  • Wheel Adapters on my SUV?

Are adding 2" wheel adapters a strain on a vehicles suspension? I have heard different opinions about wheel spacers and the inherent dangers. I have also heard how wheel adapters are safer.

Is there an increase amount of strain placed on the suspension by the use of wheel spacers/adapters? I would like to think that the vehicle is strong enough to handle the offset. Especially if it was designed from the factory as an off-road vehicle.

I have seen some obscene examples with the use of extreme offset wheels with and without the use of spacers/adapters. Opinions? How is this different from my application?

What about the use of hardened aluminum adapters like the ones on eBay. Good?

My truck does not see aggressive off-road use. Just a lot of winter snow, mud during the hunting season and trails in the SoCal deserts. But it is used primarily as a family car.

But I have to admit that they do make the truck much more attractive. No haters...please!

    Thanks!

  • Installing Pergo Flooring Question?

I am installing Pergo in a room in the garage. The floor of the garage is concrete but I built a subfloor with plywood on top of the joists. Do I still need to lay a plastic vapor barrier? I was told that since I build a floor above the cement I would not need to install the plastic sheeting?

It is a 1922 SF Bay Area home. The garage is very dry. Above ground and not susceptable to drainage from the outside.

    Thanks!

  • Refinance current home and applying for a new home loan?

My girlfriend currently owns a home which she is trying to refinance - at the same time, she is looking for a new home and wants to apply for a new home loan. But it's taking a long time for the refi to close (can't lock the rate/terms she wants) and she wants to go ahead and apply for the new home loan. Her current mortgage broker won't do both as they are not supposed to refi her current home if they know she is going to buy another primary residence. She is thinking about going to another broker for the new home loan. If she gets the new home loan approved and then the rates for the refi drop - can she still refi her current home- what are the implications and consequences?

  • If on Social Security can one go back to work and defer SSI?

My mother in law is turning 62. She is unsure if she wants to collect now or at 65 and collect $500 more. We worked the numbers and the break even age would be around 72 years old.

But if she were to collect now at 62 could she change her mind and stop collecting if she were to find another job. Then start to collect at 65?

    Thanks

  • Foreclosure eminent. Here is the situation... How bad?

    Hello,

I have a coworker that bought a house. He has two loans with two different banks. It looks like it will be going into foreclosure as he lost his job and hasnt paid on the loans for almost 9 months. The bank recently indicated that there was going to be a foreclosure sale date for the first load in a couple of weeks.

What does that mean? There is still the second loan.

Will it ruin his credit? From the various things that I have read the answer seems to be a "big fat" yes!

Will the banks go after him for the balance of the money? How will they make him pay?

Is there a possibility that the bank will take the house and leave him alone?

I suppose that he will not be able to buy a house or car or get a decent credit card ever again. True?

His friends are still living there yet he has moved out many months ago. I guess they need to pack up right away. Before the foreclosure sale date? Anything they need to be concerned about other then getting the heck out?

  • Drying firewood for my fireplace.?

    Hello,

The weather is getting chilly here in SF so its time to fireup the fireplace. I have noticed that the wood I use sizzles alot. My guess is that it has a decent amount of moisture. I can usually get the fire started but then it just fizzles out after about 10 minutes.

Can I dry the firewood in my oven? What temperature? 200 degrees? Will this help? I bought the wood from my local supermarket.

Thanks for the help. My gal will appreciate it. So will I!
