  • How do freelancers measure immeasurable work? How much money to take?

Hello, guys. I am a freelancer, yet it seems soon I'll get a tricky job. I will be a consulant-translator-outsource manager for one company, job duties are internet researches, translations, looking for people and outsourcing work, quality control, different consultations(time, volume and such are also vague) and etc. Plus some additional work to come. Okay, translation is easy, but researches, outsourcing, consultations? No idea how long it will take for me to finish each task like that and how much I should demand for it.

If anyone has ideas how to structure all of it and proceed with payment, I'll be immeasurably grateful

  • Mandarin pronunciation help needed.?

Hello everyone. Would be very grateful if somebody explains me the difference between “ng” and “n” in Chinese language.

I know that sometimes it changes or adds a vowel, but what about the “ng” sound itself? Is it the same as English “ng”? Can’t hear the difference at all…

  • Question about inflation?

Hello. I cannot understand one thing so would be grateful if someone explained it to me. The question about inflation. Or rather mechanics of it. Example: we have a government. It silently dumps a lot of money into its economy. On the other side, we have companies, shopkeeper and etc. starting to push their prices to the sky.

So my question: how do those companies and others understand that time to start rising prices has come if no info was given from the government? What factors make them do it? Increased number of customers or what?

  • Need help with a follow up?

Hello. One week ago, I had a job interview with a company from abroad. They found my resume and offered me an interesting position in which I have no experience. I also think I am underqualified for it. In addition, they asked me in the end of the interview if I come to their country any time soon. I think they have some interest but doubt that I am perfect fit for the position.

So I forgot to ask when to expect the answer so now I think about sending a follow up. And I have an idea to offer them to re-negotiate the terms to make it a bit better for them. I want to show them my interest and etc, but wonder if it is okay since I don’t want to look desperate.

PS: They know I have a job right now.

I'd like to hear your ideas.

  • Need help with marketing strategies?

    Hello everyone.

Recently I have become an entrepreneur. Now I am straggling with advertisement.

I am a dispatcher, I know people who can do some job and look for people who want the job to be done. My prices are middle tier comparing to the local market, sometimes cheaper. When it comes to advertisement I usually use bulletin boards to post my ads. The problem is there are many other similar ads including some with the really low prices. So if I were a customer I would just check out the cheapest one. Especially since I see sometimes those “cheap price” ads right near mine.

I asked other dispatchers about their marketing strategies and found out that they are basically spammers. They make a huge amount of free and paid ads sometimes even using VPN connections, different names and telephone numbers.

While I think what if it works then it is good yet I believe there has to be other smarter ways to do business. So I need an advice. Are there other ways to make a customer pick my services instead of others? How to beat the cheap ones? Are spamming or lowering prices the only ways?

Would be grateful for any advice or recommendation of books you found related to the topic and very informative.

  • Atheists and Muslims relationshps?

    Hello, everyone.

I'm stuck and hope atheists will give an advice.

I have a Muslim friend. I helped him, he helped me, we spent a lot of time doing some funny things together. Now we live in different countries but once I went to visit him abroad.

He knows that I'm an atheist and never really tried to convert me although sometimes he asked me to rethink about my attitude towards religion and this world.

He is really serious about Islam, always prays, doesn't drink alcohol or eat pigs, so on. He follows everything that is said to be good for Muslims.

Recently he told me about one event with his wife. we are not friends with her but not complete strangers. So I replied that "his wife's name" is a really nice and beautiful lady. To him. Not to her. Via online chat and got a reply later, that because I'm a stranger(what?) to his family(and everyone else is because doesn't belong to their families) and should call her Mrs. Name-of-his-wife. He feels better that way. And I just wanted to tell him that he is a really lucky guy who found a really great girl for him so I was really confused. Later a Muslim community said he is right bc such words lead to sins. Yeah, right...

I've read a bit about Islam after that and found a part which says Muslims cannot be friends with non-believers, but can be nice to them in order to keep non-aggressive environment and convert them afterwards. I was like WTF?!?

So.... Does anyone have good Muslim friends and I'm oversensitive? Or is it a dead end?

  • I want to tell a girl that I like her.?

Greetings! The situation is... I'm 25, she is 23, my colleague from work and yesterday I said her that I want pizza to eat and asked if she is going to accompany me or not. She agreed.

We went there and spoke for about 3 hours after that I took her to the entrance of her house and left. She looked at me somehow strange at the end.

Mostly no touching, no kissing, nothing. And I have a feeling that she is quite friendly with me but there is some distance. Or was it my imagination?

Anyway I'm quite clumsy about social stuff and courting(only autists are worse than me I guess) so today I decided to make it easier for her. And me.

I'm going to tell her what I think, that I like her and after that ask her to go somewhere like a cinema or whatever. If yes then fine if no then ok, I guess I will survive.

So that is the plan. From my point of view it is good.

What about reality? Is it so good go straight? Would a girl be ok with such a narrow method? Anything I should be careful about?

I would be grateful for any advice.

  • Emotions, SPD and work interview?

    Hello, everyone.

Firstly, there is one thing about me. Few years ago one doctor kindly gave me SPD diagnose. I don't care if it's true or not, but usually I don't show emotions in front of others.

Now the problem. Recently I had an interview for getting a job. Well... I completely forgot about preforming emotions and felt somehow that HR girl was a bit... confused that I didn't "respond" to her... emotionally. She seemed awkward. It was funny, but I didn't get the job. That wasn't funny :D

So what kind of emotions should I preform in order to make my chances of getting a job higher? Should I be like a "mirror"? Or smile? Or what?

  • Are people interested in others?

    Hello!

There is one thing that bothers me.

Some time ago I've read a book about communication with others and it said something like "ask people about themselves and they will be happy to chat with you". Well since that I applied this advice and it seems people do like to speak with me. Because... I ask many questions.

And today I had a typical situation. Today I spent about 2 hours with my... err... friend I guess. We had one common cause and during solving it we had a conversation. And... 95% of time she was speaking about her problems, life, plans and etc. 5% of time I was answering her questions... about that common cause. So it seems for me people aren't interested in others... sometimes at all.

When people do ask something it's usually some primitive stuff like "what are you doing","how do you do" and etc.

So... I know many just MAAANY things about people around me. Usually you don't even need to torture them to get some private information. And they know only some general stuff about me and are okay with it. Of course, I don't like to speak much about my life and etc. But I would be satisfied if she or some other with whom I speak ask me sometimes about my thoughts at least few questions....

Is it a common situation? Or maybe I have some problems with my life/personality that people aren't really interested in me. However I don't think that my life is much boring than theirs...

  • Some questions about work?

Hello everyone. I'd like to ask something about work in Japan.

I'm going to Japan soon with a businessman's visa for 3 month and I want to stay and work there. So I'm planning to find a work and ask my employer to make a one year visa for me.

    But there are some problems.

    1. I don't know how to find a work. I'm thinking about searching with the Internet some firms which may demand people with my skills and after arriving I'll go there with my resume. Also I'm trying to ask my Japanese friends if they know something about it. If there is a different yet better way, I'd like to know it.

    2. I'm not allowed to work there with my businessman's visa. What should I do? Should I work illegally and after some time ask my employer about a new visa? Should I ask my employer to change my visa right after hiring me? Any ideas?

I'll be glad to hear any advice.
