Is it legal or illegal to use the term "Dr." as a title, without the degree?
Is it legal to use the title "Mrs." if you are a man? "Mr." if you are a woman? "Dr." if you have neither a Ph.D. nor a medical license?
This is not an ethics question. I am looking specifically to find out if there are legal issues here. For example, it is illegal to say you are a lawyer, if you are not one. I therefore assume it IS illegal to put the word "lawyer" or "attorney at law" on your business card, if you are not a lawyer. I can look up laws that define the usage of certain words, like "lawyer" or "psychologist" and these laws regulate the use of those terms.
The Supreme Court has ruled in the Stolen Valor Act, that it is not generally illegal to lie. Of course, certain lies are still punishable by law if they constitute fraud. If someone has a job, and when they applied for the job they asserted that they had a college degree that they do not have, the employer can legally fire them for cause.
But is it legal or illegal to use the title "Dr." on something where fraud is not the issue? For example, clicking "Dr." as one's title on order form, when purchasing a new trash can online, where no capabilities or education is specifically implied.
9 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoWhat is the law regarding putting "Dr." before your name?
When I fill out forms online, the often ask for a "title." I do not want to reveal if I am male or female. It seems to me that using "Dr." is the only completely non-sex-determined, standard title. (I'm not going for Hon. or Rev., here.)
Are there any laws about this? I'm not representing myself as some kind of expert in anything, just writing to my congressional representative, or whatnot.
Please don't offer just opinions, I have read a bunch on this. What I cannot seem to find online, is if there are any laws about putting "Dr." before your name.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics9 years agoWhat is the difference between bringing a law suit and then settling vs. hush money?
What is the difference? If you bring a law suit to a company about something they did wrong, and they respond that they want to settle for money and an agreement to not divulge, how is that different from just going to the company, telling them you plan on bringing a suit, at which point they offer you hush money?
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics10 years agoWhat do you do on the "Challenge" spot in the game "Imaginiff"?
I know two people are supposed to "match" but I don't know how it works exactly. I'll pick best answer right away if someone quotes the rules, or posts a link to the rules of Imaginiff. (By Buffalo...and yes, I've searched the Internet for this)
4 AnswersBoard Games1 decade agoWhat do you think about Fire the Grid, July 17?
One hour of positive prayer/meditation to light up a "grid" that surrounds the Earth.
If you've heard of it, what do you think of it?
Supposed to be July 17, at 11:11 GMT, for an hour.
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCharcoal thong to stop bad odor?
OK, so it is late, and I'm insomniac, and my spouse is gassy and smelly.
What d'y'all think about a product that is a charcoal thong? You know, underwear. Something that goes there, that filters what comes out? Most of the thong would be normal material, but the part that threads through would be a filter.
Yah, yah, I'll probably regret posting this in the morning. But, eeeesh, even the dog backed off away from the smell.
10 AnswersFashion & Accessories1 decade agoHow do I stop my nose from itching (allergies)?
I'm losing my mind. I have allergies. Take Allegra. Throw some Benadryl on top of it. Nothing is stopping my nose from itching.
It has been itching for a few days (maybe a week and a half) and I keep rubbing. Now it is all red, the bone/cartilage underneath my nose actually hurts, so it is itchy, looks bad, and scratching makes it all hurt more.
WHAT DO I DO???
The allergy meds have kicked out the sneezing and coughing, and I don't have too much of a runny nose, just this ITCH.
3 AnswersAllergies1 decade agoWhat are the political motivations to denying the human component of Global Climate Change?
I asked a more generic question earlier, and got some terrific answers as to why most people who deny Global Warming do so. Interesting, and lots to think about. (See http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200706... for those answers.)
But I realized that the answers didn't discuss a couple of aspects. Therefore, here is one about the political motivation.
I realize that President Bush is an oil man, and he and his people might have financial reasons to want to maintain an oil economy, but that just doesn't seem enough to explain to me non-oil politicians being against trying to save humanity from extreme climate change problems.
My question is clear: I want to understand the political motivation to keep denying the human need to work on slowing Global Warming. Please don't lecture me on why my premise is wrong. If you believe my premise is wrong, but have a good explanation for the political motivation, describe the politics-don't flame me for my position.
16 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoIs it just denial, or is there some other reason people think Global Climate Change is a hoax?
Honestly, I am frustrated, surprised, and confused about why so many people refuse to recognize Global Climate Change (also called global warming) as a serious problem. I can barely understand why not all people are convinced that it has been made significantly worse by humans, but really don't get why anyone thinks humans are *incapable* of slowing it down.
No one who has seen the skies above smoggy cities has any problem noticing that we have created smog. And obviously, if we can create it, we humans can stop creating it!
The science showing that the cycles of global warming and cooling have never happened this fast are so clear--how can people say that this is "normal" when all the evidence shows that it is NOT normal at all.
Will the level of disaster that befalls our planet in order to prove this to the nay-sayers be so bad that by then, we probably won't be able to do anything to slow it down?
Why do some people insist on arguing total human inability to fix this problem?
19 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoHistorically, Holland fought the effects of Global Warming there with sea walls, etc. What are they doing now?
My friend was in Holland (The Netherlands) about ten years ago, and said they were already actively working against the effects of Global Climate Change/Global Warming back then. They were building their sea walls and dikes up much higher, and also finding area for water flow in rivers and flood plains to exist safely.
But now it is ten years later, and we know things have gotten worse, faster, and I am wondering what they are doing about it now.
What are they working on? Technology? Changing housing patterns? Are there people who are emigrating away from that country? What is the latest?
8 AnswersGlobal Warming1 decade agoDo you enjoy catching the slight scent of White Shoulders perfume on a woman, in public?
I really want to know if more people don't, or more people do enjoy the scent of White Shoulders. But I want hard evidence. Please do not answer, "I think most people..."
"Best Answer" will go to whoever collects the actual opinions of a few people, and posts their results. Do people like some perfume, but not White Shoulders? No perfume? Like some, and that one? Especially like White Shoulders?
I do not want responses about issues I am not asking about. Please do not talk about how much perfume a woman should wear. Assume we are talking about a very mild application, such that you couldn't smell it at all more than two feet away. And I don't want to hear about allergies, either. One of the reasons for asking about White Shoulders is because it seems to be one of the least allergenic perfumes. For those who aren't familiar, it is considered a classic floral, and includes gardenia, lilac, amber, oakmoss, and jasmine in its scent.

6 AnswersOther - Environment1 decade agoDo adults appreciate women wearing perfume in public, or is that better for young people?
I don't think anyone likes to be blasted by someone wearing overpowering perfume. And a lot of people are allergic to many perfumes. But I am interested to know if adults (say, thirties and up) enjoy smelling perfume on someone (that they do or do not know, either) in public places. I am looking for factual answers, not conjecture. Either what you like, or what someone has specifically told you on this issue.
And if you do like perfume, what do you think about the scent "White Shoulders?"
5 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoI have two "best answers" but only one is showing. What happened? How do I fix that?
I just started answering questions, and I am happy to report that two of my answers got voted "best answers." However, the profile only shows ONE best answer. I didn't seem to get the points for the second one, nor does it show up on the percentages chart.
Anybody else have this problem? How do I fix it?
