  • Transport science, how do wheels spin but not the car?

How do you connect the spinning parts on transportation (car/train) to the parts that dont spin?

How is it that the stagnant parts dont cause a lot of friction and cause it to stop spinning.

  • Feeling sick, what to do?

Im not feeling well. A lot of stomach discomfort, nausea, diarrhea, and a headache (+ fever and whatever). Are there any good ways to decrease this discomfort. Example, i read drinking coke will help settle the stomach. Anything else like this?

I am staying warm and resting.

Thanks, and sorry if this seems silly. I am not very familiar with feeling ill, and this might be the first time i remember having diarrhea with typical cold symptoms.

  • Help find Anime Song (child singing "la lalala lalalala")?

Its in japanese. It sounds like a little kid is singing it. It was played in an anime or 2.

For the build up to the chorus it goes "la la-lala la-la-lala lalala lalala lala la la".

My japanese is awful but after that its sound like she says "tu-shi wu-shi se no carnivore"

  • Do myths improve someones writing skills?

I find that knowing classic mythology is very necessary for authors. It provides the basics for what is considered normal when writing a story.

Do you also think mythology is vital to the storytelling process? I think the stories that have been told for thousands of years really lets us know where everyone's imagination is.

I am looking for some classic mythological stories. I am mostly interested in stories from ancient rome or greece, but would be happy to know some from other places as well.

A few links or short stories would be great. Thanks!

  • Could you provide some popular mythological stories?

I am looking for some classic mythological stories. I would like to leave modern religion out of this.

I am mostly interested in stories from roman/greek, but would be happy to know some from other places as well.

A few links or short stories would be great. Thanks!

I remember reading a story about the minotaur, where they sacrificed people by forcing them into an underground maze for the minotaur to eat or kill. This sort of thing interests me. Stories about gods would also be interesting, but there are so many, i would prefer it if they were classics.

  • What were historical towns like?

I am interested in a depiction of what old towns were like. In fantasy novels and movies the towns always have large walls around them with large gates. These questions are based on historical features from around 0-1500AD.

    - Did all towns have massive walls around them?

    - Were all the paths bumpy dirt roads except inside the cities, where they were made of stone?

    - Were slums built outside of a town/city?

    - How were taxes calculated, paid, and collected?

    - Would you be taxed upon trying to enter a town if you were a merchant?

    - If a baron who ran a town were to take everything you owned, was there anything you could do?

    - Were their any form of police? I assume it was local soldiers hired by the landowner who kept the peace? Did they help civilians or was it all for defensive purposes?

Are there other things you could tell me, similar in nature, that would be useful in story set in old/fantasy times?

  • Christians, do you believe in the old god or the new god?

Christians, which god do you believe in?

The old god, which is the type described quite well in the old testament, is a human God. He is angry, jealous, and has all sorts of emotions. He expects loyalty and obedience, and is willing to punish people in a massive number of ways, from beatings to eternal torture, if they dont please him. Essentially a dictator style God who is proud, arrogant, angry, and selfish. He is imperfect in a whole variety of ways. We were truly created based on his image and mind. He was tricked by his own angels, he doesnt know everything, and he cant do everything.

The new god is the modern liberal fairy-tale type. Like santa claus, he knows who has been naughty and nice, and will treat you accordingly. Every thing he does is making life better for humans. He is forgiving and kind. He will punish people, but does not use hell. He protects and loves everyone. Every child that starves to death does so for a good reason. The whole, God works in mysterious ways (meaning; "i dont have a ******* clue why he is making people suffer, and i dont give a ****").

  • Religion is just silly superstition?

Religion is just silly superstition. Like ghosts, fairies, leprechauns, santa claus. All these things take place with the supernatural. Psychics and mediums.

Why should your religion be considered anything more than a silly story?

  • How do you justify suffering ?

Atheists, i would like to know how you justify tragedy and suffering in this world. I dont want to hear about divine crap from christians, but feel free to contribute if it isnt.

As a nihilist i dont believe there is such a thing as a bad person or a bad deed. But people and actions can hurt other people, and cause them a lot of pain and suffering.

I believe that these is some karma. Example, people who go through tragedy more often will learn to deal with it better and get used to it. People around them will try to help them more.

Is there some way to look at suffering and think, well its not that bad, there is some justice here?

  • Relationships in reality vs fiction?

I have never had a proper relationship. I was curious about how they work. Im not very good at understanding interpersonal norms.

In many movies, animes, novels, two characters who do not know each other very well often fall in love and devote their lives to one another. To what extent does this work? If they are really in love would they die for each other? Are they open to the possibility that they might break up some day?

And to what extent can friends do something similar, devote their lives to one another?

Any and all information would be great.

  • Inspiration is short lived?

I want to be an author because i have enjoyed many novels, movies, and anime myself. I usually get inspired by the latest thing i have read or watched, and want to write it myself to share these ideas and emotions with other people. Unfortunately i cannot write a novel every day (well, i have never written one in my life).

How do you handle these inspirations when they conflict with a long and developing story-line you are trying to write?

Is it a bad idea to read novels when you are trying to write one? (& watch movies/shows)

You see something cool in a shooting show and suddenly you want something similar in your novel. But your novel is set in medieval times. Ahh, the trouble.
