  • What is 15:45:00 GMT in central US time?

I am looking at a date in July, so I suppose daylight savings time must be taken into account as well ... I think it is 10:45 am, but this type of thing confuses me, so could someone double check? Thank you.

  • Advice on my college list?

Hi everyone! I am a junior in high school and I was wondering which ones of these schools are matches, reaches, and safeties. Also, let me know if you have any recommendations or advice based on this list. Thanks!

    THE LIST:

    Abilene Christian U

    Belmont U

    Hardin-Simmons U

    John Brown U

    Oklahoma Christian U

    St Edward's U

    Texas Christian U

    Texas State University

    U of Mary Hardin-Baylor

    U of North Texas

    U of Texas at Arlington

    Washington U in St. Louis

    ABOUT ME:

I am salutatorian of my class of 234, I have a 4.0 GPA, and I am a full IB diploma candidate. I got a 234 on my PSAT so I expect to get a National Merit Scholarship. On the SAT I got a 2210 (690 CR; 740 M; 780 W; 8 E). As for extracurriculars, I am in Student Council (reporter), NHS, Art Honor Society, and Leo Club (reporter). I also have done community service projects independently and as a part of these organizations. As part of my school's academic UIL teams for journalism and number sense, I have received district, regional, and state awards. One more thing, I work part time in childcare at a nearby church.

WHAT I WANT IN MY COLLEGE:

Well, I plan on studying communication design (sometimes called visual communications, graphic design, etc.) with possible minors in journalism and/or philosophy. I want to be no more than about 600 miles from Dallas, and preferably in an urban area. I would also like to go to a medium-sized school, about 2,000-10,000 students. In all honesty I am a total nerd, and I would really like to go somewhere with people like me (NOT a sports or sorority-focused environment).

Thank you so much!! Let me know if you'd like any more information.

  • What should I bring on a 5 day/5 night spring break trip to Missouri?

I will be touring a couple of colleges and doing tourist-y things (the Arch, maybe a zoo and/or museum). What clothes should I wear, and also what could I do or watch on the 11-hr drive?

  • What math class should I take next year?

So, because of state laws I have to take four math classes for my four years in high school.

    I have taken:

    Algebra 1

    Geometry

    Algebra 2

    IB Math 1 SL

    IB Math 2 SL

(If you don't know about IB Math, it comprises algebra, trigonometry, statistics, probability, etc. ... There is more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IB_Group_5_subjects#M... )

So my options are IB Math HL, though it won't count toward my diploma. Also, I might be able to take an AP course online. So that would be calculus or statistics, I guess. By the way, my intended field is graphic design/journalism. The only way I think math might be involved is in advertising/marketing, with statistics. I'm very strong in math and I like it, but I don't see it being a career for me.

Have you taken any of those options before and what might you recommend?

  • Looking for a student/web browsing laptop (details...)?

So, I'm currently looking for a new laptop. Size is most important to me - I want something around 13", but a little more or less is okay. I just know that I don't want a full-size 15.6" nor a cramped 10" netbook. Second most important to me is battery life - I want it to have really good battery life. As for use, I don't do much of any gaming. I'd want to use it mostly for word processing (done primarily in the cloud via Google Docs) as well as listening to music (again, in the cloud), email, web browsing, etc. I might do the occasional video/graphics project, and I'd like to be able to plug in my graphics tablet. But I'm really not looking for something high end, I want the price to be low. So let me know if there is anything you might recommend, I'm overwhelmed by the choices!!!

  • Do I need to send my SAT scores?

I'm a junior and I'm taking the SAT for the first time in two weeks. I got a notification email from College Board prompting me to have my scores sent to schools or scholarship programs. Should I even bother with this, since I'm only in 11th grade? Or should I go ahead and send it to a couple schools I'm interested in, since I can send four for free? Thanks!!

  • What laptop or netbook should I get?

Hi, I'm a student who is looking for a laptop suitable for email, Internet browsing, some graphics/coding work, and schoolwork. I was initially looking at netbooks because of price and portability. However, I haven't found many great options. Portability is not super important to me but I would not like something very large, and most mid-size laptops seem notably more expensive than the netbooks. What I really do value is battery life. I don't necessarily need a lot of memory on the device because I use a lot of cloud storage, and I could add a flash drive. However, RAM memory is something I would like more of. I currently have a Compaq Presario that's five or six years old. I like it okay, but it's died on me several times, is slow, and is too bulky. The two new ones I'm considering most right now are an HP Mini 210 and a Google Chromebook. Any other suggestions?? Thanks!

  • Are there any movies that do not have a house, a man, or a woman?

This is a challenge from some friends to find a movie that doesn't have a single one of those three things. Animals represented as male or female count toward man or woman. Also, movies other than documentaries are preferable. Please help! Thanks.

  • What should I wear with my homecoming dress?

I have a teal dress that hits just above my knees. It has spaghetti straps, a sweetheart neckline, and is fitted on top with a poofy two-tier skirt bottom. I love it. But I have no idea about hair, shoes, or jewelry. I've never been to a homecoming so I don't really know what to expect as for how formal people will be dressed, how much actual dancing goes on, if people are really couple-y, etc. Also, this seems kind of petty, but do most girls have a clutch or wristlet with them? It seems like it might be inconvenient to carry around but I'd like to have my phone, etc. with me. Thanks!

  • What should I order from E.L.F.?

I'm about to make an order from eyeslipsface.com because the two things I've been waiting for are both in stock!

Just so you know, I have a very natural and simple makeup routine. I wear tinted moisturizer (my pale skin needs the SPF protection, and I like how it smooths my skin), lip gloss, and sometimes cream blush and E.L.F.'s clear mascara.

I'm planning on ordering Matte Lip Color in Coral, Concealer Pencil/Brush, Lilac Petal Color Stick, and Matte Nail Finisher.

Are there any brushes that work well for tinted moisturizer or cream blush? Or anything else I should check out?

  • Could you help me find the right purse?

I'm looking for a big purse I can use for school.

    Here are my parameters:

    * Can hold personal items, a few small books, etc.

    * Has several pockets

    * Under $35 (less is better!)

    * I like the look and durability of leather, but this is a preference not a requirement

Any store or product links would be great!

  • Looking for some great iPod app games...?

I've recently gotten into Plants vs. Zombies. Some of my other favorites are Doodle God, Logic Box, Words with Friends, Fit It!, etc. Nothing too gory, etc. I like puzzle/mystery games, too, like Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright on the DS. I'm particularly looking for games I might want to play on a loooooooong road trip my family is going on in about a month. Thanks!!

  • What's the best book/resource for learning root words (SAT prep)?

Next year I'm taking the PSAT and pretty soon I'll be taking the SAT, too. I really want to work on my vocabulary, and I'd like to find a book, audiobook, app, podcast, whatever (preferably a book/workbook) to work on Latin/Greek root words! Any suggestions?
