Download updates during laptop "sleep" or "hibernate"?

Agree go to power options and disable at idle the pc sleeps, the only way to download or install ant program or updates the laptop must be fully awake , i don't use this function sleep or hibernate causes to many errors just shut it down when done.

The system (though not the screen) has to be running to install an update. It could be in a low-power mode with the disks spun down and only the CPU and NIC active.

There are BIOS settings to "wake on LAN" or wake at specific times, but I've never tried using them, and I do not believe anyone uses them for antivirus updates.

The laptop must be fully awake for it to receive updates of any kind, but since the update times are unknown, there is no way to create a schedule. My best advice is to manually check for updates in commonly updated applications on a weekly basis so that you ensure that you're always getting needed updates.
