  • Can anyone give some suggestions on a ski area with it's own village at the lifts in south or central Vermont?

I had the idea that Okemo had its own village with a lift that came right into it, but it's not obvious from the web site. Did I just miss it? I would like a place where non-skiers can enjoy a village with stuff to do but with decent skiing also.

Not Killington - I don't care for Killington and have been to it enough times.

  • What are the options to replace the set-top box that Verizon FIOS offers for rent?

I have FIOS for TV and internet and it's very good, but I am wondering if there are lower priced alternates for the set top box. I need to get a second HD box and if I can. I would like to acquire something better or cheaper than what they offer.

What are some good options for this?

  • Is Major League Baseball's financial condition going to doom small market teams?

The Pirates are now gutting whatever traces of actual big league players. The Indians essentially gave away another Cy Young winner (thanks, Indians!) to the Phillies.

Is the MLB business model so fundamentally flawed that no small market team can hope to compete? Or are those two teams (both of which have nice new stadiums) suffering from greedy ownership and incompetent management?

Keep in mind that Toronto is one of the biggest metropolitan areas in North America.

  • Recommendations for getting songs off an IPod and back onto my hard drive?

My hard drive crashed and I lost a bunch of songs that I had not gotten around to backing up on CD. They are on my IPod Shuffle. I've asked a few people and did some searches and it seems like I could use Senuti or a couple of other programs to pull these back out of my Shuffle and reload them onto my new computer (a Mac with the latest OS 10.-whatever).

Has anyone used Senuti or similar programs? What was your experience? Any thoughts will be appreciated.

  • Is Jayson Werth being played out of a job?

This guy they picked up from I think the Royals, John Mayberry, is going to be real hard to sit. He looks like a steal, the Phillies only having to give up Greg Golson for him. Meantime, Werth can hardly get up to bat with his various nagging injuries.

Will Werth become the right handed bat off the bench they've been looking for, while Mayberry takes over in right field?

  • Expert witness testimony - how much?

Is there a normal or customary price range for expert witness testimony? I've been asked to provide some but I have a feeling that I am being low-balled on price. Anyone have any experience in this?

  • What do these six teams have in common?

Buffalo Bills, Cincinnati Bengals, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs.

Hint: As an Eagles fan, I love this one. I'm sure that Giants and Redskins fans feel the same way!

Hint #2 - I left out Houston since they are an expansion team.

  • Why did two writers vote on the NL MVP the way they did?

Just wondering about this. One was Rich Campbell of the Fredericksburg Freelance-Star, who left Howard off altogether. The other was Mark Zuckerman of the Washington Times. He had Howard as tenth. They both cover the Nationals.

Did either of these guys post any explanations? If so, please put up a link.

By the way, the answer to this is not "cuz howard sux."

  • Help for an old leather "bomber" jacket?

I have a nice old brown leather bomber jacket. It is maybe 20 years old and while it is comfortable and nicely worn (with a soft patina all over), I think it could use a little restoration and maybe weather-proofing. But I don't want to put on something that will ruin the well used appearance. Got any suggestions?

  • Do you think that Barack Obama's election will encourage people with unusual names to run for President?

Think about it. Up to now, presidents always had nice, safe, "WASPy" names like Bill Clinton and George Bush. And who among us (come on, admit it, even us Obama supporters thought this!) didn't think that he had an oddly non-Presidential name. But he broke through that last barrier, the inborn prejudice against people with odd names.

When guys like Zbigniew Brzezinski and Casper Weinberger were young lads, the writing was already on the wall for them - no way they would ever be elected with those names. Picture those poor kids, possibly with tears in their little eyes, thinking about a career in government and knowing that no one would ever vote for them because their names were funny and darn near unpronounceable.

So who should follow Obama's lead? Maybe Rahm Emanuel? He already has a leg up, with Obama's sponsorship (no doubt in part because of his odd-name kinship).

Names, people, I wont names - ten points to the best suggestion of an oddly named (but real) person who should run for office!!

    Pretty self-explanatory - make your case! : )

  • So where does Pat Burrell end up next year?

He's slow footed and no better than an average outfielder. He is prone to hot and cold streaks. But he has reliably deliver 25 - 30 home runs and 90 RBIs a year with a .260 average and a very high on-base percentage since he draws a lot of walks. I doubt the Phillies will resign him unless he is willing to take a pretty big pay cut.

Who picks him up, and why?

  • Where in all the LA papers did they say that Ramirez' home run would have been an out in Dodger stadium?

They were pretty careful to point that out about Utley's and Burrell's in game one, but for some reason they seem to have forgotten to mention it for game two. They also seem to have forgotten to cal it "cheap," a constant theme of the game one coverage. I thought they were journalists, not "homers" (except for TJ Simers, of course).

  • Amy Winehouse - falling apart, or publicity?

I've heard it said that all of the deranged behavior is really just for publicity and that she really isn't falling apart the way she is portrayed in the media. This hardly seems possible - she is such a great talent and it would be sad to lose her to drugs and alcohol. Does anyone know the real scoop?

  • Why doesn't this category show up in the index?

Bullfighting - under "Society and Culture" - I found it by accident - I wonder how many other categories there are that don't show up this way. It does not appear to be in any index.

  • How about Ryan Howard now? He finished with a big rush, hitting like...?

  • Did Reyes and the Mets let the Phillies get inside their heads?

Reyes sure seemed to be pressing. Every time he made a bad play or had a bad game, he seemed to get into a worse funk. He doesn't seem to play like that except against the Phillies. The Mets gave up something like 11 walks and five errors today, and lost their seventh straight to the Phillies - but (and I hate to admit this) they sure look (on paper) like the better team.

Any ideas? As a long suffering Phillies (and Eagles and Sixers) fan, I figure the Phighin' Phils will as usual fall just short, but if they make the playoffs and play the Mets, it will be interesting. Will the Mets and Reyes bounce back if it happens?

  • Pitch Counts - do they really help?

It drives me up a wall to see a starting pitcher get pulled from a game solely because he exceeded 100 pitches. This is especially maddening when you are a Phillies fan and you know how inconsistent (at least) the middle relievers are.

Has it been demonstrated statistically that firm use of the 100 pitch count really helps a pitcher's career or improves a team's chance to win?

  • Texas Leaguer and Baltimore Chop...?

A Texas Leaguer is a soft fly ball that goes over the infielders heads and in front of the outfielders that falls for a hit.

A Baltimore Chop is a hit that goes straight down hard and then bounces so high that it looks like a pop up. By the time it is caught, the runner is on first with a single.

Does anyone know how these got their names? Sources, please - web sites (or web cites!) preferred.
