  • Reduced cost eyeglasses for a senior citizen?

My mom is in her 70s and is still working. She has Medicare benefits and also health insurance at her job, but neither of these apparently covers eyeglasses. She lost her glasses a few days ago and I guess that Medicare won't pay for replacements...? This doesn't seem right to me.

Where can I find out about getting reduced cost or free replacement eyeglasses for my mom?

We live in Colorado (USA). I have done a little bit of searching on line but haven't found anything that addresses this so far.

Thanks in advance for helping! xoxo

  • Cell phone service -- Colorado eastern plains area?

I am hoping that other people who live out here can point me in the right direction regarding cell phone service for eastern Colorado. I like to roam around in the outback a lot and with my last cell phone the service was quite spotty--if I was near a major highway then it was ok, but once I started getting away from the highway I would lose the signal.

Who has a recommendation for this area?

    Thanks for reading! :)

  • How do I find out the web hosting service for a particular website?

If the hosting service is not posted anywhere on a website, how do I find out that information? NOTE: Don't tell me to message the site owner, he and I are not exactly on speaking terms.

Thanks in advance for your answers! :)

  • A question for bikers: Denver to Phoenix by motorcycle?

I want to ride my motorcycle from Denver to Phoenix and back again, which I've never done before--driven in a car and flown there only. I know from talking to a friend who has done this many times that it can be very grueling. The gas tank on my bike is not huge--I can only go about 120 miles on a tank before I have to gas up again.

Does anyone have any advice for me? I was thinking that leaving Denver in the afternoon so that I would be crossing the desert at night would be the best thing to do, but I don't know if gas stations are open then. What route have you taken for this ride and what do you usually do to make sure you have a fun and safe ride?

    Thanks a lot! ;)

  • My Kenmore washing machine won't drain or spin?

I have an older Kenmore top loading washer. In the past when it has had this problem I have removed the clothes, put some bleach in the water, and run a cycle without any clothes in it--and that usually fixes it. This time however that trick is not working. The motor is running and it will fill and agitate, but then it will not drain; the pump is going and I can sort of smell a "hot rubber" smell when it is trying to drain but the water just stays there. I have tried straightening the drain hose and pouring bleach into it--still nothing. The washer has been sitting for two days full of water (yecch!). The nearest laundromat is 12 miles away, too!

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks!

  • Law enforcement -- guns in the police station?

I know that it shows police officers wearing their sidearms in the station on TV shows such as Law & Order. But I'm wondering what policies if any exist in the typical police station about officers carrying weapons. Are there certain places in the police station (such as interrogation rooms) where guns are NOT allowed? Can a police officer really have his sidearm at or in his desk?

This is research for a story I'm writing, and your help is appreciated! :)

  • Glitches in Yahoo Instant Messenger--ignore list?

A person keeps sending me IMs that are verbally abusive. I have blocked him(?) numerous times and he just keeps coming back. When I go to look at my ignore list his name is never on there. I manually add the name to my ignore list but then when I go back and check it, it's not there. The name does stay on my "ignore email" list in my yahoo web mail.

Also I notice that if I clear all the names off my ignore list, the next time I block someone they all just come right back--I cleared my ignore list thinking that the next time I blocked the above-mentioned person, it might work, but it didn't: His name still doesn't appear on the ignore list and all the other names (people I blocked months or even years ago) just come right back. His name is NOT on my contacts list.

What could be going on here? I have submitted multiple "harrassment" reports on this individual and Yahoo customer care just sends me the same form letter telling me how to put someone on ignore!

    Thanks for the help!

  • Why are there so few bridges crossing the Mississippi River in Baton Rouge, LA?

This is another story research question. In looking at several maps of Baton Rouge (where I have never lived but only visited), I notice that there are only like two bridges crossing the Mississippi, and wonder why this is. Is it because of the river changing course? Because the ground is marshy?? Because the citizens of Baton Rouge love to sit in traffic...?

  • Story research-- Hurricane Charley in August of 2004?

I'm doing research for a story I'm writing. How did the storm Hurricane Charley affect the weather in and around Baton Rouge, Louisiana during the week of August 7 through 13, 2004? I know the storm did a lot of damage in Florida-- I'm having a hard time finding anything about how it affected Louisiana. What was the weather like at the beginning of the week versus when the storm struck? Was there a lot of wind? Did it rain all week? Was it very cloudy? (etc) Whatever you can remember about it will help me a lot! Thank you in advance!

  • A good tutorial (with screenshots) for using Synergy...?

I have this application installed on my two computers and they are networked appropriately, but none of the online tutorials I have found are that helpful. I know the program is installed correctly, and I can get the two computers to link, but I can't figure out how to set it up.

    Your help is appreciated! :D

  • How can I find a reputable literary agent?

I have been googling for an answer to this question and have found nothing reliable so far. There is one literary agency fairly close to where I live but they specify that they only take certain types of submissions; I may try them anyway but I'm not optimistic. And yes, there are many resources on the web but I don't want to send my manuscript out to just anyone-- I want to know that an agent has a success rate with getting stuff published and that it's not a rip-off before I contact them. Has anyone dealt with this problem, and if so-- how did you solve it? (thanks!)

  • I want to drive from the U.S. into Canada and take my dogs with me. Is that possible?

Is a passport required? I will be staying at a friend's house and will not be using public transportation or hotel lodgings.
