Does "independent woman" just mean "selfish and uncompromising"?
Why in this "he's no good for you", "I don't need a man" world must men be more compromising and in some cases submissive in a relationship? How can you be independent in a relationship?
12 AnswersMarriage & Divorce1 decade agoPoliteness: The most acceptable hypocrisy?
this quote is from "The Devil's Dictionary" by Ambrose Bierce. It reminded me of the story of Confucious... "baffled by the answers of the older man [Lao Tzu], to whom etiquette meant hypocrisy and nonsense."
Do not confuse etiquette with respect.
When does the rules of etiquette become nonsense but at the root?

3 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoPoliteness: The most acceptable hypocrisy?
I recently read this quote in "The Devil's Dictionary" by Ambrose Bierce. I've heard of his name in passing but never read his work - hilarious. But it reminded me of the story of Confucious... "baffled by the answers of the older man [Lao Tzu], to whom etiquette meant hypocrisy and nonsense."
Isn't etiquette simply attempting to enhance your self-image for the comfort of the self-image of others?
9 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoShould Jesus' ascension be unequivocally proved false, would that change a Christian's faith?
PLEASE READ
I know the "Tomb of Jesus" docudrama is riddled with theories. I don't care about the show or the ossuary found. (Yet.) But If some day in the future all necessary scientific evidence has been irrefutably decided that Jesus did not ascend to Heaven, would that change your faith?
Only 3 possible answers for Christians:
a. My faith would be crushed.
b. My faith only coincides with what is in the Bible.
c. My faith is based on a mystery along with my doubts.

6 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoCan an inter-religion marriage work?
I'm a Catholic. She's an ex-Jehovah's Witness looking into non-denominational worship. She doesn't feel anything special at a Catholic Church. I feel like something is missing from those non-denominational places.
Our marriage is working great but this has been a sensitive issue from the beginning. Neither of us will accept the other to make a sacrifice for the other. (I go just to please her or vice versa)
Do we just go separate ways on Sunday? That doesn't seem right to me.

20 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoIf divine intervention was a commonality would it change the way you lived?
I wish people got what they deserved - instantly. Instant retribution for wrong doing, instant serendipity for righteousness. Pure justice.
12 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoWhat can our brains evolve to understand?
Our brains haven't evolved.
We have the same thinking processes that people did 3000 years ago. With all of our new information and advances in technology we are still no more wise than the people that believed the earth was flat.
All of Eastern philosophy, Greek philosophy, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism all existed before common era.

Self quote.
27 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoStop saying HUMANS! Why do people say 'humans'?
Is there new school of thought that needs better clarification for our species? Who says "humans" in everyday conversation? Are there that many cyborgs and aliens that I don't know about, or are people just talking to their dogs too much?

Sweet car... a long black box, but classy.

3 AnswersMovies1 decade agoThose who love FIGHT CLUB and those who don't?
Isn't the world is divided into these two groups? Is it true to say that the nihilist theme (and buddhist if you've heard Ed Norton's commentary on the DVD) is an acurate take on this generation.
6 AnswersMovies1 decade agoLatinas... do you have hair on the sides of your neck?
Being a Tejano (Texas born hispanic), I've noticed that latinas have more thin whispy hair on their arms, sides of neck and sometimes just above the sideburns area than latino men. Why?
P.S. I think it's sexy.
