  • Why does my dog get possessive of socks and shoes?

it usually only happens at night and late night. 8 pm and thereafter. basically, whenever i take off my shoes in the evenings, the dog walks up to them and protects them. she will sit in front of them and protect them like a guardian. we wouldn't even notice until we would walk by and get a surprise attack. if we try to move the shoes with our feet, the feet become enemy #1. as if they are not attached to me, her ever so loving owner. i can pick them up with my hands, no problem. i think she was kicked a lot before we had her, we got her from a no-kill animal shelter. i think it may also have to do with the fact she could be more tired at night, and gets into some sort of "mode", and kind of changes her behavior at night. i could understand what others might say about the scent of shoes, but what about the change in behavior.

she is a min pin, 2-3 yrs old, and fixed (but wasn't broken).

  • Why do my parents treat us differently?

So, me and my brother are both (young) adults. I'm 26, he's 28. Basically it goes like this...

Ever since my brother was little my parents have chosen to discipline us differently. We are both very different personality wise also. I have a very altruistic personality, married, support myself, pay rent and all the goodies, have a degree, and bought my own car.

My brother on the other hand spent half in high school tagging on the bathroom walls, kicked out, went to the "bad" high school, kicked out of there, and finished at a continuation school. Spent the little money my parents saved up for our college funds and bought a truck, which my parents co-signed, didn't pay it off. They had to in order to avoid ruining their credit. I have never had such an opportunity, i got a car loan from the bank, co-signed with grandpa, paid off early.

He has stolen many, many things from me personally. My whole CD collection when I was in high school, only about 35 or so. He even stole a pair of Nike Shox when they first came out. I spent 150$ bucks on new shoes only to have him loose one. so, i had a brand new shoe (1). he went into my room so many times that I put a deadbolt lock on my door, instead of a regular door knob, locking with a key or not. he would break in until i did that. It's like he had a need to break into my room and steal things. my parents just suggested to get a lock on my door, but not regulate on him.

Now, the latest and the greatest is that my parents moved out, i moved out, so he's got a 3 bedroom 2 bath house all to himself. a mutual freind of ours moves in. he tells our freind that my parents want to charge him rent. on the down low, they agree to 200 a month. then about 6 months go by, and he raises it to 300, then 400 plus bills. which is a decent price. but he is not the landlord and kept my parents in the dark about the whole situation. i find out whats going on and spill the beans. so, he's lied, cheated, and stole a couple of thousand dollars.

my parents say they have talked to him and everything is taken care of. they will not kick him out. so, he gets the big house that he destroys (breaking things, toilet not working, shower needs to be turned on with a swiss army knife, no locking outside doors, and no carpet in my buddy's room) gets mad a our friend, and convinces my parents to charge my freind 100 for utilites, but my brother only pays for gas and electric. so, in essence, he will pocket the change. also, the same grandpa that helped me out has given him a honda accord, and toyota truck to get around.

so I just want to know how come my parents let my brother do whatever he wants, even when it's deliberately evil over a lengthy period of time. the said they have their reasons and do not need to tell me. my thing is that how can you raise me to be such an upstanding citizen not to lie or even litter, and let him do all kinds of destructive, ill-natured, evil things? it's almost as if they are just fine with it, don't care, accept that he's a bad guy and move on. meanwhile, he continues to be a jerk to everyone.

if you don't know, can you at least point me in the direction of parental psychology.

they tell me that me and my brother are worlds apart. but how does that translate into letting a grown man do all kinds of messed up things and kind of protect him?

  • Would I get denied CA unemployment for one class?

I support myself, rent and bills. I also go to graduate school one night a week, 7pm to 945pm on Wednesdays. I just got done with the phone interview and the interviewer seemed perplexed that I would not want to drop my one class, and effectively drop out of college, to receive a job. I would feel that since it is only one night a week and later on in the night, employment should not be an issue. I have had a couple of interviews in a couple of weeks already, and would feel it would be highly extreme to deny me UI based on the fact that I have a night class.

    any thoughts?

  • What's the big deal about parking in front of somebody's house?

This is kinda long, so I apologize in advance. Hope you read it all!

My parents have never talked about it. They parked in driveway, and I mostly parked in the driveway as well. I moved out, and now I park on the street. I always considered the public street just a public street and it wasn't such a big deal. I noticed parking in front on one of my neighbors' house seems to bother him a lot. They would take up 2 spaces just so nobody could park in front. This is southern California where people can live on top of each other, and many neighborhoods are filled with cars and people. I always figured that I could park wherever I wanted to on a public street. But now, it seems to be not the case.

I have read many discussions on why people get mad. Really mad, to the point they want to hurt somebody's car. Car's are kinda expensive things, so anything that would happen to my car wouldn't be fine. I read that people like the look the way their homes look when others cars don't park in front of their cars. Does that mean they think their cars look prettier than mine? I have also read that people don't want their views blocked. I drive an Acura integra. I wash and wax it, its not ugly and not big, so I kinda don't see this applying here. I'm trying to understand this. It's a small car, so it's not like I'm blocking sunlight. And my house is in front of their house, so it's not like they have a waterfront view or anything visually awesome. It's just North Long Beach.

So, then people on the internet say why don't I just park in front my house. My answer to this is that I never really thought about it. I just park and view the street as one giant public parking lot. Never thought anything else. This house, the parking spot in question, is directly in front of my house. I figure as long as I'm walking half way down the block I don't care. It's only across the street, and to me that's basically the same as in front of your own house. I don't mean to cause any disrespect by doing this, however sometimes there's simply no place to park. I wouldn't feel anything if anybody parked in front of my house, and would even get excited if I see what I consider a "cool" car parked in what I guess would be "my" spot?. I'm a very personable and friendly person. However, this is the only person that I can seem to get those negative vibes from.

I park so others can park there and fit, and only noticed this being an issue when I realized when I wanted to park there and couldn't seem to fit, 2 spots seemed to always be taken. I would have to walk a little farther, not too far, but I felt kinda offended actually. Since I felt the street was just one giant public parking lot, I would figure that people would try to fit as many cars into the limited curb space available. Like a courtesy to others. Make sure everybody has space. Only did I read online that it appears I am the inconsiderate one for having not to care that it was in front of somebody's house.

Apparently I am really inconsiderate and rude as well. I simply don't understand this. I don't understand why they are mad. I just understand that they are mad. I think I have some decent reasonable points on my side. I'm not trying to be disruptive, but at the same time, I don't want people hassling me or messing with my car. So that's my humble argument about parking on the street wherever I care, or not care. Except now, I guess I should make more of an effort to park in front of my house. (Damn, 3 point turn!... Damn me, that's about as lazy as you can get!)

Lastly, my wife opposes to this idea but I want write them a note. Not a mean note, just one in their mail box saying that I believe I may have noticed a situation and don't want any animosity towards any of my neighbors. Give him some of the things I said here, leave my cell phone number, and hope for the best.

Let me know what you guys think, and try to give me a better understanding as to why this action is offensive to some people. Not only pissing people off, but getting really, really, mad. Never would have thought it...But, that's life, you grow up and learn about people. Sorry for the long read. :( Let's see who sticks it out and responds. lol
