How do you feel about violence at concerts?

And I don't mean fighting cause pretty much everyone hates that and rightfully so. I mean moshing and crowdsurfing. I was having a conversation with my Metalhead friend yesterday and he said that basically, Hardcore shows are too full of senseless violence. He told me that he thinks crowdsurfing is fine but he called walking on the crowd or even moving yourself on the crowd is being a "douchey concert goer". What are your general feelings about concerts when it comes to this?

Oh and, this was the video that started the conversation (The music starts around 2:00)

BQ: What's the most violent show you've ever been to?

I think there should be designated areas for these things out of respect for the paying fans who just want to enjoy the show without being stepped on,shoved, laid on,rolled over or otherwise annoyed. I would be in the calm section. Never was much of a mosher.

BQ No violent ones really, but it did get a little out of hand at a Quiet Riot concert once when some drunk fans barfed and ppl were slipping in it falling on their @sses. lol

A couple of bruises, scrapes, etc are all part of the fun, but when it gets past that and ventures into the area of broken bones- unnecessary. Moshing- perfectly okay and fun, except for a couple idiots, but it's inevitable, so nevermind that. I don't participate in it- then again I weigh about 100 lbs, so that should be a no-brainer. Crowdsurfing. Also fine; like moshing, I believe it's part of the experience, but I think there should be an unwritten rule that people over 200 lbs cannot crowdsurf. I've had one of those guys fall on me and it hurt.
I personally am fine with all these things, and even encourage it, just as no one gets seriously hurt. I've heard of knifefights in the pits and that seems horrifying. Most of the time, they just escalate the energy, excitement of the concert, and all in all, I'd rather have them there than not.
BQ: My most violent is really not violent at all...

Honestly , i think it is all in good fun for the most part. That is why I go in , and my energy levels are through the roof I need to releive it somehow... what better way to do it then with 100+ dudes. With that said , there are some dumbf*cks out there that want to intentionally hurt people ( throwing fists, kicks etc.. ). I don't take none of that **** , if they want to throw down I will too.

BQ: HMM...I was at a Necrophagist concert a couple of years ago , and "Stillborn one" came on so I gots to be in the pit or in front - As I was going through the pit , this guy stabbed this kid ( he must have been 16? ) in his arm with I beleive was scissors. Other then fights that is probably the most violent one.

The whole entire genre of metal is mostly rebellious or violent in its context. It's the reason why we listen to it. However, some people who do the mosh pits and crowd walkings need to get their acts together. For god's sake, I've seen my cousin get injured because he got tackled into a mosh pit. Its a good thing to embrace the music, but to that point, its kinda stupid. I don't really go to concerts much.

It's perfectly fine.

If you're going to a hardcore show and expect anything less you're fooling yourself. If your friend views it as "senseless violence" I'd question whether he understands what hardcore mentality really means. If you can't handle it, stay away. Though I love the energy, I don't go to violent shows in general, I'm a small girl and am afraid of getting tossed around.
