I'm 38, was in the Army for 13 years (40% disabled now) got to travel the world (All over the states, Panama, Germany, Korea, Saudi) I now work in a very math, algebra and science heavy job in Minnesota. I am a rabid WWII history buff, and was on a trivia TV show when I was younger. I like to rebuild cars (sports). I have legally driven 155 MPH on the Autobahn (shitting my pants). Things I hate: people that don't try, macaroni&cheese, front wheel drive cars with wings set to full downforce, poachers, televangalists, stupidity, North Korea. Things I love: My wife and kids, my RX-7, basketball -NOT PRO! the color blue, reading, devil's advocates, fly fishing, smart assed comments, our dog and cats, a cold beer on a hot day.

  • wii game Blazing Angels - squadrons of WWII?

I am a part time hack at playing video games, my kids got me this ( older) game and I got into it. So now I'm stuck at the level that you have to take the FW-190 through the ice valley at full speed. I have been trying to get through this level for about 2 weeks now - it is really pis**ng me off. Anyone have a way to get past this? Someone told me that there are cheat codes to go to any level in the game, but they didn't know what they were, so no help there. I would love to see what the rest of the game has to offer, but its looking like I'm going to have give this game to someone that can actually play it all the way through. Any help, tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • What is the difference between a motor and an engine?

Is there ever going to be an accepted world wide set of parameters - to be able to qualify an object into fitting under one word or the other as far as nomenclature? What say you my good engineers? Does it even matter?

  • Electricity, it can actually only be used for two things?

When you think about it, electricity ( AC or DC ) only really has 2 uses: 1) to produce heat: 2) to produce a magnetic field. Can anybody give me a third original use for electricity that does not include the first two? Examples,1) electric ( incandescent) light is possible because a conductive filament is heated up inside a vacuum so it will not immediately burn up. 2) an electric fan spins due to the attraction / repulsion of magnets inside a magnetic field. Any others?

  • Neutralizing acids, what is the result of this?

This is going to sound stupid but I was wondering what this would be... I was at work and had to clean up a sulfuric acid spill (very small) that is used to lower the pH level of a cooling tower sump water system. It was contained in a stainless steel pan, and I was told to use powdered soda ash. As I was adding small amounts at a time, the reaction was very violent and produced large amounts of heat. As the strength of the liquid was reduced, the amount of liquid in the pan was also getting noticeably smaller. The color was still clear. I continued to shake small amounts over the spill until there was no reaction whatsoever, the soda ash just fell to the bottom of the pan. At this point....what is in the pan? What is left behind? I disposed of it in the spill kit provided by an outside vendor, but I was wondering just what I was actually pouring in the drum. Would you still call it sulfuric acid if it is completely neutralized? Since the soda ash was just sitting in the bottom of the pan, was this solution now actually considered a base? If so, what would it be. Like I said, stupid question...should have paid more attention in Chemistry class.

  • Is the Wikileaks guy a hypocrite or a real "truth crusader"?

How can someone that supposedly is only interested in revealing "the whole truth" be so committed to ensuring that no information what so ever about his alleged sexual assault investigation is made public? The fact is that the "secret documents" that he is so valiantly releasing unto the world do not pertain to him personally! You have to admire a man struggling to shed light on all the ugly truth out there, just so long as it is not HIS!? In the overall world situation his little 'issue' as he calls it ranks behind just about everything else that is happening. No lives will be lost, no wars will be started, no governments brought down because the world finds out he likes to have sex in a particular way or with whom. So I guess my question is this: Should the world in general get behind and cheer on a person that has been quoted as saying "Everyone and every organization has it's secrets" in an interview with BBC, but then not only refuses to show his but then uses every legal means to keep his 'issue' out of the public eye? I have a real hard time with the motto "do as I say, not as I do" when the ramifications of the release of particular information COULD ( has and will in the future) endanger very real lives. But hey, he can live with that, can't he? But can we?

  • Is this horse for real?

A friend from work swears up and down that he heard of a race horse named "Hoof Hearted". The announcer at whatever track was laughing while calling out the horse positions as they neared the finish line, and this horse - I guess - was in the win, place or show....not sure where exactly, any way it was trading spots with a horse named " Mystery Lady"? Supposedly on YouTube but I can't find it. Can anybody verify this? It seems to goofy to be true. If it is, my hat's off to the owners.

  • Kicker Soundgate line went under?

Looking at my options in adding external amps to the factory head unit. The Soundgate Loc4.4-4 was a perfect choice, until I went to their website and found that they had discontinued the entire processor line that Stillwater had. No reason, just a "Sorry, we no longer make these". Any insight as to why they dropped it? Anyone know of a comparable item (that a working guy can afford?) Thanks.

  • What is the actual day that Jesus Christ was born on?

Everyone KNOWS that December 25th is Christmas, but that is not his actual birthday. With all the changes made to the calender(s) over the centuries, has his actual birthday been lost? With two extra months added by the Romans? ( OCTober - #8 but is 10th month, SEPtember #9 and DECember -#10 same thing) at the same time as trying to conquer the Germanic tribes (that worshiped evergreen trees - sound familiar?) I think the old Jewish "calender" was/is actually a counting of days ( not broken into months). Leap year is also a recent addition to the keeping of time records. Is it possible that the man known as Jesus of Nazareth was born on a different date? Christmas in July anyone?

  • GM OBD II Code what do they mean?

I pulled several codes from a 95' Monte Carlo Z34. Basically I want to blow this car up but my wife wants me to try to get it running for our son. Some of the codes are relativly easy, but there are several that have me scratching my head. I have tried looking these up but only get the "main description" not what it actually means in laymans terms. The codes are P1530, P1640 and P1650. I can find NO info on P1530. I find that P1640 and P1650 are "output driver module 1 circuit (1640) and 2 circuit (1650). Great. What the hell does this mean? Replace the muffler? LOL. Anyone ever run across these before?

  • Any old school jet guys out there? B-58 Hustler test flight wreck.?

My dad worked at G.E. for a long time as an engine designer. I remember Chuck Yeager, among others, having dinner at our house when I was 6 (1976 - nice photo of me on his lap in the living room). Dad told me a story about a B-58 Hustler during the initial testing of "fly by wire"controls. As they transitioned over to it in flight the aircraft started to pitch and yaw uncontrollably, shaking all 4 of the engines loose. The plane went down in a flat spin over the Nevada desert. Does anyone know the name of the test pilot? Or have any idea's on how to go about finding it out. All I get from G.E. is no answer at all from my several queries on the subject. None of my Dad's friends know either. I would like to know for my own personal reasons, this man was very nice to me (just a dumb kid) on the occasions that he had come over to our house. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • 3.4L engine will not stay running?

95' monte carlo 3.4L DOHC engine issues?

My 19 y/o son just got a $900 beater from a private seller. Since I am in a mechanical field (welder) I get the job of trying to diagnose and fix his car. This is what I have observed/witnessed. Engine will start 50% of time normally and idle at 1200 RPM. Other 50% it will turn over but not fire. While running, regardless of RPM or vehicle speed, engine will kill at random. Check engine light DOES NOT COME ON. This vehicle has a OBD 1 connector without pin "B" on the 12 pin data link. Jumper wire will not work. I am told that a code reader is useless, as the check engine light is not coming on to show a fault that will have a relevant code. After several evenings of friends and 12 pack(s) of beverages, I have learned the following: 1- I hate this engine. 2- Steve drinks way too much. 3- It is NOT the fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter, O2 sensor, vacuum leak, injectors, MAF sensor, IAC valve or loose connections on the battery (thanks to my wife for the last suggestion). If it was mine, I would turn the car into landfill food, but he (read WE) can't really afford to be out $900 and a car. Any suggestion? Even really off the wall ones would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • 2002 Ford Focus factory radio remote amp turn on wire?

O.K, I know that there is not a factory amp in the car other than the one in the head unit. I am looking at putting in a "stealth" system that will utilize the factory radio/CD unit in the dash, with a large dose of signal processing from Audio Control. I already have the line level signal tapped off of the now defunct speaker wires. Q-form kick panels with Boston Acoustic separates, 12" (Boston) subs, with 2 Soundstream amps under the seats in fan cooled stainless steel boxes. Here is the the sticking point - which wire should I use as the remote turn on? There is no power antennae wire, no remote wire that I have found or seen on any diagram. I hate to have to tap into an unrelated circuit to use as a turn on switch. Any ideas? Has anyone run into this before? When I called an installation shop (higher end) they said "bring it in". No s**t, I'm sure they can do it and charge me, but this is all being done by myself (with your help) in my garage. Thanks.

  • What are the 3 most important discoveries/inventions?

I was wondering if there is a general consensus world wide about which inventions and or discoveries have had the MOST favorable impact on human life from it's start (I don't care what you believe as far as evolution -vs- creationism) to the present day. Looking at all aspects, here are my choices, in chronological order. 1. Fire, the ability to make at will and control. I think this opened up countless options for humans, from cooking food to seeing at night, defense against animals, etc. 2. Alphabet/writing. All the knowledge gained by the previous generation would be useless without a way to pass on and preserve long term. Not just English but all writing forms (cuneiform, hieroglyphics,Cryillic) If you are reading this now give thanks to the Phoenicians. 3. Electricity. Honestly, just how f**ked would the entire world be without it, from what you are doing on the computer now to heating your house. I know I left out a lot, but I was going after the most far ranging choices. What do you think?

  • What are some good sports jokes?

Here is mine. A man and his dog walk into a bar on Sunday to watch the Vikings game. The bartender tells him if he gets any complaints, the dog and him are out the door. The guy sits down and the dog jumps up onto the stool next to him and puts his front paws on the bar. Both are watching the game intently. The Vikings drive down the field and kick a field goal. The dog jumps onto the bar and walks down the line of stools giving everyone a high 5 then returns to his seat and sits down. The bartender, amazed, says "Christ, what does he do if we score a touchdown?" The guy smiles and responds, " I don't know, I've only had him for 3 years!" ( I didn't hear this joke until we traded Randy Moss).

  • Laminar to molecular flow in a vacuum piping system. Which will work better?

Let's see if I get an answer faster online than I do from my department engineers. In a given length of pipe with minimal bends, the pressure is dropped from 760 Torr (7.6 X 10^2) ((6 millionths of an inch Mean Free Path)) to 7.6 X 10^-9 (30 miles MFP) In transitioning from laminar to molecular flow, we have a stalling point where our mechanical pumping method is not efficient, resulting in huge amounts of time ($$) being wasted. Which will work better, heating the pipe(ing) to half melting point (Stainless 316L) to "cook out" random molecules of moisture thus dropping the pressure OR cooling the pipe with cryogenic traps (-196C) to "freeze" the same molecules to the inside of the pipe and reduce the pressure that way. $64,000 question. (More actually) You are up against 8 real life people (6 men, 2 women) that have been working this since Monday 9/22/08. Not going to kill you with formulas for adsorption (yes with a D) Just curious to see what the consensus is from a large sample of engineering students, at least the ones that respond, then compare with the report when it comes in.

  • Has "religion" helped or hindered mankind as a whole?

Look at history, religion(s) have been responsible for holding mankind's pursuit of knowledge back, or worse yet, trying to control it for their purpose. The Crusades, witch hunts, Earth is center of universe, The Inquisition, Jihad, the Taliban, the Catholic church and Pope, ethnic cleansing(mostly along religious lines, yes?). If there was no such thing as any religion, would it be possible that we would be more advanced today? A lot of the great thinkers were persecuted and labeled heretics in their lifetime, forced to renounce discoveries and trains of thought that future students picked up on slowly, having to "re invent the wheel" every generation or so. Think of all the great minds that have been snuffed out over the course of history in the name of religion. Did the next Galileo die in the Iron Maiden? Was someone just as smart as Albert Einstein butchered because he dared to have his or her own beliefs in a world that crammed "GOD" down your throat in the "civilized world" of the 1500's? Would it have been possible to have the Internet in the 1800's without the churches meddling? Or automobiles in the 1700's? What do you think? I would like rational, thought out answers, for or against, not knee jerk ranting that only proves one of my personal beliefs about Pavlovian response in zealots. 10 points to the best argument, no matter which way you lean.
