What can be wrong with my truck? The oil stick measured oil level as too high but it is not.?

was out today and check engine went off--blinking big time. Got home and later (once it cooled off) checked the oil stick and it was way to the top of it--oil measured too high but it is not. I have always taken care of my truck so there is no way I would overfill it with motor oil. What could have gone wrong or what is wrong with it?

it is an awesome Ford Sport Trak..6 cylinders and it has never had problems...I take good care of it--my truck. Oil changes every 3 months and good gas on it. Looks lifeless out there. ,

GREAT ANSWERS. no cracked head, no oil spills, no bubbles, nothing. I went to shop and told needed new spark plug wires--one was torn by hitting manifold. Repair it and it sounds like a purring lioness lol. Took it out and it gave me a smooth ride. Still not sure of the overfill but it got better. I just hope it does not break down in mid traffic. Thanks you all for the answers.

Check the oil filer cap if there is white sludge you have coolant in the oil via the head ,head gasket if not have the oil sample but my best diagnosis is fuel My guess your truck is a diesel probably cracked head or injector "o"rings

The blinking engine light signals mutiple misfires and if cylinders aren't firing the gas that is unburnt drops passed the pistons and into the crankcase.
Check for gasoline smell on your dipstick, and figure out why it's misfiring.

Reckon maybe something else (such as water or fuel) got in there raising the level?

Check and see if you are getting air bubbles in your antifreeze holder for the radiator (with engine running). Cracked head casket will put antifreeze into your oil (crankcase). You could have gas (diesel) in your crankcase.
