Download updates during laptop "sleep" or "hibernate"?

My new laptop "goes to sleep" after a few minutes of inactivity, then some time later drops into hibernate mode. Question: can automatic updates for Windows, the security suite, Adobe, etc. be received during "sleep" or "hibernate?" Or must the laptop be fully "awake"?

If the laptop has to be up and running to get an update, what techniques are there to ensure it's awake at those unknown times when an update is received?

Agree go to power options and disable at idle the pc sleeps, the only way to download or install ant program or updates the laptop must be fully awake , i don't use this function sleep or hibernate causes to many errors just shut it down when done.

The system (though not the screen) has to be running to install an update. It could be in a low-power mode with the disks spun down and only the CPU and NIC active.

There are BIOS settings to "wake on LAN" or wake at specific times, but I've never tried using them, and I do not believe anyone uses them for antivirus updates.

As far as I know, software updates are not pushed out to computers but rather computers are set to poll a server at regular intervals and check for updates, which they can only do when awake. However, scheduled events that were supposed to happen during a sleep time can be performed immediately on boot, so that no updates are missed.

The laptop must be fully awake for it to receive updates of any kind, but since the update times are unknown, there is no way to create a schedule. My best advice is to manually check for updates in commonly updated applications on a weekly basis so that you ensure that you're always getting needed updates.

hibernation means everything is off except the BIOS
so there aint nothing gonna be happening while thats the case.
sleep, means all the peripherals are off like the disk the screen
the lan card the wireless card the keyboard the mouse etc
etc, so there aint much gonna happen then either.
however if a download has started, then devices cant go to sleep
so in that case the pc will keep downloading.
and the only thing to sleep would be the screen

your laptop should be open. It will not update in sleep or hibernate mode.
