Chosen "Best Answer" 3 years later?

I was just notified about it. What took so long?

Sometimes when questions go to voting there will be a tie. Lets say you had 3 votes and someone else had 3 votes. When that happens neither person can win best answer until the tie is broken, in this case it sounds like somebody just happened to come across the question and voted for your answer, therefore you won. It is pretty rare for that to happen after three years but it does happen.

The asker of the question did not choose the best answer and so it went to the public vote, it looks like there was a tie with the answers. It is not until someone who votes goes into the question and votes and breaks the tie that the best answer is chosen, and lucky for you it was your answer. There are a lot of questions that are years old and need voting on to resolve them.
There is a group of users on this site that do have a focus category and vote on questions that are years old, they are called the Tiebreakers and perhaps your question was in their focus category.

the question went into Vote, got stuck in Tiebreaker, than some user (most likely from the Tiebusters group, who deal with that type of stuff) voted for your answer, which gave your answer the most votes, therefore you got best Answer.
