Humerous answers?

Should extremely humerous but unhelpful answers get thumbs downs? Assume there is no chance that they might mislead or endanger the person asking the questions.

I've answered a few questions with answers that I thought were very, very funny. I've gotten several thumbs downs and I don't think a single thumbs up. I've given thumbs ups to answers that made me laugh. So long as they don't tell the person asking the questions to do something dangerous, I think they improve the experience for everyone.

Am I just not funny? Or are there a lot of really serious people out there? Or am I wrong to think that people who entertain you deserve a thumbs up?

If you want to be humourous, you should place it on the right category and question.

If the question and/or category is like a serious-type or really needs some help, you should go with it and help the asker.

What they should get is reported and removed.

It's not that there's anything wrong with humor, but if you don't answer the question (for real), then you are violating the Guidelines.

You risk losing, not only your YA account, but your entire Yahoo account.

Uh, as for thumbs, there's no "should" or "shouldn't" about it. They are there for people to register agreement or disagreement with answers. Thumbs down don't hurt anyone in any way.

If you want a humor site, find another site. The purpose of THIS site is for people to get answers to their questions. Posting non-answers is wrong.

If you want to continue, then, either before or after, give a real answer.

Or phrase a real answer humorously.

If you're looking to entertain and be entertained, find an appropriate site.

There's a site like this, with NO guidelines at all:

http://www.dizzay.com

Go there, and stop ruining THIS site.

To answer humorously is OK, but the answer should also be appropriate ... that is, helpful and informative.

An answer that is posted just to get a laugh, but doesn't answer the question is likely to get thumbs-down or even reported.

Only certain areas of the site are for "entertainment" purposes and others are for serious replies to serious questions and humor is not needed nor wanted. And would be considered chatting.

One could argue why ANYONE would come to Yahoo for answers to serious health or legal issues instead of going to a professional immediately however.....

I do the same as you, and I try to answer with as much humor as I can muster. As long as a suggestion or joke isn't terribly, horribly offensive, misleading or rulebreaking, and it makes you laugh, you should just give the guy a thumbs up. An extra point for them, an extra click from you. No big deal, right?

As for people who give thumbs down to answers that aren't really progressive, well, I think they're taking it a little too seriously. :]
