  • Disclosing a juvenile felony on application?

My son is a young adult, 19-years-old, and has been looking for work; he has a felony charge on his juvenile record for a crime committed when he was 16.

I have asked his former parole officer, sheriff’s detectives and Washington State Worksource employment specialists about the section on the application that asks if you have ever been convicted of a crime, if he can leave it blank since he was a juvenile at the time, ALL of them responded; ‘I don’t know the answer to that’…

So, does anyone know what the correct answer is?

Listing on the applications that he has a felony is definitely hampering his job search.

  • Windows 7 and IE8 Taskbar buttons swapping places?

I’m having an irritating problem; I recently wiped my HD and loaded Windows 7.

    I also use IE8.

Ever since, on both windows and IE, the window tabs on the taskbar keep shuffling randomly, switching places with each other, almost like; "who can be first in line".

It’s become a pain in the butt and annoying as all get out!

I do have the taskbar locked.

What’s caused this and what can I do to stop it?

    Thanks

  • Anyone know about the eBay Stealth book?

Has anyone used or heard anything about eBay Stealth? Its supposed to be able to show you hw to get yourself back on eBay and PayPal after being suspended.

    http://www.auctionstealth.com/

A year ago, I had a business account that got hacked and abused and subsequently suspended by eBay and PayPal.

No bit of pleading with them has gotten my accounts reinstated, even after providing proof that I was indeed a victim too!

    Thanks

  • Help choosing a Reflector Telescope?

Can someone recommend a decent intermediate/advanced Reflector Telescope?

When I was a kid to young teen I had a refractor telescope that an aunt and uncle gave me, and it really got me into looking at the stars! Living in the country, I’d be outside in the summertime from after dinner until well after midnight trying to follow star charts and I loved it!

But as most people know, a refractor style is sometimes awkward to use, especially with a short tripod balanced in a small table in the lawn, Lol…

Now 20+ years later, I’d really like to get my kids into it.

So much has changed in stargazing equipment its almost mind boggling to choose a good Reflector style, with all of the sizes, powers, motorized and non-motorized… etc.

Like I said, I’d like an Intermediate to Advanced Reflector style, and looking to spend under $500.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  • PayPal withholding funds, wtf?

    Someone please explain this…

On a new PayPal account, my understanding is that after I’m paid for an auction, my account is in limbo, and I must ship the item with conformation and then receive positive feedback from the buyer/receiver to get my money released OR wait 21 days for the money to be released anyways.

So my question is; if I choose to send the item and wait for the buyer to act, or I choose not send, contact and explain to the buyer, which nevertheless inevitably pisses off the buyer, causing them to leave me negative feedback… after 21 days, do I still get my money?

  • Scammed on eBay, what to do realistically?

For the first time in over 500 transactions, I fell victim to a scam/fraud.

I won an eBay auction which was for a piece of equipment for craft making, etc.

The seller had a low feedback score, but everything on the item looked legit, so I outbid some others and won, it was just over $250 and I paid with PayPal… Two weeks went by, no item; no response to emails from the seller, and now his PayPal account is closed.

Can’t PayPal go after him/them or track his ISP or something?

And why is PayPal so slow to respond to me and vague when they do respond?

  • Forensic autopsy photos?

Don’t get all weird on me now!

I’m writing a paper for a college forensic class on crime scenes and crime autopsies.

One thing I can’t find are photos of autopsies both 20th century and present.

Google and Yahoo images provides little or limited examples.

Anyone know where to find them?

    Thanks!

  • Drying bird skins, wings and tails?

I raise Pheasants and Quail and I want to start drying the skins, wings and tails for fly tying materials.

I’ve dried hundreds of rabbit skins over the years, using the basic Borax tan for using the skins as material, but the bird skins I’ve heard are a different story.

One method I heard was submersing the skin in saltwater brine for a few weeks, then washing with Woolite and let dry.

Also a method for wings and butts was to Borax heavily and then place in a paper bag until dry (I want to keep the tails attached rather than having loose feathers around that can easily get damaged).

    Any ideas or proven methods?

    Thanks

  • Can I clean Activated Charcoal?

I’m using Activated Carbon (charcoal) to get rid of a horrible fish smell in my freezer.

I spread it on a cookie sheet and then into the freezer by itself about a week ago,

Since then it has done wonders! The smell has been reduced by at least 2/3.

Picking up a handful of the carbon, it certainly has been doing its job by sucking up the fish smell!

So, question is, can I clean the carbon to help it finish the job?

If so, do I wash it with dish soap and then dry or what?

    Thanks

  • Windows Task Manager is going crazy!?

Okay, I’m running a Compaq Presario with XP Home Edition, Norton 2009 & also, SuperAntiSpyware - Free Edition.

I had some little strange things happening in the last two days, example: When I open a window, it opens and then minimizes immediately (not normal) and does this with all newly opened windows.

    * Some windows open, minimize and when you try to maximize them they won’t allow it and blink on the Taskbar about 10 times before finally allowing you to maximize them.

Task Manager is doing the same thing, but worse!

Open Task Manager, it opens in the maximized position and immediately goes to Taskbar, then continuously back and forth between Maximized window and Taskbar.

The only way to stop it is to right click and close.

I’ve run SuperAntiSpyware – cleaned everything, then afterwards ran Norton.

Nothing seemed to help and I’m not finding any obvious viruses or Trojans.

    Any suggestions would be great.

    Thanks!

  • Problem with external hard drive!?

I had an eMachine crash awhile back, so I parted it out but saved the Hard Drive for myself.

I planned on using it as an external, so I bought an USB 2.0 external case w/fan, installed the HD plugged it in and nothing happened!

The fan turns on, but no other sounds are made from the thing.

If the HD was “fried” would it just sit motionless/soundless?

How do I test it to see what the problem is?

    Thanks

  • Computer Guru’s I need your HELP!!!!?

I lost My Documents and My Pictures Folders!

I have been trying to remove WMP11 (little success).

*I have Windows XP Pro, 32bit

In my attempts, I had downloaded “Smarty Uninstaller Pro 2008” (15 day Freebie), hoping it would remove WMP11, trying the registry cleaner and other functions, etc.

And I’ll be damned! I failed to correctly save the restore file on the program.

Somewhere in all of this chaos, folders - My Documents and My Pictures and their contents disappeared!

And best of all, my System Restore had been turned off somehow and not sure when (I never turn it off!). So I have no restore point, I tried manually making one, but no good.

I desperately need those folders back!!!

I seriously dropped the ball on this one! PLEASE HELP!!!

  • Saw Blade Wandering?

I’ve been working on some projects around the house this last week, cutting lots of boards, 90% Pressboard and the rest plywood.

I’m using a 7 1/4” Craftsman circular saw, and replaced the blade just before starting.

When I am cutting out a part, say over 24” I start to get a large amount of blade wander, it actually takes a serious amount of muscle to keep it following the line.

I’m just using an Irwin 24 Tooth blade which seems to still be sharp.

    Any suggestions?

  • Child custody legal help for a disabled dad?

I am a disabled father of four in Washington State; my kids live with their mother in Utah, (we divorced here in WA, parenting plan, or what should be considered a joke of a parenting plan was also filed here in WA).

She has served me with papers to give up my parental rights so her new husband (husband #3) can adopt them as his own.

She is claiming abandonment by me along with failure to pay child support, which is false, since she knowingly receives money automatically from my monthly SSI benefits for each child, albeit its a small amount for each child, it still is what it is. Traveling to see them in Utah is difficult due to living in Washington on SSI.

We have been divorced since 5/2000 and in that time I have seen or had contact with the kids very little, although I have tried in vain, only to hit that brick wall of their mother.

I do have documented emails and such to support my efforts, about 800+

I also have strong documentation to support “Parental Alienation” on her part as well as documentation supporting the fact that she has lied on this recent petition.

So how do I find legal help? Again, I am on SSI so the money situation is tough.

Where do I look? What state, Washington or Utah?

I am desperate for help! I have only 29 days left to respond to the petition.

  • Electric dryer not heating!?

My dryer has not dried clothes efficiently in over two years (each load takes about 2 complete cycles to dry), this weekend it quit heating up altogether. I took the Heating element off and tested it, it showed good continuity using my Ohm Meter and showed no obvious signs of damage.

Next I tested the “High Limit Thermostat”, which was shown to be working fine.

The “Thermal Cut-Off Fuse” however showed no signs of life when checked with the Ohm Meter.

So I replaced it with a new “Thermal Cut-Off Kit” which included a new Thermal Cut-Off Fuse, High limit thermostat and Jumper wire, as well, (my dryer element originally did not utilize the jumper wire, so I didn’t have a need for it).

Replaced the two pieces and reinstalled the heating element, dryer backing and power…

The 110v door light works, Dryer turns on, fan blows, tumbler spins, … but no heat!

So after taking the Dryer apart again and looking deeper it almost seems that the heating element isn’t receiving any electricity.

I sat behind the dryer and ran it, while testing different items with the Analog meter, I followed the power in and then to various points, but the electrical connections at the element seem to be void of electricity.

There doesn’t really seem to be much to a dryer. Could it be the Heat selector switch?

    Any suggestions?

  • Overbearing religious practices?

Muslim countries tend to require women from other countries to cover up when visiting in the Muslim country.

I’ve heard that even American service women in Muslim countries are required to cover up when they are off base/off duty.

So Americans follow those countries wishes, so why do Muslims go ballistic in America when they are asked to uncover for certain reasons? Like when a woman was stopped by a police officer in Florida and asked to uncover her face to be identified and everyone flipped out at the audacity he had to ask her to do such a thing.

    What gives?
