I am 33 weeks pregnant, I took the 1 hour test @ 28 weeks and got a 135....I guess the cut off is 135. So the Dr is telling me it is at my discretion to take the 3 hour test or not.
I had a terrible time with the 1 hour test, I was sick and jittery for 2 days after drinking that sugary stuff, I am concerned as to how it will effect me for 3 hours. There hasn't been any signs of protein in my urine at all and I didn't have gestational diabetes with my 1st pregnancy.
I have been looking up info online and the guidelines seem to say that the 3 hours test is recommended if your levels are over 140. So I am really having a hard time deciding.
Any input is really appreciated.
Thank you

Being a Mom of six and having gestational diabetes. I can only offer a real life Mom answer for you and not a medical one. My first and second pregnancy went fine .During my 3rd pregnancy I was given the test and found out I had gestational diabetes. Of course I felt ill during and after the test. Though in my eyes it was worth it. I also was given the test during my next 3 pregnancies to screen me for any possibilities of having it again, which all came out with me not having it again. Again,in my eyes, well worth it for healthy babies. It would have broke my heart if anything I could have done and did not do ended up with one of my babies being sick. As with all Mother's and Mother's to be a healthy baby is what we all want. No matter the results you will know you did all you could to protect and love your baby. I would take the test time and time again.
I had gestational diabetes and my score on the 1 hour was 175 and when I took the 3 hour test I almost passed it. Meaning I passed 2 of the four with the fasting just being over by one point. So I was borderline but to be safe I was considered diabetic being pregnant. Anyways, if you don't want to take the three hour than I suggest you just start counting carbs. if you want to be on the safe side. What I mean is if you think you might have gestational diabetes but don't want the test to be sure than eat like you have it. I can tell you that I was allowed only 30 carbs for the morning meal, snack before lunch 15, lunch was 60, then another 15 carbs allowed for a snack, then dinner was 60, and a after dinner snack of up to 30. Sticking to this always kept my numbers in check. But everyone is different and some people require insulin shots with this when pregnant. So it might be a good thing for you to find out for sure. Because diabetes can cause your baby to grow to be to big and other complications I know you wouldn't want for your baby. So do the three hour for your baby if you are that concerned.
I had to take the 1 hour and the 3 hour glucose test. My first test came out negative (I failed by 1 point!!!). When I came back to take my 3 hour, it was negative. I don't think they should call it a 3 hour since I got poked 4 times, not 3 and they had me stay there for more than 4 hours! :(
