How much are we suppose to tolerate?

I am an aide and sub school driver who transports iep students to Crossroads every day.  One student has harrassed others, tried to start fights, [been smacked by one other], threatened to scratch a drivers car, got one aide fired after telling school that she gave him a knife [confessed later he lied about her], brought firecracker on bus to throw at me, and few days later he had a screwdriver with knife point on other end.  We complain about this student but are told he's iep and can't do much with him.  [Yes, we confiscate the items.] Right now, he's back from 3rd day off bus.  What happens after he reaches 10th day off?  What if he actually hurts someone.  I have 2 aides on this route and they are as frustrated as I am.  Is it right to take him to County Sheriffs office when he has dangerous items that can hurt others or cause bus accident?  In 17 yrs., this is the "makes we want to quit" mood!

You need to file an official complaint with the police department. You also seem to have enough evidence and situations where you can file charges against this student. Students must follow the law regardless of IEP. Report this to the authorities and to your school district. Go to the school board if needed. DOCUMENT all of your facts.

This child poses a real danger to you and the other students.

  It made me upset too, while reading your question. I work with K-6 in an after school program.
If I was in a situation where I felt physically threatened(like a knife/screwdriver pointed at me) and it happened more than once, and management/supervisors hadn't done anything to remedy it, I would feel okay about calling the police. You have to take care of yourself and of course the other kids with you as well. If you call the police enough times (or drive to the Sheriff's office enough times) action will need to be taken by the police, the school and that student's parents.
