  • Category for tournament entry fee deduction, where do they go?

Helping a relative with taxes on Turbo Tax. He s a pro golfer - yep his job. Not on the big tour, but that s how he now earns his living, tournaments on mini-tours, giving instruction, etc.

We re going through business deductions, and not sure what category tournament entry fees and practice round fees would go?

  • State of Michigan, is a private entity, such as a Home Owner's Association, allowed to run a license plate to find the owner?

As the title says, and if you could point to the proper statute one way or another, that would be most helpful. Thanks!

  • Temp solution to dipping sidewalk near front door steps until things thaw out?

The approach to my front door has 1 step. This step is dipping now by about 2-3", and the two segments of walkway are tilted which is causing this dip. Over the last snowfall/melt/refreeze, this has caused a pileup of water which of course turned into ice, that is about 2-3" thick.

So I need a temporary solution to this until things thaw out (I'm in SE Michigan), and the cement can be demolished and the whole thing fixed properly.

I was thinking of just putting some brick pavers in the area of the largest dip, or maybe even just a few sheets of plywood. Just to raise that area above where the water settles (I'll chop out the ice first). It just has to last until spring time, so 3 months max.

  • Is society doomed due to stupidity?

I really think society will collapse upon itself in the next 50 years, perhaps sooner. The stupidity around me is never ending. Even reading some of the questions on Yahoo Answers is a glimpse into that end. I really wonder how some people survive on a day to day basis not being able to solve the most simple problems at hand. The movie "Idiocracy", while tongue-in-cheek, is probably more accurate than most would believe. What do you think?

  • Tax implications of Series EE Savings Bonds?

My mom bought several Series EE savings bonds in the 1980s worth about $25,000 today, and I'm considering cashing them out due to the likelihood of capital gains tax rate increasing at the end of the year, and would like to know about the tax implications of the Series EE.

The bonds were purchased by her, but have *both of our names on them*. Essentially they were a gift to me.

Who pays the taxes on this?

  • Bank of America and Fannie Mae Address Change?

I am at a loss as to what to do next. Currently my mortgage is at Bank of America, and I decided in FEBRUARY to refinance. I wanted out of BofA, and started a refi with a buddy who works at Wells Fargo. I was told by him that there was a problem that my mortgage info didn't include the Unit # of my Site Condo, and that I needed to contact BofA to get it updated with their records and Fannie Mae (it's a Harp loan).

So it took 6 weeks and a number of phone calls to get BofA to add "Unit 116" to their records, but Fannie Mae still hasn't updated theirs. As far as I know, BofA has dropped the ball in reporting the address change to Fannie, but dozens of phone calls to their customer service number, and now the Office of the President has gotten me nowhere. The reps at the Office of the President NEVER call me back.

All I'm trying to do is get "Unit 116" added to the legal address at Fannie Mae! I've also contact Fannie and was told that the mortgage lender was the one who had to contact them to update the address. I told Fannie that BofA with either incapable or unwilling to do this, and was essentially told that that's how the process goes. I asked what am I supposed to do if they won't do it, and received no answer.

I have even file a complaint with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, but I'm at a loss as where to go next. Is it time to get a lawyer?

  • Why do people play a game with such bad odds like the lottery?

I'm certainly not anti-gambling, but EVERY other form of gambling out there has better odds than the lottery. WAAAY better odds. If a casino was set up with the same odds as the state lottery, they'd be shut down for fraud.

So what do people get out of it? I mean, it's can't be the money because people would play other games in which they're more likely to win. But it can't be the "action" either, can it? How is drawing random numbers exciting? At least with slots you get to see spinning wheels.

  • How to track down an intermittent short?

I have a 1986 Corvette, 195k miles. Runs great. Recently I've had problems with blowing the 15A fuse that carries the load for the turn signal and backup lights. Sometimes I can go a month or two with no problems, other times I'll blow two fuses in a week.

What's the best way to track down this intermittent short that I have?

  • '86 Corvette, no spark condition. What to check?

Car has run fine for 3 years. Got up one morning and it wouldn't start. I replaced cap, rotor, plugs (wires are only 6 mo. old), no go. Bought a spark plug tester and I'm not getting spark.

Replaced the ignition coil. Still no spark. Took the cap off again, and took out the ignition control module and the guy at Autozone ran it through their tester about 10 times and it passed every time.

I have 13.2 V at the batt term on the distributor cap... I'm at a loss what else to check. Help!
