  • Which TV tuner for laptop with Comcast Digital Set Top Box?

I have a laptop with Windows Media Center. I also have Comcast digital cable coming through a set top box. I am looking for a USB tv tuner that takes the signal from the set top box, and controls it with an IR blaster for DVR functionality.

Which tv tuner fits my desired set up?

  • Viper Car Alarms on Ebay?

I am looking at a viper car alarm, specifically the 5901 model. Why is it listed for $600 and over on the Viper website but stores on ebay have them for $200? These are legitimate sellers with great ratings and feedback. Is this for real? And why are they so cheap here?

  • Capacitor start motor is humming?

I have a sears and roebuck drill press and the motor manufacture date is from 1984. When the switch is turned on there is a humming sound coming from the press. If you open the top and spin the belts to give it that initial push the press operates just fine.

Is the problem the capacitor? Brushes?

    Thank you in advance

  • Multiple HDMI devices to Surround Sound with one HDMI port?

This is my setup right now:

I have a TV with three HDMI inputs. I have a home theater system (w/ bluray player) with only one HDMI port. I have XBOX and HD television service.

I want my setup to have all audio play through the surround sound speakers. I do not have the option of using component cables on the XBOX or TV.

What are my options for making this happen? I would prefer not to have extra remotes for HDMI switchers or anything of the sort. Can the TV be set to export audio through that connection with the home theater system? Or do I need to buy an optical cable? Please suggest any other set-ups.

    Thanks!

  • Ford Explorer Factory Service Manual?

  • Weird start problem. 1999 Explorer SOHC?

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer XLT with the 4.0 SOHC

This problem is inversely related to engine temperature in that, as the engine climbs to operating temperature the problem gets worse.

Here is what happens when engine is warm: Car starts and revs to 1800rpm like normal. When the idle drops the car will not catch itself and it will die. This repeats exactly the same upon a second try. From the time the car starts until it dies is no longer than five seconds. On a third try the car will rev up like normal and will drop to about 300rpm and catch itself. After this process the car runs and drives like normal and there are no further idle problems.

If the car is cold it starts right up and does just fine.

  • '90-'96 300zx Transmissions. Turbo Vs. Non-Turbo?

I own a '96 240sx. A common swap for us 240 guys is to get a VG transmission from the car stated in the topic. The VG30 has a more robust transmission than the KA24's.

My question is whether or not there is a difference between turbo and non-turbo VG transmissions, in terms of strength and/or gear ratios.

  • What do you think about them?

What are your guys experiences with Aamco Transmissions? I had them replace a trans for me once before. Worst service ever. Alignment was way off. You had to force the car to go straight.

I didnt bother to get this problem fixed because it went right to the dealership for a trade in.

But my new(used) car grinds and I believe it needs new syncros. I'm going to try and replace it with different fluid to see if that helps.

How much would they charge for a full manual rebuild? (I will bring them the trans already out of the car)

What is the turn around time?

Do these people actually do their jobs right?

  • Stock radios (2) have not worked.?

So I have bought 2 stock radios for my nissan 240sx SE (1996). Both worked when removed.

I have gotten the FSM and checked to see where the power and ground comes from. I have checked both and am getting power.

What could be wrong? The only thing I could think of would be that I used a magnetic screw driver. Other than that thats it.

    What do you think?

  • OEM head units from model to model?

A couple days ago I asked a question about High level inputs. The answerer mentioned using a different OEM head unit. (I have a Nissan 1996 240sx SE)

Which brings up a couple questions.

Does Nissan have some sort of universal connector for the back of the radio's from model to model and year to year?

Would Double Din radios have the amplifier inside of the radio?

Would the mounting holes be the same?

I've always heard that BOSE radios are pain to deal with and modify. Why is that? What is different about their wiring that makes it hard/impossible?

    Thanks guys!

  • High level inputs with no factory amp?

The amplifier I have has high-level inputs and I will be utilizing those. Since the signal is coming straight from the head unit (not passing through any OEM amplifiers) will the high level inputs work? My way of thinking is that the high level is there to handle the already amplified signal from the OEM amplifiers. Is that true? Or will the high levels work either way?

  • Any experience with off-brand amplifiers?

I know they are crap and they overrate the wattage, no hiding that. But I need one to power my car speakers (duh) because the stock amps were gone when I bought the car. Sound quality? Reliability?

    Thanks

  • My trailer ramps were stolen. What other ways are there to get the car onto the trailer?

I need it towed by tomorrow morning. Any suggestions would help.

Has anyone tried bricks, or lots of 2x4s?

Keep in mind that it is a car with 6in or less of ground clearance.

    Thanks
