My car has been flooded and now makes strange sounds, the oil level is well above the "high" mark on the stick?

is it safe to drive the car to a mechanic (about 10 miles) or do i need to tow it?

Could the car make noises JUST BECAUSE there is water in the oil, or JUST BECAUSE the oil level is too high?

No. Do not even start the engine with the oil level showing high. You should drain the oil, change the filter and refill to the proper level before attempting to start it.

If you do not know how to do this, I would suggest you have it towed to a shop to avoid engine damage.

that small of an amount should not cause a problem. if you are driving a ford, i would be less concerned. the dipstick has been incorrectly stamped since 1983, unless it had an import engine. you are only about a quart over full i think. if you are that concerned drain out the excess. if the oil level is overfull past a point, you can blow a main seal or do damage of that nature. i have how ever seen cars drive into the shop sop far over full that it was just funny(try filling your oil twice and this still would not compare.) and they still had no problem.

Do not start the car! You have water in the oil and that can cause severe engine damage, have it towed or change the oil yourself drive for at least an hour and change oil and filter again.

It is NOT safe to drive or even start. You have probably done significant damage by running it. Most times a car is flooded it is usually written off by the insurance company.

If their is water in the engine oil then its probably water in the transmission, drive axles, etc. if the water reached dashboard level the cars a total loss. From an insurance co standpoint.

Please be cautious for any spark (electric) will cause an explosion if gas is in any other mechanical parts. Do not drive or start car. Call a toll service and have your mechanic inspect the damage. It may be covered with your insurance or at least they may give you a loan car until your car is fixed. Good luck and be careful.
