Are you racist?
If you are why are you that way?
Or a bigot? I am not. I just want to know why people are.

A racist is a person who believes in the inherent superiority of one race over all others. In my experience there are very few people like that. Neo Nazis, the Klu Klux Klan, members of the Nation of Islam (NOI) and perhaps members of La Raza (the race..."for the race everything, for all others nothing") would be examples.
The word you most likely meant to use is "bigot." Bigots are not necessarily racists and are much more common.
...a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance
The term racist gets far too much use these days, usually by people who don't know what it means. I read a story in our local paper where a police dog was accused of being "racist" because it went after a black suspect.

No, I've lived and worked all over the world. I've seen enough to know there's good and bad in all people. I've been in an interracial marriage almost 30 years. Finally, I've got an open mind. If you think I'm wrong, convince me, I'll listen.

I do not believe that one race is superior to another. That being said, I do believe that different cultures promote different values. Having been in the Army and worked in health care for 18 years, I have meet people from all over the world. The group of cultures that have impressed me the most have been the Asian cultures. India, Japan, China; the individuals from these countries work extremely hard and place high demand on themselves and their children. You find multiple generations of professionals. You will often find husbands and wives who are doctors , engineers, lawyers and you can bet that they expect nothing less for their own children. I believe that Americans were once like this, Who knows maybe we will be again in the future.

I don't think I am. I have been told by my girlfriend, family and co workers that I am one of the biggest racist they've known.
I reply it's not racism, I hate everybody equally.
Why do they say I am, I think it's because I'll be honest in saying how I feel towards someone.
Why what have you heard?

No I'm not.
When did the word "racist" become slang for insisting on legal immigration?
This is the the immigration forum. If you want to discuss race, maybe the more relevant forum is the Culture one.

No, but a lot of blacks are racist against Hispanics where I live.
