  • Authorized for a credit check at time of application, can my landlord run a second one?

I am in the process of trying to find a new apartment, and as part of that process I have pulled my credit report recently. While reviewing the credit report, I found that my landlord had checked my credit twice for the apartment, once around the time the lease began, and again at about the six month mark. I have sent notice to the credit bureau that this needs to be removed as I believe it to be unauthorized. My question is two fold: 1) Are they able to run a credit check at random while I live at the apartment? The agreement on the application is that they were allowed to run a background check in order to verify information on the application. 2) If they were not authorized, is this legal and/or does it cause the lease to break? This is in the state of Tennessee, and I'm mainly looking to be armed with information before I approach them about it. Thanks in advance for any answers.

  • What does this mean on my lease?

I was reviewing my lease because I'm planning on moving once the lease term is up at the beginning of November. Something I noticed that I found a bit odd was a line that stated:

"If Tenant wishes to vacate premises at expiration of the original lease term, Tenant must give Landlord a written thirty (30) day notice prior to vacating premises. If no notice is given, Tenancy is deemed to be month to month and the new rent shall be $ [written in]N/A"

Of course, I understand the first part about 30 days notice, but how should I interpret the written in portion that states that the new rent will be unavailable? I'm primarily trying to figure out, if I can't find a satisfactory place in time to move before the lease ends, what my options would be going forward from that point, but I'm at a loss as to how to continue with this given information.

  • Just getting over the flu. Recommend a way to get over the fatigue?

I've had the flu for the past few days, and I'm just now getting over it. I feel mostly fine other than a lingering cough and the general fatigue that comes with fighting off a disease that saps you this badly. The only problem is that I need to return to work on Monday, and I do semi-strenuous, physical labor as a job (repeated lifting above, below, and at waist level, up to and exceeding 50lbs, etc) and I need to figure out some way to get over the fatigue as best I can in a day or two. My supervisors aren't slave drivers, so I expect them to understand for the most part, but I would like to be able to at least pull my own weight even if I'm not completely back up to speed by that point. That said, can anyone recommend a multivitamin, herb, etc that will help my body recuperate more efficiently so that I'll be able to work in a few days?

    Additional Info:

Male, mid-20s, decent physical condition but not ideal, around 6'1" and 185 lbs

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

  • What purpose do complex numbers serve in applied mathematics?

This is more of a curiosity question than anything, but I was wondering what "real world" purpose complex numbers serve? I know that the constant i = √-1, but I've been trying to determine what the purpose is in dealing with these numbers outside of abstract mathematics. This one in particular is perplexing me since I can understand where most other maths can be applied either directly or indirectly, so I was hoping someone could shed some light on this topic for me.

And yes, I do pick best answers, so the person who describes it best gets 10 points.

  • Why do religious people look down on Atheists?

I know I troll here quite a bit, but I promise, this is an honest question.

A quick note before I begin, most of my personal observations are based on Christians since I live in the bible belt, but I'm looking for answers from all religions. Also, I'm not asking about anything that happens on this site for obvious reasons.

As an Atheist, I have faced some fairly extreme persecution for my beliefs, even people going so far as to spit on me and call me a worthless human being. So I would like to know why the hostility exists? As far as I know, there's never been a crime committed in the name of Atheism (and if there has, what difference would it make unless you're creating a double standard) and the majority of us are doing nothing that causes harm to any of our fellow humans. Are we hated so much just because we ask questions of reality and prefer facts to faith? Or is there some deeper reasoning as to why Atheists are typically cast out by the religious people of the world and treated as "unclean" and "not fit to live?"

It seems like we're the last group of people that its okay to be prejudiced towards, so what I would like to know is, why is it okay? We're humans just like you, so why is it that Atheists are treated even worse than people of different religions. I've never seen a Christian walk up to a Buddhist and slap them, calling them a threat to society, or a person of Jewish faith telling a Taoist that they don't deserve to live, so why do people do this to Atheists?

  • What could be causing these sharp pains?

I'm a little concerned about these pains, but not enough to call a doctor just yet, so I just want some idea as to what could be causing them.

Currently I'm experiencing sharp pains around my bottom two or three ribs on my right front side of my chest. The pains remind me of when I had broken my hand, except there hasn't been any trauma to my rib cage recently and there's no dull aching between the stabs like I had in my hand. They were sudden onset and are slowly waning, but they were about a 7.5 - 8/10 on the pain scale so I'm trying to decide if I should go to the urgent care clinic tomorrow to have them checked out.

    Any opinions greatly appreciated.

  • If a voice in your head told you to kill your son, would you?

I ask this as a semi-serious question. If you had a delusion, that you heard a voice thought to be from God (whoever your personal god is, irrelevant to the question really) that told you to kill your son, would you do it? I don't ask this in a mocking sense, but rather to find out exactly how deep people's faith goes.

  • Can I bar registered sex offenders and convicted felons from joining?

I'm trying to get a social group started in my local town, and an interesting question came up during one of our planning discussions tonight. As it stands, our by-laws allow anyone aged 14 and up to join, provided that any minor has parental consent. Due to this, I know that many parents would pull their children out if they knew we allowed felons or sex offenders to join this group, so is it legal to bar these people from joining?

  • Plumbing Question: Slip joint without washer?

I just had a massive leak under my kitchen sink out of nowhere, called my landlord and reported it and turned off the water to the sink. Upon further inspection, I noticed that a slip joint connected to the garbage disposal had fallen off. When I looked at the slip joint, there is a nut at the top of the pipe, but no tapered washer like you would normally see. Is this normal? I would think it a bit odd, but I'm not a plumber by any means, so I wanted a second opinion.
