  • Lessons for learning C++ after C?

So I've been studying C for a few months and gotten a fair hang of the language. Since C++ is a superset of C, I imagine it should be easy to learn (and useful). Can anyone point me to some C++ tutorials/lessons directed at people who already know C? Basically pointing out the important things about C++ rather than assuming I know nothing about programming? Thanks!

  • Option boxes and email forms on my webpage... what language to use?

I want to make a webpage with several checkboxes, and input boxes for user input. A button at the end should send me an email with the information the user input to the form. What language(s) should I use to do this that? I'm running a linux server, so windows specific stuff wont do. Thanks!

  • I want to run servers from my home, need more bandwidth?

So I've got a number of spare computers around my house, and I figured I could make a little extra income by renting them out as game servers for the public. Problem is, my ISP only gives me enough bandwidth (upload specifically), to handle a light load (I have comcast, I get about 4mbps up on a good day). Their business class service isn't much faster, for twice the price. Anyone have any suggestions on ISP's or where I can get additional upload bandwidth for a reasonable price? Does anyone else here do this, and how do you manage?

  • I want to host a .net website with dynamic ip?

Hi, I'm wanting to set up a website from a server in my home (which has a dynamic ip). I'd rather not pay for a static ip, so what are some good services that I can use to host a .net/org/com website from home? I've been using the free dyndns server for a while, but I don't see any options to host as just a .net without the "dyndns". Suggestions?

  • What operating system to install on my Via C3 computer?

I have a mini-pc I built some years ago with a mini-itx motherboard. It has a Via C3 processor @ 800mhz (its pretty much the equivalent of a Pentium 3 @ 500mhz), with 512mb ram. Ubuntu 10.04 is incredibly slow on it and Windows XP isn't any better. Anyone have any suggestions for an OS that will run quickly on this PC?

  • Is it possible to compile a program in 2+ languages?

In the case of gcc and fbc (freebasic compiler), since both of them compile object code before complete binary compilation, would it be possible to link multiple object files (source files written in C and FB) together after theyve been compiled with their respective compilers?

  • Using linux for college?

So I'm planning on starting college soon. I'm trying to decide what operating system to use for my school stuff on my laptop. I don't want to deal with the usual windows bullshit, so I'm considering kubuntu linux. I'm not a complete noob to linux, so I know what I'd be giving up. Question though, is whether or not I'll be able to find suitable replacements for any apps I might need in school. I know there's replacements for office and other m$ stuff, but say replacements for any other special proprietary software I might need to use. I'm not planning on playing many games in school, so that won't really be an issue. Just need to know if it's suitable for my everyday needs in college, and a good choice to go with?

ps. Please don't suggest I buy a mac.

  • Should I preserve my '77 KZ400 or just ride it?

I have a 1977 Kawasaki KZ400, it's my first bike. It's in very good shape for it's age and only has 10K miles (I bought it with 7K). My question is about whether or not I should preserve it for the future or just ride it 'till it dies. I know that it's a pretty rare bike already, and I get compliments on it all the time (since there aren't many UJM style bikes around anymore). It'd be really cool to have a rare bike like this still running in 10 years, but I also don't want to worry about babying my first bike and not having a good time on it. Thoughts?

  • Trying to decide on my next motorcycle?

Hello everyone, I was hoping I could get some opinions on what I should buy for me next bike. Right now I'm riding a 1977 Kawasaki KZ400. It's been a great first bike for me, but I'd like something with a little more power (and parts availability). I've considered a Ninja 250, but that wouldn't be much of an upgrade considering th KZ400 and Ninja 250 perform rather similarly. Style/age of the bike doesn't really matter as long as it's not a Harley-esque cruiser type, and I can still get all the parts I need for it. A top speed of maybe 120 mph would be nice, to allow for some fun but not get into too much trouble, and give me plenty of available headroom on the highway (my KZ400 is revving awfully high at highway speeds). Any suggestions?

  • Proper piano fingering?

I've been trying to teach myself to play piano/keyboards lately and while the music theory aspect of it I can handle by myself, I'm not totally sure of the "proper" fingerings for a lot of things. I don't want to get down the road with a bunch of bad habits I'll need to un-learn. Does anyone know of a site/book that shows proper fingerings for a lot of different situations such as chords/arpeggios/long scale runs. Thanks!

  • Am I addicted to cigars?

I smoke maybe 2-4 cigars a month, absolute maximum. Since cigars are bigger than cigarettes, I figure the "requirement per day" for addiction would be considerably lower. However, I don't know what that rate is. I don't get irritating cravings for cigars, I just grab one every now and then when I feel like it's a good night to have one. Would you consider me addicted?

  • What type of chain goes on a 1977 Kawasaki KZ400?

I need to buy a new chain, but I don't have a manual for the bike and I'm no mechanical expert... I found something that says it uses a 530-100 chain but I'm not sure, does anyone else know where I could find out (or do you know)?

  • Quick way to oxidize copper with household chemicals?

I have a piece of metal here and I'm not sure if it's copper or brass, but I need to find out. I figure the easiest way to find out is to oxidize some of it and see if it turns green, correct? Could anyone give me a method that will oxidize copper relatively quickly?
