How often would you say it's acceptable to have boyfriend staying over at university?
It's a shared flat and I'm a fresher, so I have no idea what my roommates are going to be like on this.
I've also been lumped with a twin bedroom, which is absolutely rubbish (although I am definitely going to be getting a privacy screen for both of us to use when getting changed and so on, and just for general privacy and personal space).
Now, I know everybody is different on these matters, so I'm hoping to at least get a vague idea on what peoples' views are likely to be.
When you answer, if you're over 25 or so, could you please try to think back to how you would have answered when you were 18? I only say this because I know people do mature and change a lot as they grow older, which leads to opinions and views changing.
Anyhow, I'm rambling.
Personally, I wouldn't mind how often my room-mate has people staying over, as long as they're not unfriendly, impolite or disrespectful. That's partly because I don't plan to stay in my bedroom much - it's really just going to be for sleeping, browsing the internet for leisure and possibly some of my work (although I'd be perfectly happy to make myself scarce and use the library now and then if my roomie wants privacy), but it's also because at the end of the day it IS her room as well, and she shouldn't feel restricted or uncomfortable in it.
Just to give an idea of what kind of person my partner is; he's the sort of person who will do all the chores around the place while he's there, even if people tell him he doesn't need to do that, he'll cook and so on, and he's far from unfriendly. He's lovely and certainly wouldn't crowd people by following them around or anything like that.
If it was a single bedroom and it was just 'flat'-mates I needed to think about, I wouldn't be so worried (although of course I'd still be asking).
The thing is, I fully understand that compromises will need to be made what with sharing a bedroom, and that's why I'm asking on here. Of course, I will be asking my actual room-mates when I get there, but it'd be nice to have an idea before I go as well.
Thank you and sorry about the long description. No stupid answers, please.
2 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoPossibly to do with wanting Kittens or something?
My (female) cat has a habit of occasionally picking socks up and carrying them round in her mouth, yowling really sorrowfully. The socks are always black like her - none of them have ever been a different colour from her even though there are hardly any black socks here.
I've noticed on here that quite a few other peoples' female cats seem to do the same thing.
Think it might be some form of phantom pregnancy or brooding?
(My cat's been neutered too. She's 11 and she's been neutered for years. She does have toys but seems to prefer socks. She's never had kittens or been pregnant at all)
1 AnswerCats1 decade agoAre these beliefs Behaviourist?
I'm just a little confused: The Ancient Egyptians buried their dead with all of their most important possessions (providing the deceased was important enough for this treatment, of course), so they must have believed that the body as well as the soul passes on into the afterlife... is this Dualism or Behaviorism? The tutor didn't explain Behaviorism properly, so I'm quite mixed up here.
I could do with an answer ASAP as I have an exam tomorrow! Thank-you.
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs it normal that I honestly never check other guys out?
I'm in a relationship at the moment, and since being with him I've just never been in the slightest bit interested in looking at other guys. Not even in passing. We've been together for a year and 3 days, and not once have I felt any interest in looking at others.
I'm not bothered whether it's normal as such... I just wondered if anybody else is like this? Also, just to clear this up, I'm not being self-righteous here, I know it's natural for people to look when they're in a relationship.
In every other relationship I've had, I've looked at other guys, so I dunno what it is stopping me; possible that it's being in love that's stopped it?
Reason I'm unsure about that is that I know some people who claim to be in love do still ogle others. I hate human nature, it's horrible and confusing. =/
7 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoParent being unreasonable.?
Been with my (Long-Distance) boyfriend for just over a year. We see each other quite regularly to say he's 250 miles away, and he really does make me happier than I thought was possible from a relationship.
Just one problem. You've probably guessed what (or who) already. My mum has a big problem with it. And before anybody tries to tell me it's in my best interests... the main thing she seems to do the most is laugh at his appearance. There's nothing whatsoever wrong with it; obviously I find him extremely attractive; but even if there was, she has no right to say anything about it.
I'm not going to give you a big long rant about it. You could probably guess the nature of the insults (e.g. "Ugh but look at the state of him!" *Looks angry for a while then starts laughing as though she's funny*). Things like that. It's like living with a jealous five year old, and I really am sick of it. Anyone know what I could say or do to stop her or at least some ways to effectively ignore her? I don't need this on top of A-levels and Uni applications, plus it hurts like hell to hear him being ridiculed.
I've tried "Looks aren't important", I've tried "Well obviously I find him attractive, and it doesn't matter what you think", I've even tried "Please will you stop being like that?", which I knew wouldn't work.
I'm out of ideas, any suggestions? Advice from actual parents just as welcome as anyone elses. Thankyou.

1 AnswerVideo & Online Games1 decade agoHow can I contribute more to our long-dist relationship?
I've been in a long-distance (Kent, England --- Manchester, England) relationship with my boyfriend for 7 and a half months. I'm 16, and my mum seems to think I'm too young to make the journey (which is one 5hr coach to London, then he would meet me from there) to see him. One of my male friends has offered to come on the coach with me (he has a girlfriend in London he'd stay with), so my mum will be easier about it (my friend's 17), but this doesn't seem to have any effect.
Usually I would say it's because of the dangers and it's just her protecting me, but it isn't. Her reasoning is that his mum's got alzheimer's and she doesn't want to send me into this environment. That isn't any grounds not to let me go, as his gran has offered her house which is always empty as she lives with his parents. She's said we can stay there if we want, and my mum knows that.
The annoying thing about this is that every time I talk around a problem and make her feel better about it, she comes up with another - some of them completely irrelevant. I know damned well that the only real reason she's stopping me is that she doesn't like me being with him - some of the reasons for that are actually to do with appearance, believe it or not! - and wants me to be with someone - anyone - else. This frustrates me beyond belief, and I really do want to go and see him.
She also keeps saying he's pressuring me into wanting to go there, but it's always my own suggestion, and he never pressures me. She won't listen when I tell her this, though.
Help, anyone?
Thanks.
2 AnswersSingles & Dating1 decade agoIs there something badly wrong with my cat?
He was a stray when we took him in, so we don't know how old he is, but he has some grey patches so he's clearly getting on. He's recently developed a bald patch on his cheek, is having bad sneezing fits and his eyes look slightly glazed. Is this just a cold or does it seem to be something else? We're getting him booked into the vets' but I wanted some outsider opinions, too. Thankyou.
7 AnswersCats1 decade agoWhat exactly is the difference? Sort of urgent - hoping to dye it tomorrow or Tue.?
Apart from (at least in my experience) the hair lightener you get in highlight kits not damaging hair much, what's the difference between that and bleach?
Can I get the lightener you find in L'oreal highlighting kits on its own?
I have purple hair at the moment (Live; Swartzkopf or however it's spelt). I know lightener definitely works over this as I tried once and it went light ginger (dying over it so doesn't matter as long as it's light), would this be an acceptable substitute for bleach?
3 AnswersHair1 decade agoWiFi USB Adaptor for Nintendo DS?
I have Windows Vista, and my adaptor won't install properly. Is that because of Vista or is there some other reason? I know it's not the adaptor because it's installed on the family computer which has XP. But I want it on my laptop. Is it possible I'd have to delete it off the other computer for it to work?

1 AnswerHistory1 decade agoOk this really is going to sound stupid...?
When I'm feeling nervous or apprehensive, my face does this weird rebellion and I nearly always end up with a 'smirk' on my face even though it's the last thing I'd want there. Anyone know why that might be? :s And how the hell I can stop it?

2 AnswersOther - Games & Recreation1 decade agoCrickets Kill Bearded Dragons??
Is it true!? I heard that leaving live crickets in it's tank overnight leads to the cricket feeding on the dragon's skin and eventually killing it, and that dead crickets attract mites. I can believe the latter, but is the former true?
5 AnswersReptiles1 decade agoWill Special Effects Atomic Pink hair dye work over Live Mystic Violet dye? DON'T TELL ME TO BLEACH!!! >.<?
My hair's not faded very much, so would it just show up as a pink tint?
Preferably want answers from people who've done this themselves, thanks.
