  • Why don't most publishers accept electronic submissions?

I have a web portal for unpublished authors (www.mcarthurbaker.co.uk) and try as I might I cannot get agreement from publishers to accept the odd email showcasing the listings on my site, why is this so?

Do publishers have no thought for the environment or the out of pocket expense of struggling writers. Postage, particularly of heavy manuscripts, can be a costly affair - not to mention environmentally damaging.

Surely it's high time publishers woke up to the fact that email is so much quicker and cost effective?

  • I Would Just Like to Take This Opportunity?

to thank everyone on Yahoo Answers who has answered a question of mine, or has allowed me to inflict my views upon their questions during 2006. Thanks to everyone for the points.

If you chose me as best answer - many, many thanks - may all your dreams come true for 2007. If you didn't - I forgive you, but try harder in 2007.

If I offended anyone - tough.

Happy New Year to one and all (except the YA Police - who really don't deserve any happiness at all.) Best wishes for a happy, peaceful, prosperous and healthy 2007.

  • What do you think of UK busineses banning Christmas?

I've read that a lot of UK firms are banning the hanging of Christmas decorations and Christmas celebrations in general, in case they offend or upset ethnic monority staff.

This is in a country where we are constantly forced to celebrate our multicultural society - with annual 'Mela's' and festivals etc.

Just trying to guage public opinion from UK answerers - but if you have strong opinions please feel free to post them - wherever you're from.

  • How ironic is it?

that Allen Carr, the founder of the "Easyway" to quit smoking, died of lung cancer yesterday.

A portion of the blame for his contracting lung vancer was given as he spent the last twenty odd years treating smokers in clinics where everyone is encouraged to smoke until the " ritual of the final cigarette"

Should his treatment clinics now be conducted in non-smoking atmospheres to save the "Easyway" counsellors?

  • What is the most common virus which causes "Viral Gastritis"?

and how is it best treated.

I have had a seemingly endless rut of colds and chest infections since the beginning of October. Just getting better last week - phoned my boss to tell him I'd be back at work today (20th Nov) and then got an horrendous sore throat, as well as severe diarrhoea and 'bowel' cramps (not stomach) which have lasted since Friday afternoon right up to now. Haven't been sick with it, but the bowel 'pain' is excrutiating at times. Immodium didn't help. Went to doctor this morning she prescribed Mebeverine Hydrochloride and diagnosed Viral Gastritis + Diarrhoea.

Any tips to get rid quickly and which virus causes it?

  • Violation for this:?

The question was "What is Herbicide?"

Other answers included such gems as "When a herb kills itself"

My answer - "Death by Parsley?"

Mine was deleted and I got a violation (-12 points) What is wrong with Yahoo?

Do some people just not have a sense of humour? Even if I found an answer (to a serious question) where someone had tried to be funny I'd probably give it a thumbs up or down - but not report it as abuse - so what is it with people?

  • You've got to love them, haven't you?

I was explaining to my beautiful wife last night that "Torchwood" is written by the same people who wrote Doctor Who, and that "Torchwood" is in fact an anagram of "Doctor Who". My wife sat looking at the Torchwood trailer on BBC later and said "that's not an anagram of Doctor Who, there's no 'e' in it.

I just ran over to her and gave her a cuddle. Bless her.

  • What do you think of Britain today, socially & politically?

Do you think it's a fair society? Do you think it's politicians are fair and just? Do you think society is crumbling with decay, and if so, whose fault do you think it is?

  • I have a Seiko 5 DX series kinetic wristwatch - can anyone tell me anything about it?

It's a gents 23 Jewel automatic wristwatch with the serial number 637579 / 6106-7720 / Japan J on the backplate.

I know it's from the early 1970's and was bought in Saudi Arabia. It has Day / date in English, Arabic and French. Can't find anything about it on the Seiko site(s)

Can anyone tell me anything about it. I'm not necessarily interested in value - but if you know what it might be tell me.

    Many thanks.
