point they stopped talking and looked at me.

Does anyone else have this issue? What is it? How can I stop it?

  • Punctuation in this sentence?

"Whether it is your entire website or a single email to a customer, every interaction represents you, your company and your creditability".

My question is regarding the first comma. Should that be a semi-colon or no because of "whether"?

Also, where does - fit in? I am trying to curb my use of - to fill in for every pause in the sentence. I'd love to stick one right in there though. "...customer - every interaction..."

Is - ever proper properly used in this manner or is it grammar-slang?

  • is there a word or term for "muchausen by proxy" that doesnt include actively sickening a person?

I have been out of my mothers house for 25 years. She moved 1500 miles away 20 years ago. She was an alcoholic and drug addict and got sober 15 years ago.

She keeps pushing for me to move in with her and attend a 12 step 30 day recovery program. Note - I have never, nor have I now, any substance abuse issues whatsoever. I dont even drink. The people in my daily life agree she is insane.

She needs me to be a broken, desparate, incapable patient that she can make a big show of nursing back to health,

What is she doing to me?

"Your mind is all over the place."

"If you continue to deny you do not need a behavior modification program in a healthy stress free environment, with your family supporting your recovery your risking your own health and causing unnecessary and unacceptable stress. I can't compete with high levels of stress anymore, it jeopardizes my health. Period. We all have lives and responsibilities to our own health concerns manage that are just as important as yours."

    .

"To ignore the reason your family believes the time had come for relocation with the intention to get you better is unacceptable to me."

  • is there a word for knowledge increasing from one generation to the next?

Im thinking there has to be a word, or phrase, that encapsulates the process of building knowledge over time as a species.

  • What is that noise eminating from my speakers?!?!?!?

I have a pair of speakers that are plugged into the wall, but not any other device. I plug them into my PC but have not done so for weeks.

6-8 times per hour, and only during the day, this zapping staticey noise comes through the speakers for 2 to 3 seconds and appears to be random (not at exact set intervals). I can't find a relation to anything - like a cell phone, or something metal getting too close to the speaker...

Since they are only plugged in, I hypothesized that perhaps the noise if from uneven electricity supply. As time wore on, I wondered if aliens were trying to make contact. Now I'm contemplating the possibility of Extremely Low Frequency weapons... but, I'm just not interesting enough to be a target for covert government attacks.

    What the heck is happening?

  • What is the current counterculture?

The culture/counter culture lines were clearly drawn in the sixties. It seems a counterculture movement always exists, like in the 20s they had the flappers... or during prohibition they had the bootleggers. In the 80s it was gangsta rap and hip hop. What about now? What is todays counterculture?

  • Why is Jesus associated to the right?

Jesus was a liberal. Give to the poor, clothe the needy, feed the hungry. Liberal values. Only a liberal would take his 2 measly fish and share it with 5000 people because they were hungry.

A Republican would blame them for starving, then condescendingly exclaim "This is MY fish! I caught it! It is MINE! YOU are just LAZY!! If you are hungry, go get your own fish!"

Why are so many Jesus followers Republican?

  • How do amino acids become life?

I wondering how amino acids become life. I saw Steven Hawkings discuss his theories, and briefly it was mentioned that from amino acids came the first life forms, single cell organisms.

    1. How did amino acids turn into life?

    2. Can we recreate this in a lab?

    Thank you for your insights!!

  • What is this all about?

He agrees to manage the bills for a while. By 'manage' I do not mean 'pay. ' The income sources stay the same, but he takes over managing the monthly responsibility of paying the bills. "You just have to tell me what to pay when." he says.

"Well, isn't managing the bills basically keeping track of 'what to pay when'?"

Weeks later, I asked him to pay the water and cable bill. Here's how that went:

I will give you money tomorrow.

    >Can you just pay them directly?

The water bill is no problem. I have set up in my account. You just need to tell me how much it is.

    >237.00.

For the cable bill, I need the amount, account number, and mailing address. OK. And remind me tomorrow to do it, OK? Send me a text when I am at work. You have to remind me. So, Just find that information and leave it for me right on the coffee table, where I will see it in the morning. Then remind me tomorrow.

Is this the best I can expect? How to I get him to understand the position does not come with an assistant? =)

  • How did you arrive at Atheism as your (non) belief system?

**This is Round 2 of the same question. For the 11 of you Round 1'ers that responded thoughtfully and thoroughly, thank you!! Your answers were very informative and appreciated.**

Please everyone, be nice, respectful, insightful, and intelligent with your answers.

USA specific but all are welcome

As is common in the US, many of us grow up in a religious household. Some went to church. A large portion of which did nothing but go through the motions and routines... then led an otherwise crooked life. My friends MeeMaw had an 8x10 3D Jesus hanging on the bathroom door. A smaller, yet far more disturbing, framed holographic Jesus was prominently displayed among the spattering of family photos. Holographic Jesus had devious holographic Jesus eyes that would track your every movement. Regardless of which way you bobbed or weaved, zigged or zagged, Holographic Jesus with the devil eyes made certain you knew you were being watched.

Anyway, I digress. I suspect far fewer grew up in an Aatheist household. More will be in future generations, but they are not here yet beyond single digit percentage numbers.

I am very interested in learning about your background.

    Where did you grow up?

    What religion, if any?

If no religion, any spiritual references?

Did you explore religions on your own?

How old were you when you felt settled and satisfied with atheism being the answer?

    How old are you now?

Thank you SO much for your time!!

  • How do I make my Yahoo! Mail inbox display emails from contacts only?

In Yahoo Classics there was a button at the top of my in-box "From Contacts" which I could select to show only emails from people on my contact list.

I cant find it in the new version. I have searched high and low, through every menu and help tool.

  • Atheists, Christians, and Muslims... oh my!?

Perhaps it is just my perception, but I've noticed a distinct trend here in YA R&S. Atheists are routinely nasty and condescending, where believers of whatever religion tend to be more kind and patient. Am I wrong?

  • Voting for Obama? Why?

One rule - You cannot mention what you don't like about Mitt

Here is why I am voting for Obama:

Passed the broadest middle-class tax cut in history

    Withdrew troops from Iraq

Bil Laden killed during Obama's administration

    Staved off an economic collapse

    Saved the American Auto Industry

Reformed Health Care to the great benefit of American citizens

  • Voting for Romney? Why?

As an independent, I am interested in learning more about Romney. It seems as if his unofficial campaign slogan is "I am not Obama." I hear Obama's economic policy is bad, but I don't hear about Romneys proposed economic plan. I hear "Obamacare is bad" and in the same breath he vows to offer the same benefits, but stops short of explaining how it would be paid for.

Kindly explain some key points on why the vote should go to Romney, without basing any point on "Obama is bad." I'm trying to get past the rhetoric and understand the facts.

    Thank you so much!
