Does anyone know about infants having spasms?

My friends' daughter is about 5 months old. The other night her arms spasmed. She doesn't lose consciousness or seem to be in any pain so it's not like a seizure.
They took her to a physician who wants to follow up with a neurologist.

Needless to say, they're both really concerned.

Does anyone know what the problem might be? Let me know.

Thanks.

There are many types of seizures so most likely from what you described she had a seizure. There's a very good possibility that she has epilepsy.

Seizures don't always cause a loss of consciousness or pain. They can be mild, moderate or severe - severe ones are called grand mal seizures.

The neurologist will check her over though and make the diagnosis.
