  • Physics questions about angular, linear momentum?

A student initially stands on a circular platform that is free to rotate without friction about its center. The student jumps off tangentially, setting the platform spinning. Quantities that are conserved for the student-platform system as the student jumps include which of the following?

    Angular momentum

    Linear momentum

    Kinetic energy

I initially thought it would be only kinetic energy as I believe, correct me if I am wrong, that linear momentum wont be conserved in this case because as the student jumps off, it is no longer a closed system as there is now added linear momentum. Please explain your answer. Thanks!

  • How do you divide e^x by 1+x?

So apparently to find the first four terms of a Maclauren series, I have to divide the numerator, which is e^x, by the denominator, which is 1+x. How do you divide them? When I divided them with the way I think im supposed to divide them, I get e^x+xe^x+x^2e^x+x^3e^x...

  • What happens to the formulas about gravity in the center of the earth?

Im talking about the formulas like Fg=GMMe/R^2, v=sqrt GMe/r and such. Most of theses formulas have r in the denominator and when we hit the center of the earth, these formulas don't exist anymore. So how are we supposed to do problems regarding gravity and the center of the earth.

  • Infinite series questions for calculus?

Which of the following statements are true?

    I. The limit of the nth term of a divergent sequence is always infinity.

II. Every bounded sequence is convergent.

III. If the limit of a series is equal to 0 then the series is convergent.

    I only

    II only

    III only

    None of these

    All of these

Determine which one of the following tests can be used to show that the harmonic series diverges.

    Geometric Series Test

    nth term test

    Telescopic Series Test

    Integral Test

    None of these

Im pretty sure the first answer is II only and the last answer is integral test. Please just help me out!

  • Physics questions regarding table and force?

A table is built of two legs, A and B, and a rod of mass-10 kg and length 5m. A small block of 2 kg is placed on the bridge 0,75 m from leg B. Both the rod and the blocks have constant densities(are uniform). You may assume that the legs are very narrow compared to the length of the rod. Find the force with which each leg supports the rod and the block

  • Why do we have a Martin Luther King Jr. day but not an Abraham Lincoln day?

Ok I understand we have presidents day where we get together to celebrate all the good things the presidents have done in the past but my point is, if it weren't for Abraham Lincoln, we wouldn't have a Martin Luther King Jr. which even though is true, many people don't realize that.

  • Are US Air Force soldiers weaker?

Ok so I have friends who are part of the army, navy and air force and the air force guy is always being picked on about how their training is softer and such. I just want to know if they actually have easier training then navy and army. I am not talking about the special units such as pjs, seals and rangers but Im talking about basic units. If you could compare pjs, seals and ranger though too that would be great.

  • Physics questionbased on mathematical formula?

An object of mass m=1.0 kg experiences a force of the following mathematical form-

F(t)=ke^(-ct) where k=6.0 N, and c=0.101/s. At time t=0, the object has a velocity of v=2.0m/s and is at the origin. Where is this object after 20 seconds?

  • How to solve final velocity without acceleration?

Ok so I have a 2.5 kg stone thrown upward with a velocity of 12 m/s. The stone takes 8 seconds to reach the ground. This is not on earth so g is unknown. Also it is not thrown from ground level but from a certain height above ground level so we cannot assume that the peak will take four seconds to reach. How would you solve for final velocity in this example?

So... yeah... why? I thought the U.S was all about separation of religion from government and equality and stuff so why don't churches pay taxes and why do I do -__-. • Sharp pain in the right of my chest when I breathe deeply. What is it?

I have this sharp pain on the left side of my right chest (or it feels around there). I only feel it when I breathe in all the way and exhale all the way. I can lay down but some random movements make it hurt more and I cant lie on my right side at all. I am 16, an athlete (I play about four hours of tennis per day) and I have fitness almost everyday as well. I don't know if I should see a doctor or just wait it out. It has happened to me before but like a two months ago. This was the first time it has happened to me during my workout and lasted this long ( about five hours already).
