What do you think of hyphenated names?

Do you give them a separate middle? Like Mary-Kate does Kate count as the middle name? Would you use K as a middle initial or is it all one name?

I like hyphenated names, I think it can be cute. And yes I would give them a separate middle name as to me when it’s a hyphenated it’s 2 first names and so would not count as a middle name or middle initial.

I have friends who are twins who’s names are Lily-Amber Marie and Lori-Amber Marie and they like the hyphenated part but don’t like that they both have the same second first name and same middle name. Their mother’s name is Amber Marie and thought it would be cute if they both had her first and middle name in their names.

I detest the use of a hyphen. I'd rather have them smushed like MaryKate. If you use a hyphen then you can add another name as a middle so if it were Mary-Kate Ashley then Ashley would be the middle name.

I think they're okay as long as they're not too crazy, and generally the people that I know the second name is just their middle name, like I know a Mary Ann and a Leigh Ann, both of their middle names are Ann. Full names Mary Ann Johnson or Leigh Ann Smith.

I think Mary-Kate can work as a first name, but I think it looks a little nicer if there is a space between the names like this: Mary Kate. Or the name could be put together like MaryKate or Marykate. I prefer Mary Kate, though; I think it looks nicer.
I love the name Mary Kate p, by the way!

My 21 year old sister in law is Mary Katherine (we call her Mary Kate).

I would do: First- Mary Middle- Kate
